L.A. Native (kinda) Kesha & Her Self-Proclaimed “Garbage Chic” Style

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Ok, so I’m not hating on Kesha, I respect the fact that she has her own “interesting” style, I just personally feel like its very dirty and confused looking lol.  She reminds me of a college girl who had on a lot of makeup and got really drunk to wake up in the morning looking like a hot mess.  I also imagine her to belch and flatulate in public, then laugh about it after.

Keshahas said that her style is “garbage chic”, I would agree with that and at times I would also say ” post mental hospital chic ” too.

Boy would love to get my hands on her….+  change her makeup !! She looks like a very pretty girl under all of that abstract mess:-/

Btw: I LOVE the way Lady Gaga dresses, she is so creative and ahhmazing… There is a big difference to any of you who will try to tell me wrong.

I know, I know, she has the number album and 3 singles on the top 10 on Itunes, so she is obvii doing something right.  Click to Continue Reading

Is Paris Hilton the Dr. Dre of reality TV stars?

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Ever noticed that almost every reality star is FROM L.A.? You may not have noticed if you didn’t go to school with ten of them — but we did and we are here to take you on a deeper look at all the L.A. Natives from Beverly High, Crossroads (Spencer Pratt, Roxy Olin, Whitney Port), Buckley (Paris Hilton, Kim Stewart, Nichole Richie), and Malibu High (Brody Jenner, Chad Rogers) who have single-handedly created a world of reality shows between them and their friends – ALL STARTING WITH PARIS.

In 2004, when I was at The Lounge on a Thursday, or a Monday at Joseph’s (thank you Bolthouse), Paris would strut in with Kim Stewart, Nichole Richie, Caroline d’Amore, her sister Nicky Hilton, Kim Kardashian and possie. The paps out back Jen Rosero use to hold at bay with her giant fist would DIE over Paris coming out – cause she’s model tall and model thin and model pretty; add in a household name like Hilton and you have a celebrity in the making.

Enter Untitled Management – the “IT” Management company of the day who was sister companies with Maverick Films (Madonna) who was still in it’s infancy and later turned into Mark Morgan films (my old boss – love Mark) who is responsible for a little series called TWILIGHT. Jason Moore at Untiled Management was very looped in, very charismatic, all over town, knew everyone, etc and basically turned local celebrity Paris Hilton into household name.

Paris is like the Dr Dre of reality stars because for every person she makes famous, they make three people famous, and they make three people famous! Paris even has a mentor who brought her up (not really but) Jamie Johnson paved way for it to drool over “children of” on TV and was too ahead of his time, with his sort of weird, kind of amazing doc Born Rich (2003), about NY kids.

  • From Paris, The Simple Life was born and Nicole Richie got famous, from Nicole, Rachel Zoe (her stylist) got famous and got her own show The Rachel Zoe Project. Taylor Jacobson (Beverly Hills High), is Rachels assistant on “The Rachel Zoe Project.” Also, from Nicole Richie, the much loved Adam Goldstein aka DJ AM (RIP) got famous and was eventually given his own MTV show Gone Too Far which was aired after his death :(
  • From Paris, her mother Kathy Hilton got famous and was given her own realty show called I Want To Be a Hilton on NBC.
  • From Paris, her aunts Kim and Kyle Richards became recognizable to the casting directors of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills who immediately decided to build the cast around Kim and Kyle Richards. Kyle brought on her bff Lisa Vanderpump (love her!) and Lisa brought on Adrienne Maloof and Adrienne brought on Taylor and Camille.
  • From Paris, Kim Stewart got famous who is the daughter of Rod Stewart and older sister of Sean Stewart. Sean Stewart was cast on Celebrtiy Rehab which also featured L.A. native Seth Binzer (Crazytown and I think went to Beverly but I know for sure he was in CBS ;) his tag name was “Back”). He was later cast of Sons of Hollywood with Randy Spelling (John Thomas Dye) and David Weintraub, all LA Natives. Tori Spelling also landed a show with her husband Tori & Dean.
  • From Paris, Nicky Hilton got famous and from her, David Katzenberg (Harvard-Westlake) her bf got famous – watch for his new MTV show HARD TIMES.)
  • From Paris, Caroline d’Amore got famous and she had a little Miami show she hosted briefly but also got famous for being hot, being a hot Dj, and being – BY FAR – the sassiest girl on the catlwalk every year Smashbox had LA Fashion Week, and at every To Be Free show (when Spin Shoppe and The Alliance use to host), etc.
  • Simple Life paves the way for Filthy Rich cattle drive - Courtenay Semel and Kourtney Kardashian are cast.
  • From Paris, Kim Kardashian got famous because they use to go out a lo. Soon Keeping up with the Kardashians is born. Kim paves the way for her sisters to become stars and they branch out with Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. Then Kim’s friends and sometimes publicists Jonathan Cheban and Simon Huck got the showThe Spin Crowd based on their company Command PR.
  • Keeping up with the Kardashians paves the way for Pretty Wild with Alexis Mieiers from (or maybe not) The Bling Ring (who robbed Orlando Bloom, etc.).
  • From Paris, Brody Jenner got famous. They use to hang out a lot and were friends from high school. Brody is Kim Kardashian’s step-brother and Spencer Pratt is his best from from Crossroads high school in Santa Monica. Spencer was sort of masterminded the entire Princes of Malibu show (remember that? re watch it – its good and very truthful about Malibu Colony). After the Princes of Malibu, Brody was seen on The Real OC all the time with his friends 3 promoter buddies Taylor Mosher (LA native, promoter and designer for ArchAngel and known as “Sleazy T” on The Hills), Ryan Cook (the adorable Canadian promoter with blonde curls, always on The Hills), and Frankie Delgado (who I love, also a promoter and a regular on The Hills). A little side not but Jared Najjar used to be the financier behind Brody and Spencer’s success and helped them start all start Archangel jewelry. Jared recently opened Prism gallery on Sunset and has a lot of support from modern art world royalty like Dasha Zhukova and PC Valbormida and even hosted the after for the annual MOCA gala during it’s first year. From The Hills, Lauren’s boss at People’s Revolution, Kelly Coutrone got her own spin -off show Kell on Earth.
  • From the Real OC, The Hills was born. Spencer Pratt was responsible for getting his friends from Crossroads (high school) in Los Angeles on the show - Whitney Port, who later brought on Roxy Olin and his sister Stephanie Pratt (Crossroads).
  • Then The Hills segways into The City and Whitney brings along bff Roxy Olin (also a Crossroads girl)- on which Olivia Palmero, already made famous by www.socialightrank.com (now defunct), becomes a reality star
  • The City with Olivia Palmero paves the way for High Socity with Tinsely Mortimer
  • LA / Malibu native Chad Rogers, a realtor at Paris Hilton’s dad’s company Hilton & Hyland and friend of Paris, gets a show -Million Dollar Listing - with two other realtors Josh Flagg and Madison Hildebrand - all of whom happen to also be LA Natives - coincidence? I think not!
  • Paris’ new show on Oxygen, ”The New Untitled Paris Hilton Project,” will feature her new gang of closest friends Brooke Mueller (Charlie Sheen’s ex), Jennifer Rovero (Hilton’s photographer, and former Playboy model and ex-girlfriend of Fred Durst) and fellow socialite Allison Melnick. Allison - party promoter, celebrity wrangler and bff to Paris – has had many cameos on reality shows already, including P Hil’s My New BFF.

