The party tonight is part of the on-going vision of LACMA director Michael Govan to incorporate the film industry in LACMA’s programming and exhibits. A possible marriage between Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art could see a dedicated film museum called the “Academy Museum of Motion Pictures“ built in the corner building of the LACMA campus (on Fairfax & Wilshire). LACMA has also been holding a screening series this fall w/ Film Independent which has hosted the world premiere of The Rum Diary, and screenings of other current hot titles like Shame and Martha Marcy May Marlene. Ticket’s to tonight’s event were purchasable starting at $5000. Stevie Wonder performed.

Weekly Juice: AFI Fest 2011 Opening Night Gala World Premiere Of “J. Edgar” at Grauman’s Chinese, LANVIN in LA, Details mag vs GQ mag parties, LACMA’s new Gala, Hollywood Reporter’s 35 under 35 fete, and more

“J. Edgar” director Clint Eastwood, daughters Alison Eastwood and Francesca Fisher-Eastwood and son Scott Reeves (who has a small role in the film), “J. Edgar” stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Josh Lucas, Ed Westwick, Naomi Watts, and Lea Thompson, Brian Grazer, Brett Ratner, execs from Warner Bros, “J. Edgar” screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk), photographer Tyler Shields, Armie Hammer (who also stars in “J. Edgar”) and his wife were all at the opening of the AFI Film Festival held in L.A. in conjunction with AFM (American Film Market) which started earlier this week down the street in Santa Monica.

The crew from this film will be together again on Saturday at LACMA for their inaugural ‘Art + Film Gala’ which celebrates Clint Eastwood, John Baldessari and the art of the moving image. Stevie Wonder is set to perform. Expected attendees include:  Clint Eastwood, John Baldessari, Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Evan Rachel Wood, Will Arnett, Kate Beckinsale, Steve Carell, Will Ferrell, Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz, W magazine editor Stefano Tonchi, Gucci’s Frida Giannini, Dasha Zhukova, Terry Semel, and more.

“J. Edgar” is in theaters November 9th, 2011.

Also out and about last night … Some of our other little truffle hunters were at the opening of ‘Smoke & Mirrors‘ at the Standard on Sunset (the reincarnation of Paul & Andres which closed last month). Paul Sevigny is on board again but not Andre Saraiva.

Christian Louboutin was in town to celebrate his new book — there was a dinner and book signing at Barneys in Bev Hills.

GQ and Guess teamed up for GQ’s November music issue party at The Sayers Club where Theophilus London headlined.

Not to be outdone, Details mag is hosting a party tonight w/ Pete Wentz’s band The Black Cards.

This weekend The Hollywood Reporter is having a party for some of our friends who made it in their NEXT GEN issue (out now) of 35 under 35 to watch — the list includes Armie Hammer, Felicity Jones, agents, managers and studio executives.

Also on for this weekend  Lanvin has arranged a special fashion show dowtown. Earlier this week, Vionnet had a private showing at Mr. Chow in anticipation of their trunk show at Saks the next day.

Leonardo DiCaprio and co-star Tobey Maguire are in Australia working on an upcoming film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. Here they are driving in a $3 million antique 1929 Duesenberg J on loan for the film from a US museum. Production begins September 5. Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher also star. Source

Universal Studios President Ron Meyer and wife Kelly Meyer hosted a soiree last night with Chanel for the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC) at their house in Malibu in Paradise Cove while 230 surfers including, Arnold’s youngest son Christopher Schwarzenegger, surf legends Dave Kalama and Laird Hamilton & wife Gabrielle Reece, Kelly Meyer and Owen Wilson formed a human peace sign in the water.
