Best L.A. Insider Blogs 2009

Deadline Hollywood by Nikki Finke
In 2008 Finke was named on Elle magazine’s 25 most influential women in Hollywood list. In 2009 she sold Deadline to Jay Penske’s Mail.com Media Corp, reportedly for $14 Million, under an agreement by which she continues as the Editor-in-chief and President of the website which still features her reporting and commentary.

Neverwood High by Carlos Lopez

Carlos is buddies with Nichole Richie, the Olsens, the Hiltons, Erin Wasson, Mischa Barton and several other notable names around town. He describes his life as “one big editorial shoot.” His follow-up blog to the former “Clubahlah” website where the application forms for membership included questions like Where do you summer, What car you drive, How many fashion weeks you attend, and asks for lists of your favorite clubs, including specific nights, and cell phones to each of the promoters who runs the night. He now has launched “Neverwood High:” which “Welcome to the first ever online school. Who says you have to live in 90210 to attend the most exclusive high school? Pick who sits at your table in the cafeteria and find out the latest trends, styles, and future fads”. With cute sections such as “Orientation” and “Admissions Office” he takes you through the “NWH Curriculum” and offers “Counselors Office” and plenty of “Extracurricular activities” and a special section for “Transfer Students .”

Shane Powers – “
Pop Goes the Culture”

Shane Powers is a L.A. based promoter for exclusive set of high-end patrons, celebrities, the entertainment crowd and just about the most beautiful women you could possibly muster up. His company, The Alliance, co-owed with Josh Richman and Hartwell (just Hartwell), is called upon by major brands like GM, Rockin’ Republic, and PR companies like BNC to round out a crowd that may otherwise be filled with and no interesting eye candy to impress the executives – and certainly nothing for the press to write about. This is high-end marketing at it’s finest. As the old sports car industry adage goes: “What’s seen at the track on Sunday, sells in the showroom on Monday”.