Seth Macfarlane & Brent Bolthouse Star Wars Christmas Party

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

The Invite

Seth Macfarlane, Twentieth Century Fox, Brent Bolthouse, and Night Vision Entertainment really out did themselves this time! This was definitely an experience I will not forget… for many reasons. One hour and forty five minutes after checking in, we finally made it to the party!

What took so long? Checking in was not the issue,(Thanks Brett :- )) but there were hundreds of people waiting in line to get the next shuttle… My friends and I decided that we did not want to wait in the freezing cold for the shuttle, so we thought we were going to out smart the situation by waiting for the shuttle to come and then follow it to the party ourselves.  That did not go so well considering that it took forty minutes for the shuttle to come back to the check in at 9255 Sunset Blvd.  Finally, not one or two shuttles, but three shuttles came to the pick up location and we were off, like Santa and his reindeer!  I became very giddy as we pulled up to the house and I saw tons of whimsical decorations and SNOW.

Night Vision Entertainment did an UNBELIEVABLE JOB with this transformation. Upon entering Seth’s wonderland, guests were ushered into an enormous party with goodies and new surprises at every corner! Every time I thought I had seen the whole party, there was another room or another whole area, decked out.

Being from LA and only experiencing a few real winters (elsewhere), it was great to feel like I was in a real winter wonderland… ready with snow, reindeer, enormous nut crackers, elf’s, presents, and everything one could ask for. (Including reallyyyy good looking boys : )

The deets:

White and dark chocolate fondu stations set up with marshmallows and delish cookies to dunk

  • Three bars with no lines
  • A ice sculpture of Stewie carved out to be Stewie Vader… Or Darth Stewie?
  • The host of the party was dressed oh so classy in a black tuxedo with white blazer and red rose pin.
  • The coolest photo station ever, but after waiting in line for twenty minutes to take a picture with Santa Chewbacca and his elf, they were randomly ushered downstairs to the transformed tennis court to put on a show with ten storm troopers. With sad pouty faces we just decided to pose with light sabers. (Hello, this is LA, there is no shortage of extras slash under studies!)
  • Mr. Macfarlane’s giant tennis court was converted into a large tent housing Ron Jones and his forty four piece band in addition to a very spacious dance floor. Mr. Jones was the perfect man to conduct this event as he has Star trek, Mission Impossible, American Dad, and Family Guy on his very lengthy resume.
  • A few of the four hundred-ish guests included: Ryan Phillippe, Bill Mahr, Clifton Collins Jr., Sam Trammel from True Blood, Alissa Milano, Rembrandt Flores, Audrina Patridge, Seth Green, Michael Baruch, Zach Braff, the Sham Wow guy, Levar Burton, and Andy Hewitt.  LA natives, Sara Paxton, Paris Hilton, Sabrina Yadegar, Justin Murdock, Tyson Park, Adam Daneshgar, Harry Morton and many many more !

After drinks, dancing, friends, dessert, pictures, a lot of fun, and very sore feet, It was time to go collect my Family Guy lunch box and go home.

The saga continues as Luke (Chris), Leia (Lois), Han Solo (Peter), and Chewbacca (Brian) have evaded the dreaded Imperial Starfleet led by the cunning, and curiously short evil lord Darth Vader (Stewie), setting up a new secret base on the remote ice world of Hoth.  With the rebellion in trouble young Skywalker must take the advice of his late, and rather lascivious, mentor Obi-Wan-Kenobi (Herbert) and learn the ways of the farce under Jedi Master Yoda (Carl) to save the galaxy once and for all. – Courtesy of Fox Home

Darren Romanelli, Ahmet Zappa with fiance designer Shana Muldoon - Congratulations to Ahmet & Shana who got engaged after this was posted in mid-December!

It was an L.A. native Smörgåsbord at Kitson Wednesday night. My longtime friend from growing up in L.A., Ashlee Margolis, hosted a fabulous party for our two fellow L.A. Natives Darren Romanelli and Anita Ko who just came out with collaboration lines for the upcoming Jim Henson film “Fraggle Rock”, produced by none other than one of my uber favorite L.A. Natives, Ahmet Zappa. I brought along a couple more natives Lauren Brokaw and Tyson Park to see Darren’s new line of Fraggle Rock Ts and sweatshirts and Anita’s new line of Fraggle Rock jewelry. You can see all Darren’s t-shirts on his new Dr Doozer website.

