Weekly Juice: Equinox Fitness, Tom Ford boutique, MGM Coming to Beverly Hills, Wendy Stark Opens Namesake Restaurant & Lounge at LACMA, Il Sole re-opens with Brent Bolthosue as new partner

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

We heart Wendy Stark. She is the god mother of one of our Trufflers here and, for those of you who don’t know, the daughter or Ray Stark who was quite the producer (Funny Girl, The Way We Were) here in L.A. She just hosted an opening for the new LACMA restaurant called Ray’s and a lounge called the Stark Bar via a gift from the Stark Foundation. Wendy is also a LACMA trustee, and the Los Angeles editor of Vanity Fair. NBD (no big deal).

Guess what? Remember when William Morris sold their 3 Beverly Hills buildings and leased space in the new high rise on Canon and Wilshire, but then merged with Endeavour who had space for them, but William Morris would have left the lease anyway because the building also rented to Gersh which was against their non-compete clause?

Well, guess who is going to fill oh those many offices left empty by William Morris’ broken lease? We hear MGM !! Our truffle hunters tell us MGM just signed a lease on the property and are moving out of their Century City tower and into the new Beverly Hills building. Mazel Tov!

They aren’t the only ones making deals … Equinox fitness finally signed a lease in the Bank of America building in Beverly Hills which measn you’ll know where to find us! Our trufflers tell us that Equinox had originally bid on the Sports Club L.A. location located on Camden underneath William Morris Endeavor but lost it to the rival gym.

In other Beverly Hills news … Tom Ford will FINALLY open his boutique (YESSSSSSSSS!) on Rodeo Drive this week. Big opening on Thursday this week …

We also have a sit down coming soon with Cedar Sinai’s head of Anesthesiology, Dr. Julian Gold, who is running for Beverly Hills city council (VOTE MARCH 8, 2011). His platform is highly endorse by The Daily Truffle and we will get in that more in the next couple days.

We also went on a tour of the construction site which will one day soon be the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills on Canon between Santa Monica and Little Santa Monica Blvd. We have pics, deets and stories coming soon about the historic Post Office but for now please watch this video about the project!

Also Il Sole re-opens this week with new partner Brent Bolthouse joining Andy Hewitt who has had the restaurant shut since December for light renovations.

Equinox – uh, yes it’s true! at least it’s true we’ve heard rumors from our real estate friends, BH locals and even instructors at the Sports Club L.A. in Beverly Hills. According to what we’ve heard, Equinox has signed a lease and preparing to renovate a building on Wilshire Blvd literally one block from the Sports Club L.A. in Beverly Hills! Word is that Equinox is still bitter from loosing the space to Sports Club and is moving across the street to make their life miserable. We also hear there membership dues will be half as much. Current Sports Club L.A. dues are $160.

Caroline Roman & Kevin Parker at Katrina Wan's birthday at Boudoir

Saturday, November 12, 2010:

30 years ago today a star was born. Katrina Wan, the E! News segment producer who parlayed her tenure at Disney publicity into what we know as Live from the Red Carpet One Hour Special: Pirates of the Caribbean 1, 2 & 3.  Boudoir promoter Brett Gurskyarranged sparklers, 3 ft pizza and played Tu Vuo’ Fa l’Americano just for the birthday girl. Katrina is well known in the film publicity world and is currently the V(I)P of Publicity atIndomina Releasing. Muah!
Also in Boudoir this eve – some cast mates from the Real Housewives from Beverly Hills, namely Kyle Richards who was celebrating her assistant’s birthday. Also in the house: Nicky Hilton, Brandon Davis, Kojo, and not with them but nearby we noticed Britney Spears parents!! The Umansky/Hilton clan was coming down from the Esquire House which was hosting a benefit for Oceana (you may remember them from there LV party earlier this year). The Esquire House, now in its 2nd month, is at a gorgeous home in Doheny Estates with amazing views! The master bedroom was decked out with Ferragamo. There was a fabulous media room theatre too! A cute touch was the “Corum Study” where guests were invited to bid on a special limited edition #1 of 50 Admiral’s Cup for Tourneau diving watch (retail price $8,000) graciously donated by Corum to benefit Oceana, a worldwide charity which focuses their efforts on protecting the world’s oceans.

