Party List! 2011 Golden Globes Party List

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

We often get a lot of flack when we post parties ahead of time … it’s our favorite thing to do but it causes a lot of PR firms, celebrity wranglers and other friends of ours here at the Truffle to get 500 extra calls checking to see if there is space left on their lists. We are always hesitant to do it, however, since our good friend Matt Donnelly – reporter extraordinaire, went and popped the cherry this morning on the L.A. Times with a full blown roster of fetes for the Golden Globes weekend (nice Matt, lol)  - we decided we could go ahead and do our usual party list as well.

We are most excited for the Access Hollywood Gift Lounge at the Sofitel tomorrow but other good parties include: In-Style Beauty Lounge, BAFTA‘s usual tea party and HBO‘s luxury lounge – all at the Four Seasons (this a step in the right direction for BAFTA who has always done their parties at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in the past which is kinda, eh. #renovateme). Weinstein‘s party is at Bar 210 (#RIPtradervics) in the Bev Hilton and the In Style/Warner Brothers Viewing Party, HBO’s after party, Fox and the NBC/Universal party are also in the hotel. The actual awards are held here in the hotel as well from 5pm to 8pm so these parties are super convenient. Other parties from Matt’s list include Paramount, W Magazine (on Friday at Chateau produced by Cara events hosted by W editor Stefano Tonchi) party and Art of Elysium / Vogue party (on Saturday).

Also of note, the Critic’s Choice Awards which is held tonight at the Palladium (and airs tonight as well) will have their party at Siren Studios afterwards. *Please check out our lists from Sundance, Emmys, Oscars, MTV Movie Awards, and MTV Video Awards from 2010 by clicking on Awards Season. Black Swan

Out Little Truffle reports are IN from around the World and around Los Angeles …

Thursday, November 11, 2010:

Thursdays are always the busiest nights in Los Angeles! Last night in Hollywood, the premiere of Black Swan closed the AFI film festival at the Grauman’s Chinese and the after party across the street at the Roosevelt and the after-after party at Beachers Madhouse. As expected -cast members Mila Kunis (friend of the Truffle), Natalie Portman, Winona RyderVincent Cassel (obsessed!!) and Barbara Hershey turned up along with director Darren Aronofsky and studio execs from Fox, Tom Rothman and Nancy Utley and producer Mike Medavoy with wife Irena Medavoy (LA native!).

Other interesting attendees?? Rodarte designers Kate & Laura Mulleavy (Natalie Portman LOVES Rodarte), Sylvester Stallone, Dita Von Teese, Heidi Klum and Peter Fonda.

Seven (jeans) knows how to party. The jeans maker had two back to back parties to celebrate their 10 year Anniversary - first with Vanity Fair (Tuesday night) and then with Vogue Thursday night. Though not all mankind were invited, a cool thing about the Vogue dinner party was an installation set up in the home in Beverly Hills themed for the 7 senses … and you thought there were only 5!

Over at the Santa Monica airportSanrio held a VIP night to kick off their 9 day exhibit and carnival at the Barker Hanger.  The company has invited popular artists from around the world to collaborate in two standout art exhibitions: Small Gift Los Angeles and Small Gift Miami, during Art Basel. Small Gift Los Angeles is a 10 day carnival-style event open to the public Friday, November 12 – Sunday, November 21 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. Small Gift Miami is the East Coast anchor event and will take place December 2 – 5, during Art Basel.

We love offspring! Sam Branson was in L.A. with his dad Richard Branson, and grandmother Eve Branson, for the family’s annual Rock The Kasbah gala.

The Los Angeles Opera often grabs a tenor or two and meets us half from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for a little performance. Thursday, they teamed up with Stuart Weitzman on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills to put on a mini opera behind the store in the Rodeo Collection under the stars.

Earlier in the day, Neiman Marcus held a tea party for Ken Downing, a fashion week front row regular and fashion director for Neiman Marcus.

Down Burton Way at the SLS,  Three Day Rule founders Talia Goldstein (nee Berman) and Valerie Brennan are giving Patty (Millionaire Matchmaker) and Steve (Tough Love) a run for their money with their monthly match-making parties. The SLS was packed with well dressed singles looking to mingle.

Joaquin Phoenix, Luis Barajas, Amanda Demme at the Flaunt party at Chateau Marmont

Up at the Chateau Marmont, Flaunt Magazine. had a party – we noticed Joaquin Phoenix, Rain Phoenix, Flaunt founder Luis Barajas, friend of the Phoenix’s Amanda Demme and David Spade.

Elle magazine hosted a book launch for “ELLEments Of Personal Style” in Santa Monica – Daisy O’dell has the story on that!

And speaking of Rain Phoenix – she was performing at the REVOLVEclothing.com re-launch party (at Revolve on Melrose). Harley Viera Newton (LA Native) DJed. Also in the house was Lauren Bush.

BAMBI trophy winner Orlando Bloom attended the 2010 BAMBI Awards wearing Chopard’s Grand Prix de Monaco Historique watch.

And now for something a little different … the 2010 Bambi Awards were held in Germany on Thursday. This is the coolest awards show you’ve never heard of! And likely to have the best dressed attendee list too! Named after Bambi (yes, the deer) these awards honor media and TV influencers. You know it’s cool when Beth Ditto, SJP, Orlando Bloom and Karl Lagerfeld are the headliners! Another need-to-know fact is that the actual award itself, shape of BAMBI the deer, is manufactured by Chopard!! It doesnt get much more chic! See the winners.