And just when you thought there couldn’t be room for one more L.A. Native to be involved – there are two! Jason Segel (Harvard Westlake ’96, “Forgetting Sara Marshall”, “I Love You, Man”) is attached to writer and/or act in the “Untitled Muppets Movie” slated for 2012 release. It also turns out L.A. Native Trevor McFedries (Beverly ’01) better known as DJ Skeet Skeet did a fraggle rock remix for Dr Romanelli and Jim Henson studios – you can hear it on the Dr Doozer site.

Were You at the MOCA Gala last night? All the stars agreed it was an important night in art for L.A.

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Lady Gaga (in Prada S/S 2010) with choreographer Francesco Vezzoli, Muccia Prada on arrives at MOCA is the same dress from her Spring '10 collection.

We are so excited about all the change happening in the art world here in L.A.! You have NO IDEA how much!!!

We are planning to closely track what we are now calling the “Gallerinas” and “Galleratti” – so stay tuned!

We feel soon that you won’t be able to attend any premiere or red carpet without there being flying acrobats coming at you or some artistic collaboration. We believe Hollywood is going to propel performance art into the mainstream and soon gallery owners, art collectors and artists will be as well know as producers, directors and actors.

We are very excited about all this and largely attribute it to MOCA for putting together the correct group of people for this year’s 30th anniversary Gala last night – and by that I am referring to Dasha Zhukova, Francesco Vezzoli and Lady Gaga. The Dream Team!

If you read our post this week entitled, “Why the MOCA Gala this weekend will change everything in art forever, thanks to Lady Gaga, Francesco Vezzoli and Dasha Zhukova“, you’ve dying for the re-cap! Franscesco Vezzoli’s one-time-only musical, dubbed “Ballet Russes Italian Style (The Shortest Musical You Will Never See Again)” was acted out by the Bolshoi ballet dancers and Lady Gaga, who wore a hat designed by Frank Gehry. Lady Gaga’s “premiere” performance of her song “Speechless” was preformed on a rotating pink Steinway grand piano created by Damien Hirst which was auctioned off afterward for $450,000.

Total auction dollars raised was 3.5M. MOCA’s chief curator, Paul Schimmel, tour the stars through the MOCA permanent collection at their 30th anniversary gala. Permanent collection includes work by Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Prince, Raymond Pettibon, Mark Rothko, Edward Ruscha (who was in attendance with his wife), Christopher Wool, Larry Clark, Nan Goldin, Franz Kline, etc. In honor of its 30th anniversary, MOCA is also offering free admission through Friday. The exhibition will be up through until Spring 2010. MOCA performers’ costumes are also up for auction online through Nov. 30. All of the funds raised will be used to benefit the exhibition and education programs.

One gala attendee at MOCA downtown remarked: “This event is so big that its insane… How often do you get all of these people in one room together ???? NEVER… Marrying art to ballet (referring to the Bolshoi ballet that was bussed in from Moscow thanks to Dasha) to Lady Gaga’s bizarre antics with notable individuals from all over the world should NOT be taken lightly. This event was more European than anything. NYC-style but very European as well.”

It helps to have star support. And you can credit the powerful turn out last night to Francesco Vezzoli, the Italian performance artist who has produced saucy, sexy, performance and mock art pieces from faux trailers to faux commercials and star A list actors like Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Helen Mirren, Gore Vidal, Benecio del Toro, Milla Jovavich and Gerard Butler.

His history of bringing the stars together did not fail last night.

It’s a surprise that Margarita Missoni was a no show, she came to town to stay at Quincy Jones’ house for the weekend. She did show up later at the after party with Eugenie Niarchos, brother of Stavros Niarchos, SPICE BURNS, an incredible new band, arrived with awesome headbands Margherita Missoni on talong with the rest of the girls from her new band Spice Burns.

Artist Channing Hansen (brother of Beck) attended as well and tweeted “The Collections show at MOCA is F’in amazing!” Designer Jeremy Scott who accompanied a publicist by the name of Jessica who is a founder of the young patrons group at MOCA, L.A. Native Harry Morton, and director Griffin (who’s latest film for Rodarte starring Jenny Lewis was selected to go to Diane Pernet’s film festival opening Paris Fashion Week), Cory Kennedy showed, separate from her xbf L.A. Native Mark Hunter (the Cobrasnake), who showed with Atlanta de Cadenet (New Roads High) showed up together – Atlanta, hipster extraordinaire, is the daughter of Amanda de Cadenet and Duran Duran band member John Taylor, who is now married to Gela Taylor, the G in the P&G of Juicy Couture. Artist and promoter Louis Carreon said “It was a breath of fresh air – a sexy mix of art and pop culture in Hollywood’s newest art venue! (prism on sunset). One attendee said some people were saying the stage was too small for the ballerinas but that everyone could agree on one thing – It was an important night for L.A.
Griffin, who directed Rodarte’s last fashion film video with Jenny Lewis, attended the after party, which was co-hosted by the Rodarte sisters and Grey Goose. The fashion film director said it was weird that not a lot of people outside these circles seemed to know about the event. The next he commented no one was blogging online and even the major outlets didn’t have stories. Just a bunch of photos with captions lying around the net. Even Style.com which normally would hit such a thing.

A lot of people can’t comprehend the concept that this event marks the turning point of art in L.A. because it is the first time THE RIGHT people have demonstrated how to fuse dance and art with fashion and Hollywood. Soon it will be the norm to expect art collaborations in your fashion and  operettas sung to you as you enter a party and wild dance performances as basic entertainment. It will be as expected to know major art world patrons, artists and galleriest as we now know celebutantes, A List actors and reality “actors”.