Elle Fanning and Stephen Dorff and Sofia Coppola

The 2ND ANNUAL “Honorary Oscars” … Some usual MOCA suspects missing this eve turned up at the AMPAS 2nd Annual Governors Awards (as in Oscars) across town in Hollywood. This event is like the “honorary Oscars.”

The Academy’s Board of Governors basically gets together and decides to honor some of their peers; awards and toast were given to Francis Ford Coppola, Eli Wallach, Kevin Brownlow.

Also spotted: George Lucas, Natalie Portman, Kevin SpaceyRobert deNiro, Sharon Stone, Marissa Tomie, Oliver Stone, Kathryn Bigelow, James Caan, Robert Duvall Justin Long Josh Brolin Sam Rockwell, Clint EastwoodFrancis Ford Coppola and son Roman and daughter Sofia with Somewhere stars Elle Fanning and Stephan Dorf. You should all follow @TheAcademy on Twitter – especially as we near the Oscars.

The party featured a band - The Honey BrothersAdrian Grenier jammed with them is also an ambassador for Oceana - and several bars with catered food stations. The host for theOceana event was Esquire’s Publisher Steven McCrory. Also spotted at the house: Jeff GoldblumTheo AlexanderSam TrammellJennifer Love HewittLake Bell and the Four Seasons’ Kim KesslerAdrian Grenier (with new girlfriend, Emily Caldwell) and The Honey Brothers were up again early the next day for the “Children Uniting Nations’ 12th annual Day of the Child event.”After his set, Adrian sat at the end of the stage, talking with the kids, signing autographs and even letting them get their hands on his luscious locks.

MOCA Gala! After last years extreme performance from Lady Gaga and the Moscow ballet, MOCA was in for a challenge. MOCA Gala Chairs Maria Arena Bell and Eli Broad, Honorary Gala Chair Dasha Zhukova, Dinner Chairs Lilly Tartikoff Karatz, Nancy Marks, and Carolyn Powers, and MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch delivered with Beck + Devendra Banhart. Chanel Fine Jewelry sponsored the party and Max Azria sponsored the exhibit. MOCA has already had two warning fetes earlier this month, one at Chanel and one at Max Azria’s and the modern museum of contemporary art also had a VIP preview two weekends ago. Much hoopla for one of L.A.’s biggest nights in arts, philanthropy and fun! Spotted: literally too many celebs to mention but, Gwen, Gavin, Dasha, Ginnifer, Cameron, Rachel + Brad - to name a few, lots of PRs from Grey Goose, Harrison + Shriftman, MOCA and Slate PR and lots of reporters; Reagan Alexander from People, Matt Donnelly from L.A. Times, Merle Ginsberg from Hollywood Reporter and Morley Safer from 60 Minutes. The Ribisi’s, the Bell’s, the Chow’s, the Azria’s, the Arquette’s, the Taschen’s, the Ruscha’s. Every local high-end artist and art collector. Also noticed Peter Morton (Hard Rock), Gil Friesen (A&M), Richard Buckley sans Tom Ford, LACMA Director Michael Govan, Bettina Korek, Lauri Firstenberg, Eli & Edythe Broad, Zen Freeman on the 1s and 2s, former WME chairman Jim Wiatt and the Mrs, Lisa Eisner, Lisa Love, and Gray Davis who has been spotted all over town recently at video game launch parties, courtside at the Laker’s, and now here. Complete story on MOCA gala here!

Coming up this week in L.A. …

  • Watch out for the new IN ADD MINUS boutique opening. DJ Monet Mazur & DJ Theodora Richards are your entertainment.
  • Vogue  to host new Erin Fetherston capsule collection with Juicy Couture.
  • Johnny Knoxville and American Express will host a BBQ (!) at the Smog Shoppe for a documentary about “the last American family of outlaws!”
  • Barker Black collection and new boutique
  • Victoira Brenner and Jonathan Brown will host a book signing for Yul Brenner.

