I think we can all agree Brent Bolthouse + Guy Starkman is a mucccch better partnership than Brent Bolthouse + Sam Nazarian so good news for all in search of a good bar … And a big thank you for more places opening up in Beverly Hills/West Hollywood. Were glad that whole Cahuenga corridor phase is over. After a few pre-openings last week (read more about The Beverly pre-openings here), The Beverly had two back-to-back grand openings this weekend on Thursday and Saturday (the only two days they will be open for business).

The team is much the same as sister club Trousdale up the street: Brent Bolthouse, Darren Dzienciol, Guy Starkman, and Jen Rosero. Grace Fernandez will handle table service/bottle service. Brad Zeifman and Lisette Sand-Freedman‘s Shadow PR has been tapped to handle publicity. Warren, the long time manager at Jerry’s Deli, who also acted as manager at Guy’s first bar (“Guy’s,” pre-Michael Sutton era) will again be manager of The Beverly. An interesting addition is Marcel Vigneron from Top Chef who is now in-house creating liquid nitrogen concoctions you can drink. Stylist Jessica Pastor, made of the wait staff costumes for The Beverly which include Siwy hot pants and Levi’s denim. Also, there are real Saber tooth skulls above the bar … like 40 of them. It’s hard to tell they are anything more than lights, so look close! Congrats to all friends involved with this new bar.

The Beverly, the second* venture from nightlife guru’s Guy Starkman, Darren Dzienciol, Brent Bolthouse and Jen Rosero, is right on par with the newer trend of less club and more lounge … Think more relaxed NYC bar and less big LA bottle-popping club. *Trousdale was the first (The Beverly is housed in the same location as Guy Starkman’s first bar called Guy’s where Darren was also involved)

Last Wednesday, Victoria’s Secret rented out The Beverly for their second party in L.A. in two months – this time for their launch of “What is Sexy”. This comes two weeks before The Beverly’s official opening date, May 19th. Marcel Vigneron from Top Chef exercised his molecular gastronomy skillz making frozen drinks at the bar while Cake Pops were passed around to guests dancing to the beat of famed NYC DJ, Jus Ske’s drum, I mean turn tables.

Who was sexy last night? Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Erin Heatherton, Miranda Kerr (sans Orlando), Adriana Lima, Patrick Hoelck, Jake Hoffman, Jessica Paster, Ryan Phillippe, Colin Egglesfield, Nick & Sophie Simmons, Sam Plouchart, Josh Kuyt, Park Daniel, Alex Bird, Mark Hunter, Brandon Colby, Mr. Brainwash, Sabrina Daneshgar, Kirsten Kay, Lauren Brokaw, Lindsey Lerman, Mayer Hawthorne, Grace Potter without her Nocturnals, Evan Ross, Ali Fartouchi, Matt Donelly (from the L.A. The Beverly opens in the same place Guy Starkman (Beverly High) had his eponymous bar Guy’s for about a decade-ish, right next door to his parent’s restaurant, Jerry’s Famous Deli on Beverly Boulevard. The Beverly has the same basic lay out as Guy’s, but with totally different design elements.

The booths, fire place, DJ, bar and couches are all in the same spots as original Guy’s circa 2009, but this time everything feels and looks much cozier.  The difference? Exposed metal piping, recycled/reclaimed wood, hundreds of dangling light bulbs, new trees, rich brown leathers and so on. A cabin-chic vibe mixed with fine European detailing sets off this Cold War Era pharmacy-eque venue with back-to-basics design elements – as is the trend with other of our favorite hotspots Paul&Andre, Harvard and Stone, Spare Room and Thirsty Crow.

My two favorite things about The Beverly are the new industrial-chic bar and the subway-theme bathroom entrance. Gold Baroque light fixtures, dark shiny granite and a complex faucet design above the bar complete with exposed metal piping attached to the bar itself. Pristine white subway tiles now lead into the bathrooms.

Thursdays and Saturdays will be the nights to go, which sounds oh so perfect to us.

If you have been reading the Daily Truffle for a few months, you know that the subject of art in LA (or lack of it) is very important to us.