But one naysayer has little faith in Los Angeles’ ability to change. “One of the things that is really a plus for NYC is that you can go to Times Square and see the premier of Madame Butterfly @ Lincoln Center on the big screen if you don’t attend the show. There are like 1,000 chairs in front of the huge TV and red petals everywhere! It was such a beautiful idea and really brought people together. What do we have? TMZ! Its such a trek to have to go downtown to see a show… Not even as good of a show as u would see on Broadway or off Broadway… NOT TO MENTION that in NYC u dress up to go c a show and in la people wear sweats and work out clothes. I was so disappointed last year when I went to multiple opera’s and people were like super casually dressed. I’m going to take my aggression out on la and go to London / Paris / Austria, to see a show dressed in a ball gown with spectacles. Sooooo annoying to me because people LOVE art here and we don’t have a good selection :(

We disagree … There is an art and performance art revolution in the making and we are on it! Watch this video from Vogue.com featuring Annie Leibowitz and Grace Coddington – they agree and are planning an incredible performance arts issue for December featuring none other than Lady Gaga! See a pattern people?? In it, Grace says it was “Anna’s” idea to bring in Lady Gaga. Looks like we are not the only ones obsessed with the “performance arts” lately!

Not yet mentioned are the charitable donations from art collector and philanthropist Eli Broad has given the art world in L.A., international super-dealer and co-chair Larry Gagosian, and MOCA board of trustee and gala co-chair Maria Arena Bell and her family. Eli Broad is about to open a new museum in Beverly Hills called THE BROAD CONTEMPORARY ART COLLECTION. He is currently considering the Starbucks building and adjacent lots across the street from The Peninsula Hotel on little Santa Monica Blvd.

Why the MOCA Gala this weekend will change everything in art forever, thanks to Lady Gaga, Francesco Vezzoli and Dasha Zhukova

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

moca los angelesUpdate: Nav. 15, 2009: We now have a report from the MOCA gala here

The headlines read:

* * * * * *MEDIA ALERT* * * * * *
MOCA ANNIVERSARY GALA CELEBRATES 30 YEARS
One-night-only performance of “Ballets Russes Italian Style” starring Lady Gaga and the Bolshoi Ballet choreographed by Italian performance artist Francesco Vezzoli hosted by Gala chairs Maria Arena Bell and Eli Broad, Honorary Gala Chairs Larry Gagosian (Gagosian Gallery) and Dasha Zhukova (Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Moscow).
This event is so important because it’s the first time Los Angeles has had the correct set of art patrons, socialites and hosts to exemplify how performance art can bring regular art in to every day life. MOCA has assembled such a dream with 3 key ingredients it never had before: Francesco Vezzoli, Dasha Zhukova  and Lady Gaga. Francesco Vezzoli, the most successful performance artist on Earth, is choreographing the entertainment – an outrageous preformance starring Lady Gaga and the Russian-based Bolshoi Ballet. Dasha Zhukova put art on the map in Moscow for young people, before moving to London last year to take over Pop Magazine and has been in and out of L.A. recently eating at Osteria Mozza and planning this event at MOCA. Even more key – she is an L.A. Native (went to Pacific Hills in West Hollywood). The fact that she is back doing this now – is the major event that is going to make the event this weekend change everything and is going to completely push art over the edge in L.A. And then ofcourse there is Lady Gaga, and well, you know. She is Lady Gaga.

But my friends – allow me to break it down for you step by step:

1a. The most important thing you need to know is the name “Francesco Vezzoli,” MOCA gala entertainment choreographer.
You may remember his recent internet sensation – a faux commercial about featuring Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams cat fighting in lingerie on the ground over a faux perfume bottle called “Greed”. This is NOT TO BE confused with Natalie Portman’s upcoming girl on girl sex scene with Mila Kunis. Separate issue.

Natalie Portman & Michelle Williams perform in “Greed” commercial
Watch it here:

1b. Francesco Vezzoli is capable of moving mass tides.
In March 2005, Italian artist Francesco Vezzoli directed and filmed a faux trailer for a non-existent remake of Gore Vidal’s Caligula. (Gore Vidal is an screenwriter, political activist and the stepbrother and confidant of Jacqueline Kennedy). The film debuted June 10, 2005 at the Venice Biennale 2005. He is capable of getting massively important people behind him for his art. Look at this credit list:
Directed by Francesco Vezzoli
Cast
Courtney Love … Caligula
Milla Jovovich …. Druscilla
Karen Black … Agrippina
Benicio Del Toro … Macro
Michelle Phillips … Messalina
Glenn Shadix … Claudius
Helen Mirren … Tiberia
Gore Vidal … himself

From Vogue UK website:

WHEN IN ROME WEAR VERSACE
Donatella Versace designed costumes for Courtney Love, Milla Jovovich, Benicio Del Toro and Helen Mirren for the trailer of a remake of Gore Vidal’s 1979 masterpiece, Caligula. The trailer, presented on Friday at the Pavillon at the Venice Biennale, is the result of a collaboration between Versace and artist Francesco Vezzoli who has attempted to create a hypothetical remake of what is one of the most controversial films of the last 30 years. As explosive as the original director Tinto Brass’ version, the new film will star Milla Jovovich as Drusilla, the sister with whom Caligula has a passionate affair, Del Toro as Macro and Mirren as Tiberia. It will also feature cameo appearances from Vidal himself and Adriana Asti, who starred in the original film. And Donatella was the perfect choice to dress them. “The challenge,” she said, “was to make the ancient Roman togas modern, rendering them more proportioned, sophisticated and sensual while still in tune with the times. I choose simple opaque jersey for the costumes and inserted the classic Versace symbols such as the medusa and the gold metal chain to give them that contemporary edge.”