The Lipstick Diaries ~ Tom Ford + Lime Crime

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Lipstick. Red lipstick.

These are two words that are very close to my heart, as I wear red lipstick every time I leave the house.

Those of you who know me, know that my lips and nails are always red; It’s just a part of me.

I don’t like to wear makeup during the day if I don’t have to and applying a bit of M.A.C. Red always does the trick of making me look like I’m alive and awake.

Because I have blond hair, blue eyes, and am really pale, the red just seems to make all of the colors (Blond, blue, light skin) more saturated and POP!

In general, I just love lipstick and all the different shades and consistencies.

(I don’t really like lip gloss because my hair always gets stuck in it.)

In the past two days I keep seeing new images of new lipsticks that are out, and boyyyy am I excited to get my hands on one or all !

Mac Art Supplies

Speaking of my favorite lipstick…..The genius’ at MAC have come up with a NEW product, MAC Art Supply Lip Stain.

Lets break it down; Arts and crafts + Mac = GENIUS idea

That’s right, you can go out, eat, drink and be marry, followed by snogging a ‘victim on interest’ and this stain will STILL be on.

Tom Ford’s Private Blend Lip Color

Yes, Tom Ford is building his empire, and has added beauty to the roster, which will be available in the U.S. on June 1st.

(Neimans, Saks and Bergdorf will carry)

The images of his new collection, Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Color, are mind blowing as well as the packing which is kinda brilliant….” So fresh and so cleannn”.

This collection features 12 lipsticks in all different shades of nude, dramatic, and bold colors.

The only issue with these works of art, is that one lipstick will cost you 45$; The Cleu de Peu of lipsticks !

“I took the most universally flattering colors that a woman can wear, and then I reimagined them in a modern and authoritative way,” – Tom Ford to WWD

Lime Crime’s Future Candy

So we need to talk about 4 things here:

1. The girl who owns Lime Crime is named Doe Deere, and calls herself the Queen of the Unicorns. 2. The AhhhhMAZING packaging (don’t all girls just love Unicorns?) 3. The colors chosen, and 4. The pigments.

Wow, a girl after my own heart.  Doe Deere, makeup artist and blogger, wasn’t able to find makeup bright enough for her, so she set out to make her own line of criminally intense and fantastic makeup.  Her line is like crack to me; I need more!

Doe- a deer, a female deer
Ray- a drop of golden sun
Me- a name i call myself
Far- a long long way to run
Sew- a needle pulling thread
La- a note to follow so
Tea- a drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to do oh oh oh

Sorry, I couldn’t contain myself.

I want to have a tea party with her and invite Lisa Frank to come with all of her illustrated unicorns from my childhood.

So this is pretty much the cutest lipstick packaging ever… One should just buy this lipstick just for the packaging!

The image above MAKES me want to wear blue, purple, and black lipstick.  Out of all the colors possible, I think these are the best choice because the opaque/matte-ness and the pigment is shocking and intensely gorg…I want them all !

Pigment is very important in makeup, especially in eye shadows and lipsticks.  One can tell just by looking that these lipsticks are very high quality and highly pigmented. (Looks like a fresh coat of paint!)

The worst is looking at pretty colored lipsticks, only to find out thats its nothing like the color they promised. These Candy Future lipsticks are screaming pigment, which we love.

The Oscars of Fashion! Wang + Jacobs lead noms for Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) 2010 Awards

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

While I have been to most all award shows, I’d LOVE to go to the CFDA Awards… and obvi so would Tavi (Yes, we are now on a first name basis).