Spending a lot of my childhood in NYC, and being exposed to museums and amazing exhibits, I developed a liking for anything art related at a very early age.

I am now pleased to say that within the past few months, LA has progressed significantly.  Saturday night alone there were 2 shows focused on photographers; however we still want moreeee!

One of the forces that has helped LA’s progression is Prism Gallery on Sunset Blvd. You may remember Prism Gallery, as it played host to the after party for Moca’s 30th Anniversary Gala.

Another thing I like about is Prism is that it is the product of young minds.  The space is perfect, and I really love that in LA you can go to an exhibit opening and see a diverse crowd of young adults, heavily interested in the works.

In case you don’t already know (where have you been?), here is some info on Prism:

Located on Sunset Boulevard, Prism is housed in a three story architectural space on the western end of the Sunset Strip. The mission of the project space is to become a cornerstone of artistic experimentation, carving a new niche for the arts here in Southern California. The long-term exhibition program, featuring national and international artists, promises to be vibrant and thought-provoking as it works with creative minds to cultivate a challenging and diverse aesthetic experience for the public. The space will also look to integrate lectures and film viewings to create a well-rounded multidisciplinary venue. Alongside the exhibition space, the project space will also house a bookshop with a curated selection of texts and products.

Saturday night, before the nights festivities, including The Weinstein Company‘s party, at the new Soho House, and 2nd night of Trousdale Lounge, my friend, Rachel Chapnik, and I went to check out Nobuyoshi Araki‘s new exhibit at Prism Gallery on Sunset Blvd (put on by Nadine Johnson and Associates).

Nobuyoshi Araki’s: A Perspective, is a veryyyy interesting and thought provoking exhibit of 70 photographs spread across 2 floors.  While the subject of these photos may be too risque, others will thoroughly enjoy them and take a lot away from the experience.

Nobuyoshi is Japan’s most controversial and well known photographer, who has recently shot Lady Gaga in his signature bondage style for Vogue Homme, and counts singer, Bjork, as one of his biggest fans.

I like how Araki took something that is “taboo” and made it so artistic, real, and in some cases beautiful, as if to say not everything of this nature is wrong or perverse, etc.  Yes, there were some images that were hard to look at, but I appreciated the work, detail, and thought that went into all of them.

I say real because most of the pictures were not airbrushed, so stretch marks, cellulite, veins, and other imperfections were visible.

The photos that were in color were amazing, in both bright and vibrant and soft and pale colors.  It became clear that Araki paid very close attention to shadows and highlights.

Guests drank white white, beer, Coco Vita, and other refreshments.

After, most of us headed to Trousdale, where I saw a lot of friends, and everyone drank and danced the night away !

A few on going trends Rachel and I noticed throughout the night:

Most people wore all black

5 or 10 attendants sported a 90s grunge look

About 15 percent of the chic guests had their jeans/pants rolled up in a 50s sort of flood pant style

This intriguing large glass structure had hundreds of small pictures spaced evenly in the middle of the 1st floor of the gallery.  The presence of the photo mural as a whole was strong but when you got in closer, each picture was so different and very detailed.  The photos were of all different genres,I’m guessing an accumulation of Araki’s work over time.

Los Angeles nightlife and restaurateurs Guy Starkman with Darren Dzienciol, Brent Bolthouse and Jenifer Rosero are finalllyyy set up to open the highly anticipated Trousdale, a new lounge on the cusp of both Beverly Hills and West Hollywood on Sunset.

Trousdale lounge is located at 9229 Sunset Blvd., (formerly Blowfish Sushi) which is in good company, across from Boa Steakhouse and The Soho House, which is hosting Oscar parties throughout the weekend and officially opens May 8th.

Trousdale comes to us as a result of Guys being sold in May of 2009, and Brent and Jen looking for new adventures since their days with Sam have come to a close. Brent is now calling his new bar Trousdale “This generation’s Hyde.” The name Trousdale comes from the neighborhood north of the bar called Trousdale Estates (Jennifer Aniston, Ringo Starr, Prince and Paul Allen have homes here).