Watch the trailer for a remake Gore Vidal’s Caligula (2005) here:

2. The second most important thing you need to know is the name “Dasha Zhukova,” MOCA gala co-host.
Dasha is the current reigning social Queen of the non-US territories. She is as well known as Paris Hilton or Beyonce in Moscow and London. She is currently pregnant with Roman Aboramavich’s baby – who is the wealthiest man in Russian and owns the world’s two largest yachts.
Dasha grew up in Los Angeles (Pacific Hills ’99) and moved to Russia and then London when she was tapped to edit Pop Magazine (think US weekly meets Rolling Stone). Dasha put herself on the map by turning an old bus station in Moscow into a gallery for modern art. It is called the Garage Centre for Contemporary Culture (GCCC).
Dasha is in and out of L.A. all the time with the likes of Andrea Casiraghi (heir to throne in Monaco) and they eat at Mozza Ostera and the Beverly Hills Hotel Polo Lounge. Dasha has a US-based clothing line called Kova & T.
The reason why Dasha co-hosting this event is so important is because she has a proven ability to penetrate the art world and make it exciting. She had NO background in art before she transformed the Garage. She had no experience with buying and collecting art before she recently started. The art world does not accept new-comers from Russia who are dating billionaires. But she is completely respected because her choices are impeccable.
IF Dasha returns to L.A. she will focus her energy on REDEFINING the art world for young people. Venice. Aside from street art – there is nothing at all interesting about the art culture in L.A. It’s boring and basically sucks. IF Dasha makes a move to focus her energies on Los Angeles once more, we will have an art culture BOOM OUT OF NOWHERE that will be on par with major film premieres, the Oscars, Laker’s play-off games, and other spectacular events L.A. is known for. Dasha also has a blog.

Celebrities wearing Kova & T:

November 6th, 2009 (Hollywood, CA)- Last week “New Moon” star Kristen Stewart wore the Kova & T “Audrey” cropped blazer while attending The Twilight Saga: New Moon cast tour
November 9th, 2009 (New York, NY)- Last night actress Demi Moore wore the Kova & T “Janet” tunic dress in black and gray to the 9th Annual 24 Hour Plays on Broadway

3. Listen how this all fits together:

The Garage Centre for Contemporary Culture (GCCC) has made possible the one-time preformance with Lady Gaga, the Bolshoi Ballet and Francesco Vezzoli (try to learn the name). Francesco Vezzoli is fabulous friends with Larry Gagosian. Larry was instrumental in helping Francesco pull off his elaborate hoax in London to lure patrons to his gallery to see the Eaux de Faux “Greed”. Dasha and Larry are friends because she now lives in London and helps the arts there.

  4. Learn the term”gallerina,” loose the term, celebutante, and watch for Los Angeles’ new society Queens.

This is a photo from the last great MOCA party – the Louis Vuitton/Murakami collaboration. Where there are celerbities, there are more sponsors willing to pay for more placement which make the parties better for everyone. Muccia Prada is a friend of Francesco Vezzoli (again, try to learn the name). Muccia is well-known for collaborations with architects, designers, filmmakers, artists and photographers worldwide -even L.A. based celebrities and party promoters like her friend Amanda Demme, who often handle invites and guest lists for her store parties on Rodeo (look out for the Prada book launch on Rodeo this Friday). Muccia is friends with all the L.A. coolies and is often in Los Angeles. Ergo, MOCA now has a formula. A community of incredibly hip, chic, and famous artists, designers, celebrities, art buyers and gallerinas are about to POP in L.A.Collecting, understanding and being involved in art is about to become as important as it is for ALL Angelenos as it currently is for certain social sets in New York. I am not saying Maastricht will have to move to the L.A. Convention center – I’m calling a new era in art and the way it’s handled in mainstream living, as exemplified by celebrities, films, parties and society in Los Angeles.

5. Why you as an Angeleno should care and what you can do about it.
Follow our blog. We will be tracking the progress of this and putting it into terms you can all understanding, connecting dots between people and explaining why certain things matter more than others.

More things to know about ”Francesco Vezzoli”.

1. Vezzoli has trademark tears. Watch for them in his art, or on French Vogue covers.

FROM LA TIMES: Davis was inspired to create her line of ultra-comfortable shoes when she was having trouble standing for long periods of time due to foot pain caused by her diabetes. She and her family have raised over $75 million for diabetes research, with the Carousel of Hope ball fund-raiser being founded in her honor. She developed a shoe with an orthotic sole that’s as cushion-y as any Easy Spirit, but far more fashionable. In fact, Davis has figured out how to increase the heels on pumps to almost 6 inches, while still maintaining the comfort of the built-in orthotic. Those heels will be offered for spring and are sure to be seen on any celebrity who cares about comfort while walking the red carpet.

L.A. Native David Katzenberg directs "Hard Times" on MTV

Original post date: 9/1/09

Bret Ratner just gave first-time director David Katzenberg of MTV’s “Hard Times” the thumbs up. David is also an L.A. Native, son of Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Nicky Hilton’s BF. Ratner said via Twitter: “Its his first directing gig and he did a great job!

On July 9th, MTV announced “Hard Times,” a coming-of-age comedy created and executive produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith. The teen series, whose plot is drawing comparisons to HBO’s older-skewing new comedy “Hung,” chronicles the hellish life of RJ Berger, a desperately unpopular 15-year-old.

David also has a twin sister Laura …

Truffle Exclusive: Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast revealed

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Kathy Hilton, Kim Richards, Kyle Richards - Photo by © Glenn Harris

“We hear Kyle & Kim Richards, aunts of Paris Hilton, are signed to the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills … shhhhh!”

Though Bravo has not confirmed it, I’ve have heard several reports that at least one of Kathy Hilton’s beautiful sisters could very well be the belle of Bravo’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, which officially begins production in March!

Bravo has been deliberating between two groups of five hopeful Beverly Hills housewives  since the Spring but I have just gotten word production will begin in March, which means its decision time!

“Bravo wanted to build the cast around some Hiltons, yes Kyle is one of them, I think Kim too … but it ain’t over till the fat lady sings ” – an anonymous source close to the project told The Daily Truffle

My source also tells me Lisa Todd, owner of Villa Blanca in Beverly Hills, and a close friend of Kyle, is in the running as well.

Sources also say it’s possible Kim will be cast or else she could be featured in sister Kyle’s scenes.