“I am not normally one for red carpet dressing (other than the CFDA gala)… “- Tavi, Oscar the grouch post

The Oscars of Fashion:

The CFDA’s annual awards ceremony, which honors excellence in fashion design, is often called “the Oscars of fashion.”  Nominations are submitted by CFDA members and by select fashion publications, retailers, and stylists. Award winners are voted on and announced at the annual CFDA Fashion Awards gala event.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. (CFDA) is a not-for-profit trade association of over 350 of America’s foremost fashion and accessory designers. As of 2009, Diane von Fürstenberg is the group’s President and Steven Kolb is the Executive Director. Founded in 1962, the CFDA continues to advance the status of fashion design as a branch of American art and culture; to raise its artistic and professional standards; to define a code of ethical practices of mutual benefit in public and trade relations; and, to promote appreciation of the fashion arts through leadership in quality and aesthetic discernment.

In addition to hosting the annual CFDA Fashion Awards, the organization is committed to nurturing the development of the American fashion industry’s future designers. The CFDA’s Educational Initiatives provide support and resources for students at the high school, collegiate and post-graduate levels. In addition, CFDA supports working designers in the early stages and throughout their careers. Among those efforts include the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, the Business of Fashion and the Business Service Network (BSN). The CFDA, through the CFDA Foundation, Inc., mobilizes its membership to support important charitable causes: Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, The CFDA Health initiative and The CFDA-Vogue Initiative for HIV and AIDS (7th on Sale)

The LACMA Costume Council – Fashion Shows, Private Lunches and Museum Perks

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

The LACMA Costume Council had a very busy week last week!

The Costume Council is fun as all the ladies love to get dressed up. There isn’t a ring finger in sight that isn’t sporting a minimum of three carats of diamonds and a woman in attendance who isn’t wearing something absolutely divine and is a personality. These are the ways of the Costume Council ladies.

It started out on March 10th at the FIDM “Debut 2010” dress rehearsal runway show, put on by LACMA’s Costume Council for members at Barker Air Hanger.

Major highlights of the graduating students’ cutting-edge contemporary fashion collections included short skirts and long dresses including a long organza train wedding dress, a few vibrant colors, many muted nudes, a plethora of shimmer and sequins, a few blacks, sheers, laces, ruffles and even a collection of alpaca wool was involved. Crazy feathered hats and headbands were everywhere and one designer even styled her entire collection around an Alice in Wonderland theme with tall pointed cone shaped hats and massive oversize bows on her models’ heads.

If I had to pick one rising star from the day, I would say to watch for African born Kapasa Musonda. Her collection was rich with buttery cream silks, beautiful and unique short sexy architectural dresses and even a couple of long evening gowns and one piece silk jumpers that any fashionista would be more than happy to don out on the town.

My mom and I attended the Costume Council fashion show together, she has been a member of Costume Council for over ten years and I for five. As my Mom is one of my best friends, we love doing things together and she is uber involved in so many fantastic things in our city. The Costume Council is an invitation only support council of LACMA that hosts wonderfully interesting fashion related educational monthly events. When I first joined five years ago it was mostly women my Mom’s age, but the ladies are actively trying to bring in young fabulous women and over the years I have sponsored a few good friends to get into the group.”  http://www.lacma.org/membership/ACCostume.aspx

Next up on my agenda was another Costume Council event on March 17th; one of the regular monthly member lectures and lunches at LACMA.

Always a lovely way to spend a Wednesday afternoon (LACMA is closed to the public on Wednesdays so Costume Council members enjoy a private afternoon at the museum), this month’s event started out with a presentation in the Bing Theatre and ended with a delicious lunch on the Los Angeles Times Central Court.

The topic of the day was “Costume Design & Fashion in Film, A Conversation with Costume Designer/Stylist Arianne Phillips and Style Journalist Rose Apodaca”.

Wanting to share the Council and special day, I invited my friend Monique Konovalov (who I know from working on the board of MOCA Contemporaries together). We share common loves of art, fashion, shopping and um … sometimes obsessing over certain to DIE FOR Louboutins, fur coats, of other must have items.

Arianne Phillips is regarded as one of the best in the realms of film, music, and fashion and is an Academy Award nominee costume designer and stylist. She was nominated this year for a BAFTA for costuming Tom Ford‘s directorial debut film A Single Man. Rose Apodaca, pop culture and style journalist, interviewed Arianne on such topics as styling Lenny Kravitz and Justin Timberlake and her thirteen year collaboration as being Madonna’s stylist.