Wednesday, November 10, 2010:

The biggest thing on our radar this eve was the Harry Potter premiere in London. The new Harry Potter movie will be in theaters nationwide this November 19th and you can buy advance tickets here (I recommend this).

Sony Internet TV (Sony Cierge) event at SOHO house

Also of note, the annual Victoria Secret Fashion Show in New York. The Princess Grace Awards Gala in New York were also held this eve. They are always at Cipriani’s and Caroline Grimaldi (that’s not her official title) is always in attendance.

In L.A., the LACMA Costume Council held a tea with aforementioned Ken Downing (fashion director for Neiman Marcus). The LACMA Costume Council is great and anyone can join – here is a link!!

Tuesday, November 9, 2010:

Fendi Casa held an event in Bel Air with Haute Living mag.

Monday, November 8, 2010:

Judith Leiber hosted a book launch for Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant, while a Bulgari fete raged across the street on Rodeo Drive.

Alessandra Balazs at the Chateau on Saturday

Saturday, November 6, 2010:

We celebrate Angie Banicki‘s “Sweet 16 x 2″ at Trousdale. Happy birthday darling. And to Michelle Marie & Tarynn Manning over in the H.Wood basement (shhh).

Earlier on Saturday, Valentino hosted a trunk show for moms and daughters at Chateau Marmont – even Chateau owner André Balazs‘ daughter, Alessandra Balazs, was there! Other interesting offspring include Jacqui Getty & daughter Gia Coppola, Kelly Lynch & daughter Shane Lynch, Eva & Asia Chow,  Lisa and daughters Nathalie & Laura Love, Shiva Rose & daughter Colette McDermott. Cute! Jessica Kantor (Harvard-Westlake) at Vogue has a great article on this.

Another very cool fete – although down in Mexico – was Jeremy Scott latest collaboration launch party with Adidas Originals Party.

Fall 2010 Fashion: Dior Couture Show en Paris

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

The first thing I thought of while looking at the images from this show was the Flower Song from Alice in Wonderland.

Instead of my usual coverage from Couture shows (history, collages, details, front row scoop, etc) I have decided to just post some spectacular pictures from Olivier Zahm’s blog, Purple Diary.  I will be back to my old tricks come October for THE REAL Paris Fashion Week.

I just HAD to do something on this show because A. You know my favorite things ever are ball gowns and dress up, and B. The house, flowers, and some gowns remind me of Alice in Wonderland, which I admit I need help with as everything I see reminds me somehow of the book or films!

Anthony House in Cornwall, GB, used in Alice in Wonderland (2010)

I am obsessed with the abstract angles that these pictures were shot at; I want a few framed and put on my walls!  I’m also fascinated and in loveee with the up close pictures, I feel like I’m there and could touch the fabric.  These up close shots do much more for me than Style.com’s detail and beauty shots.

I included Olivier in piece I did with Blogs.com on the top 10 Fashion/ Party Photographers

I can see “clearly” now: Prada’s 2010 spring/summer show features clear plastic heels, bags and shades!

Fantastic Plastic? Miuccia Prada wanted her collection for Spring Summer 2010 to reflect a girl who would go from work to the beach. Overall, I enjoyed this collection because most pieces seemed very wearable and the silhouettes felt fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed the colors selected for this seasons designs because they were not your average spring slash summer colors. The colors chosen reminded me of the palette that Marni usually sticks to. I did not like the skirts or dresses at the end of the show with the dangling crystals. Maybe if they had been mixed into the show differently I would have liked them better.

This post is however not about the clothes, it is about the re- occurring theme of plastic, vinyl, and crystal accessories. What caught my attention about the accessories of this collection, was the repetition and cohesiveness of the designs. The shoes, sunglasses, and purses all fit together beautifully… Where there was a green pair of sunglasses, there was a crystal shoe with green accents waiting. Personally, I would never use a plastic purse of any style, unless MAYBE going to the beach. (I do not need the world to see what I am carrying around. My earliest memories of this style purse is from the workers on breaks outside Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdales. It is a rule for them that they must use purses where one can see all of the contents of the bag so one is no easily able to steal.) For runway use, I thought the purses were very cute and tied the whole look together of hip business gal goes to the beach. The only shoes that I really disliked were the half grandma half stripper clear shoes with the dangling crystals…I prefer to keep the chandelier pieces attached to the chandelier in the dining room ! Aesthetically, I thought it looked way tacky that you could see the velcro strips on each shoe, especially if you are going to be paying a hefty fee.

Chanel did a line very close to this a few seasons ago including all styles of handbags, shoes, jewelry, and sunglasses.

Special condolences from ME, Lauren Brokaw, go to the talented and super cool, Luella Bartley, whose label caught the recession flu and died, November 10th, 2009.

Luella ella ella ay ay

Not only should she be given an award for using bows all of the time and for having the cutest name ever, but she also deserves an award for her creativity, originality, and her mentality of being fearless and a bit kooky.

Unlike other high end designer brands, the customer who wore Luella was all about looking fashion forward and having a good time.

I loved Luella’s collections because they they never copied slash followed any upcoming trends, yet they always felt so current and new.

Something about this brand always screamed I‘m cute, english, and I follow the beat of my own drum, which has made me an “it” girl.