The source says: “Production officially begins in March and the cast has a 10 month commitment. Bravo is continuing with callbacks now for the remaining spots on the show.”

Kim Richards and Kyle Richards, sisters of Kathy Hilton, are also the aunts of Paris Hilton and Nicky Hilton! First Paris, then Kathy, even Nicky’s boyfriend David Katzenberg has a semi-scripted show on MTV now called “Hard Times”. It makes sense that Kathy’s sisters would follow.

Kyle Richards (born in Hollywood in 1969) is an L.A. native and is five years apart from Kim Richards (born 1964) and ten years apart from Kathy Hilton (nee Kathy Richards, born 1959).

Kyle has been on niece Paris’s two reality series The Simple Life and My New BFF. She is married to Mauricio Umansky, a realtor in Beverly Hills and Beverly Park, at Hilton and Hyland, the same place Paris’ dad Rick Hilton works.

Kim and Kyle were both accomplished actresses – here are some of my favorite credits …

Kim Richards: Escape to Witch Mountain (1975), No Deposit, No Return (1976) and Return to Witch Mountain (1978), Black Snake Moan (2006), Tuff Turf (1985), Meatballs Part II (1984), “Diff’rent Strokes” (1979), “Little House on the Prairie” (1974)

James Spader, Kim Richards and Robert Downey Jr. in"Tuff Turf"

Kyle Richards: “ER” (21 episodes, 1998-2006), “Little House on the Prairie”, Halloween (1979), and episodes of “Love Boat”, “Fantasy Island”, and “Beverly Hills, 90210″. She also played the younger version of her sister’s character in “Escape to Witch Mountain (1975)”. Both sisters were on “Disneyland.”

Kyle and her husband Mauricio Umansky were living in Bel Air near Mulholland – the home is currently for sale for $2,925,000, lowered from $3,450,000.

Lisa Todd aka Lisa Vanderpump Todd co-owns Villa Blanca in Bev Hills with her husband Kevin Todd, a British restaurateur. Lisa is/was an actress; she appeared in “Baywatch” during the mid-1990′s.

If these two are in the show, we will likely be visiting them at their really pretty home in Beverly Park. Pictures of Lisa Todd’s house in Beverly Park:

Last year, we were told the network was still deliberating over two groups of five ladies that had been selected over the summer. Bravo’s Real Housewives of Orange County was cast in much the same process – asking casting directors to develop two story-lines around two different casts – and then letting Bravo executives and producers pick between the two.

I am guessing Bravo was so amped up about the Richards sisters (who wouldn’t be!), they have been working with them to develop an agreeable storyline and maybe even cater to their schedules. Bravo has been quiet about their unexpected delay in casting and it’s almost certainly something along these lines.

The network’s call backs for those extra three spots are still happening – I’ve heard reports on that I’ve been asked not to discuss tell the cast is solidified. But just for fun, here are some hints at the contending finalists – keeping them extremely vague and will NEVER reveal those not cast unless they email me personally at caroline@dailytruffle.net and tell me it’s ok. Best of luck ladies! – add us on facebook! http://www.facebook.com/dailytruffle

1. not caucasian (out of running – name will not be revealed)

2. has lots of brothers (cast!! cant mention named – per Bravo!) *UPDATE: This was ADRIANNE!

Pre-Opening for New Club ‘Hollywood Playhouse’

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

In L.A., It’s not enough to be invited to the “opening” of a new club, in fact – that’s usually not a good thing. If you get a Grand Opening invitation in your inbox – know that you have fallen into the wrong camp! IF you are in the loop in Los Angeles, you never go to a club opening; you go to pre-openings, sneak peaks, or private events at the not-yet-opened venue. For instance, three years ago before Shag opened, I had my birthday party there with my friend Dory Benami, a friend of the owner’s, Shareen. The next night, Vanity Fair hosted a private party as well. Shag then opened the following weekend … Tonight, Alison Melnick, an L.A. promoter and celebrity wrangler, gave her birthday at the soon-to-open Playhouse. This much awaited club has promised to feature live acrobats swinging from the ceiling all night and rumor has it you can expect your bottle service waiters to jump up on tables and pull bunnies from their hats at any given moment.

Just when I thought this was too good to be true, I ran into my buddy Nico Golfar, a bit of a tech expert, who explained to me that Playhouse has another magic trick:

The club has installed a Funktion-One sound system – which uses a frequency-emitting technology to make sound waves pass through each other – as opposed to bounce off and all over the place. This has the effect of allowing voices to be heard in the club no matter how loud the volume. I was wondering why I didn’t have a headache and wasn’t annoyed despite my drunk date. I am told Playhouse is one of two club in L.A. to bother with the high priced ticket to give club-goers a superior experience. Nico, also a native Brit, went on to tell me this is very standard for clubs in New York and London, once again, defining L.A. as a culture who’s participants simply do not demand quality. A manager of the Nobu chain once told me the difference between Nobu patrons across the globe is as follows: clients in London demand quality in their food, whereas the clients at their New York locations are picky about service. And at their Malibu and La Cienega locations, he says people don’t notice either – they just want a table near the door!

The funniest moment of the evening was when the Fire Marshall came to do the usual head count – as they do every night all over Hollywood. Three acrobat vixens were entertaining a table-full of club-goers and literally – as the Fire Marshall was squeezing behind them – all three lite up Sparklers. Yes! Sparklers. It was like a fire marshall’swet dream. They demanded to see the stock where the sparklers had come from and each fireman stormed out with a couple boxes each! That surely cost club owner Rob Vinokur a pretty penny – though it’s doubtful he was aware of the obvious infringement to safety standards; I’m guessing someone else’s head rolled!

Other interesting partons of the night to attend Allison’s birthday – Casey Johnson (set to inherit the Johnson and Johnson trust), Jessica Meisels (founded of celebrity-connected Fingerprint PR), Samaire Armstron (actress, Dirty Sexy Money), David Katzenberg (son of movie producer Jeffrey Katzenberg and boyfriend of Nicky Hilton), Elliot Mintz (the on-again off-again publicist to Paris Hilton and many others) and singer Eve.