After seeing the beautiful transformations Brent & Jen and Guy & Darren have done in their respective pasts, I was very curious to know what style/theme they were going to go for with this new ultra lounge.

“The intimate Trousdale interior features dark wood, marble pillars and oversized booths finished with silver leather. The focal point of the property is the main bar, framed by elaborate silver and gold moldings and decorated with a dark marble bar top, mirrored panels along the sides and an intricate mosaic pattern. Another key design element is the lavish chandelier, which runs the length of the main room.

Reasons Lauren has to be excited:
1. I live exactly two blocks west and down the street from Trousdale lounge.
2. I love the name because I lived in Trousdale for most of my life (I guess that means I am sentimental :-/ )
3. Who wants to always drive deep into Hollywood just to go out, see friends, and get a drink?
4. I spent the better part of a few years at Hyde and was very unhappy when my “second home” was disbanded, now I hope to have a new second home with this new team !
5. Many of my favorite nights out have been due to a club or event that Bolthouse or the Guy’s team has master minded, so I am looking forward to new favorite times. This is Brent and Jen’s first collaboration since ending partnership with SBE, and I can think of no other group I’d rather them join.
6. Without naming names or sounding crazy, I am happy to start seeing some people who actually have style and will dress up a bit again… the arts and crafts, “I can dress weirder than you” trend has not been a favorite of mine and I’ll be happy to see it dissipate.

Bardot celebrates one year anniversary with Perry Farrell Performaing “Jane Says” to intimate group. Congratulations to our friends at Bardot – Alexi Yulish, Stephanie Fessler and Jason Scoppa.

The relationships Jason Scoppa and Alexi Yulish have fostered with Hollywood club-goers and famous musicians has changed nightlife in Hollywood. Bardot promoter Jason Scoppa pitched Bardot owner John Lyons the concept to turn the VIP club atop Avalon nightclub in Hollywood into the first ever no-cover live music venue for celebrities to play intimate sets to hand-picked crowds of friends, peers and other Hollywood insiders.While Jason gets the celebrity bands and solo acts, Alexi works on the crowd – and this crowd is just about the best anyone can get – after all, I was there. My friends at Bardot know how to throw a party and always make me and all their friends and guest feel so welcome. It is truly like having a family when you venture out into the night – One big happy Hollywood family. Jason made that official this summer when he married his girlfriend, Stephanie Fessler, who he met while working together at Green Door and who left with him when the John Lyons and Steve Adelman opened up Bardot a year ago.

Bardot provides singers and DJ the opportunity to preform for crowds they may not otherwise reach in a more personalized atmosphere. a completely different experience without the usual fans, groupies and creepy backstage parties. It’s a completely different experience free of the usual fans and groupies. At Bardot, you might have a drink and talk music with Prince or Macy Gray when they are done with a set. Ryan Gosling and Sam Sparro are regular performers here too. Music lovers of the chic variety love Bardot for their commitment to deliver good musicians and a gorgeous crowd. Thank God for Guy Starkman (Beverly High). Back in my day, Guy was the one to know. He co-owned Jerry’s Deli with his brother Jason and mother Carolyn, but Guy was always up to something in the nightlife business as well. He turned Jerry’s into a celebrity hang, and started a weekly party at Starky’s which was in the Beverly Center.

Today he co-owns Guy’s on Beverly Blvd, next to Jerry’s, with his partner Darren Dzienciol. They recently sold restaurateur and promoter Michael Sutton (Goa, Xenii, Lodge) the lease and liquor license for a period of time. They still own the name and the building, and have taken the party to The Luau on Friday and Saturday nights all this summer. You can count on this being a celeb-packed, L.A., upper-crust crowd every Fri & Sat all summer. Go if you can.

New “Guys & Dolls Lounge” creator Michael Sutton has leased the space and liquor lisense from Guy & Darren for an undisclosed period of time.

Tyson Park (Loyola High School ’96) told me the daughter of Steve Crane (and his former wife Lana Turner) comes in to the new version all the time loves it! She says her father would not have done a thing differently. That is about the best approval these new owners could seek.