We enjoyed slides of vibrant and gorgeous ads and photo shoots she’d styled over the years and heard tales of her experiences doing costume design for film. She said she absolutely LOVES working with Madonna who constantly inspires her.

It was a fascinating day and I especially enjoyed it as I dabbled with costume design in my early twenties before deciding the hours were much too long and demanding. After working on a few Roger Corman films in Venice I went to Art Center for my graduate degree in Fine Art, though my two passions have always and will always be fashion AND art.

Tom Ford’s “A Single Man” Premiere & After Party at Chateau Marmont

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Marc Jacobs, Colin Firth & Nicholas Hoult from A Simple Man

Just another night in Hollywood … film & fashion Illuminati of Los Angeles packed the Chateau post the premiere of Tom Ford’s new film at the Chinese Mann with a reception sponsored by Audi at the Roosevelt where Baskin Robbins ice cream cake.

My date wore herringbone, I donned Ports 1961 (courtesy of The A List). Tom Ford and his friends milled about, cool as cucumbers, and generally fabulous, much like the highly stylized film we saw earlier in the night, which featured stunning composition, gorgeous people, cars, set design looking straight out of a 1960s photo shoot for Vogue. Expect to see every middle class family on the block inexplicably driving a classic Mercedes Benz.

Tom Ford has just dumped the obscure genre of Fashion Film smack into the middle mainstream cinema now and forever. Everyone will want movies to look as stunning, and be as sexy, as “A Single Man.” In this movie – expect to see drop dead gorgeous male models brooding in phone booths, and the like. One scene features a cameo by Tom Ford’s favorite ad models, Jon Kortajarena, who plays a hustler named Carlos.
Guests at the premiere, reception and after party include: Chloë Sevigny, Tom Ford, Nico Golfar, Matt Donnelly, Carly Steel, Andrea Guttag, Miles Fisher, Chiara de Rege, Rita Wilson, Colin Firth, Ginnifer Goodwin, Nicholas Hoult, Nicole Steinwedell, etc.

Baskin Robbins sent ice creme cake to the after party!

My tights and rocker booties from Diavolina - and yes - if I like the way I looked that night - I would have included a different photo

Weekly Juice – Beverly Hills hotel renovations, Soho House permits finally come through, Dasha Zhukova returns to her native LA for MOCA party

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Squeeze it, Read it, Love it

My friends at the Beverly Hills hotel (aka “The Pink Hotel”) tell me the Sultan of Brunei, the hotel’s current owner, plans to build two more large bungalows on the beloved tennis court (RIP). I noticed the hotel also recently change the doormen and bellmen uniforms from the traditional dark green to black suits with gold accents. The publicist confirmed the new, and more contemporary and stylish look.
Old Guy’s new location on Sunset Blvd has been slightly delayed. Originally slated to open this fall – the new opening date is December ’09. The new bar will go by the name “Le Bar Boutique” at the former Blowfish location, now standing empty.

Jilted bride victim from Bel-Air hotel’s sudden closure wins law suit to retrieve deposit.

SOHO House final permits go through and construction continues in the 9200 Sunset Blvd building (across the street from  soon to be “Le Bar Boutique” and upstairs from new Boa).

Tom Ford‘s in town for the world premiere of his directorial debut film “A Single Man” – premieres this Thursday at AFI Fest.

Dasha Zhukova returns to her native Los Angeles to co-chair major fundraiser for MOCA downtown with Larry Gagoshian and Eli Broad. Performance by Lady Gaga and the Bolshoi Ballet choreographed by artist Francesco Vezzoli (who has made spoof trailers casted with A-list actors for fake films – that’s how good he is!).

The Daily Truffle will be at the Breeder’s Cup this weekend at the Santa Anita track at Kids Zone, The Directors Room and the Turf Club. Come say hello!