An interesting perk of the night – “Too-Faced” make-up stationed ”touch-up” booths through-out the club, and gave away cosmetics. Birthday girl Allison Melnick geting a touch-up.

Me leaving without my date - @DoryBenami is too wild for me

Ashton Kutchner’s Pop Fiction premieres in March 08

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Pop Fiction, an eight-episode series, is a prank show targeting paparazzi and gullible media outlets. It’s made with the eager help of stars, who were the laughing stocks of Kutcher’s former MTV show. This time the shoe’s on the other foot, and the series has been kept so tightly under wraps that E!’s own website fell victim to the Hilton hoax and other planted stories that producers won’t yet divulge.

“Episode 1″ Original airdate March 9, 2008 Part 1: Paris Hilton and a guru drove around Los Angeles, eating, shopping, and eventually going into a hotel. Awards Season: Oscar Week at the Chateau

My favorite part of Oscar Week was when Patrick McMullen yelled at me for not wearing fur. This only brought me closer to the boy I was dating who said he loved my Ralph Lauren puffer, and to my mother later that night who, upon hearing the story, freaked out and ordered her furs out of Saks storage.

Oscar Week in LA is kind of like riding the bus. You get off at all the stops, see the same people, get back on the bus and so forth. I heard Nick Berrgruen, a European banker whom I’ve never met, was having a good bash at the Chateau and so I went by with my buddies journalist Matt Donnelly and UK writer Christoph Hargreaves-Allen. We shim shimmied across the street from the W Magazine party at the Sunset Towers, and before that it was the SOHO house pop-up club at 9200. The on-again-off-again Vanity Fair “maybe party” did happen tho not at Morton’s and no one went. Well, ok, a few people went. I am not allowed to hang out with celebrities and producers, a rule my mother implemented when I got to high school … so the Chateau was pushing it as it was.

Here are Shell and Craig Cardon with their friend designer Monique L’Huillier and her husband. Other friends at the party were Christian Lamb, gorgeous DP to Madonna, with two sexy friends – and the ever-lovely Kimberly Bini with husband Nic, and Chris Vietor. Other guests include: Mike Bauruch, Jason Binn, Russel Simmons, Jason Pomeranc, Ben Silverman, Peter Morton, Linda Evangelista, Adrian Grenier, John Mayer, Lara Shriftman, and just to remind us what planet we’re on, the party compass herself, Paris Hilton with kid sis Nik in tow.

Dull guest list? Call the star wranglers – article from L.A. Times – April 02, 2005

By Audrey Davidow, Special to The Times
April 02, 2005

As Hollywood party pros, Joshua Richman, Shane Powers and Hartwell (just Hartwell), founders of the Alliance, have picked up a few insights into poseur behavior. They know, for example, that crashers talk too much. “They start dropping names, which is a surefire way to get us to stop listening,” says Richman, the eccentric of the group who never leaves home without his black fedora and 8-ball-capped cane. “Herbs” he calls them. As in, ” ‘Are you really going to let that ‘Herb’ in?’ “

But running some of the most ironclad events and parties in town isn’t just about knowing whom to let in and whom to keep out. It’s about getting the right people there in the first place. The self-described trio of “event strategists” are the type who have the pull to BlackBerry Keanu — and get a rapid-fire response. In Hollywood’s oversaturated social scene, where the competition for best bash, awards or charity event is fierce, they’re in high demand.

Longtime club promoters, Richman, Powers and Hartwell formed the Alliance five years ago. Though they don’t have an office and they keep the numbers unlisted, the Alliance is part of a growing niche industry in Hollywood: event coordinators who guarantee clients a cool affair for upward of $10,000 per event. This new breed of soiree specialist exists in a gray area somewhere between entertainment marketing executive and hands-on event planner.

They don’t dream up wild centerpieces or construct catwalks or even mastermind strategic seating arrangements. Instead, they’re purveyors of cool, hip-makers called on by clients such as Heineken, Sony and Dennis Publishing to secure over-the-top venues, groovy DJs and tailored guest lists.

For corporate clients looking to up the hip quotient of their brands, attaching companies such as the Alliance to a party is sort of like attaching Julia Roberts to a movie. They know how to draw a crowd — and even more important, the right crowd — by whatever means necessary, whether it’s personal persuasion, a cellphone call list to die for or even lucrative appearance fees to corral rising stars.

Inside the GM “Ten” fashion show on a recent Tuesday night in Hollywood, more than 1,500 mover-shaker-tastemakers were knocking back Stoli tonics. Outside it was pouring pellets, but the Alliance trio was too distracted to notice. “A&D are 30 seconds away,” chirped a perky young publicist, microphone in ear, clipboard in hand. Richman darted through the puddles in his Louis Vuitton Air Jordans to meet them. Ashton Kutcher hugged him, Demi Moore kissed him, and like some kind of covert-ops event specialist, he fast-tracked the power couple through the crowd and into the SkyBar-styled lounge for the cars and stars fashion show.

“They know how to have a great time,” said Kutcher from his front-row seat. “Their parties have the more substantive people — people you can actually have a conversation with, as opposed to just the eye candy.” He paused to take in the view, then added with a grin, “but they have plenty of eye candy too.”

Tom Freydl, director of Ketchum Entertainment Marketing, tapped into the trend last fall when he was faced with the challenge of promoting a Minneapolis-based computer service called the Geek Squad. Freydl hired the Alliance to make the geek-fest chic. Together with party planner Jeffrey Best, the team delivered a blowout bash at the ArcLight Cinemas with a guest list that included David Arquette, Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and a brigade of long-legged babes.

“Honestly, I had never been to a party with that level of coolness,” says Freydl. “People stayed until the very end. That never happens at a corporate event.”

