Variety reported last week that Alliance Films, a Montreal-based distributor, made a deal to buy a John Hughes doc that features Ally Sheedy, Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson, Kelly LeBrock, Mia Sara (Sloane!), Alan Ruck (Cameron), Gedde Watanabe (the Donger!), Clerks director Kevin Smith, Juno director Jason Reitman, film critic Roger Ebert, musical band Simple Minds and more … The quirky premise behind this doc is four film students go out to find John Hughes after he disappears from the scene in 1991. They travel to his home town looking for answers and interview former actors from his films. This looks really great. A real tear jerker that will definitely take you back and we love anything to do with L.A. and Hollywood – Jason Reitman (HW ’95) talks about his own influence from John Hughes in making current teen movies like Juno and Jennifer’s Body. Kevin Smith does the same. This documentary has been done for years but the filmmakers lacked a distributor until a Canadian company stepped forward last week after John Hughes death at 59.