Jessica Meisels knows all about coolness — and the power of celebrity. Meisels, a self-described “talent coordinator,” and her partner Greg Link are the co-owners of the publicity and events firm Fingerprint Communications. They are regularly called on by clients such as W Magazine and the Indy Racing League to utilize a Rolodex that includes everyone from philanthropist Barbara Davis (Meisels is friends with Davis’ grandson Brandon) to Paris Hilton (they’ve known each other since Meisels’ New York days).

Corporate can be hip

Pumping up corporate fetes with star power is nothing new; it’s long been an unpaid part of the PR package. But with the recent boom of weekly celeb rags and “Entertainment Tonight” rip-offs, and the free publicity they provide, it’s become a big business, one that commands up to $50,000 if you include budget for celebrity bait — gifts, transportation and charity donations in the stars’ name. Top publicity houses such as BNC (Bragman Nyman Cafarelli) regularly hire well-connected independent operators such as Fingerprint and the Alliance to jump-start their clients’ events with some trophy guests.

But those in the field bristle at the label of “celebrity wranglers” (try celebrity recruiter, liaison or even guest list manager) and fill out their job descriptions with other duties including marketing, event consulting and production.

“It just sounds so tacky,” says Ashlee Margolis, who left her PR gig two years ago to start her own wrangling business. Still, Margolis, an L.A. scenester who grew up palling around with Quincy Jones’ daughter, Rashida, and is now a go-to wrangler for the charity luncheon set, accepts that the title comes with the territory. She works out of her house and doesn’t even have a business card, but if she did, she says it would have to have a lasso on it.

“When I tell people outside of the industry what I do, they have no idea what I’m talking about. I should be working on a ranch,” she jokes. “That would make more sense.”

Semantics aside, they’re all linked by their ability to deliver the in-crowd and help their clients’ fetes stand out in an increasingly glutted market filled with ubiquitous award shows, the charity dinner du jour and competing blowout parties.

“There’s so much more competition now,” says David Pinsky, director of entertainment marketing at Motorola. “It’s no longer ‘let’s just throw a party.’ You have to make it the party that everyone’s talking about, the event of the season.”

In other words, a $300 gift bag isn’t going to cut it anymore. To attract the cranky, partied-out corps of Hollywood celebs, you need to guarantee an event’s “it” factor.

To do so, they all agree, you’ve got to ensure the right mix of people. Celebs may get you the press, but they don’t necessarily guarantee a good time. Giving good guest list is a strategic balancing act that requires just the right mix of stars, industry-ites and beautiful people, explains Meisels.

A big part of the promoting game, then, is mastering the degrees-of-separation strategy. “It’s who knows who, who can put in the personal call, who has the relationship,” says Jose Martinez, who heads up celebrity recruiting at Harrison & Shriftman, one of the few big publicity firms where all of the celeb outreach is done in-house.

If there’s no direct relationship, you work your way down. You want Nicole Kidman? Start with her pal Naomi Watts. If it’s Watts you want, invite her stylist, her trainer, her homeopath. Keeping tabs on their love lives is also key. Margolis managed to lure Charlize Theron to a charity benefit for the Aaliyah Memorial Fund last year wh
en Theron’s boyfriend, Stuart Townsend, agreed to be on the host committee. Once the connections are exhausted, it’s a matter of basic street-team tactics. Going out every night, partying like it’s their job, and spreading the word.

Yeah, but will they show?

Of course, any party thrower’s worst nightmare is that the talent won’t show. Shara Koplowitz, a former vice president at Harrison & Shriftman, narrowly averted that disaster a few years back at a party for hip-hop artist and producer Pharrell Williams at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. “We thought it was a no-brainer,” says Koplowitz, who figured Williams’ clients — among them Snoop, Puffy and Justin Timberlake — would be sure to show. But half an hour into the event, the red carpet was still as empty as a bottle of Cristal on Sunday morning, and everyone, including the Hard Rock CEO, was freaking out. Koplowitz had no choice but to start begging.

A few years earlier, she’d worked with ‘N Sync’s charity, Challenge for the Children, and hit it off with Timberlake’s bodyguard. Over the years she sent him free stuff — a bottle of Tanqueray here, a cellphone there. So when she put out the pager-plea, Big Mike responded right away. Within 15 minutes, Timberlake was at the back door. “Next thing we know, the place was packed and Justin and Busta Rhymes are on stage singing together,” recalls Koplowitz. “It was my biggest save.”

Snagging the premium A-listers — the Toms, Brads and Halles — requires a little more maneuvering. There’s always the gifting game. Come to our party and we’ll give you a PlayStation, a Cartier necklace or VW Bug. Paying them to party is another strategy. But the price tags can be steep. According to Martinez, stars of the moment, such as Eva Longoria and Teri Hatcher, have been known to command $50,000 appearance fees. Attaching a charity or creating an award in their honor, he says, is a safer, cheaper bet. Better yet? Give an award to one of their pals.

Take, for example, the time he landed Tom Cruise for Movieline’s Young Hollywood Awards

. The hook? They were honoring “Jerry Maguire” director Cameron Crowe with a role model award, and Cruise agreed to present. Was the award just a ploy to get the A-lister to commit? Martinez won’t say. “But it was the Young Hollywood awards, and let’s face it, Cruise and Crowe aren’t exactly fresh faces anymore.”

Of course, things don’t always go so smoothly. Even if a celeb says yes to the invite, there’s never any guarantee they’ll actually show. “You work and work to confirm them, and you always know that 60-70% of them aren’t even going to make it,” says Koplowitz, who retired from wrangling last year.

As frustrating as it is, the flake factor is an inevitable — and necessary — part of the game. If A-listers were actually easy to pin down, celeb recruiters would be out of a job. No one understands that better than Koplowitz, who now works on the other side of the fence as a personal publicist, playing gatekeeper for the celebs she once courted. “Now I know just how many of those invites go straight into the trash.”
