Lou Adler, original producer of RHPS, is father to two LA natives, Nic and Cisco Adler.  The announcement of Jack Nicholson was surprising to some, but Lou and Jack sit together at most of the Laker Games, so this paring made great sense to me.  Jack said he would do this for Lou, as long as it did not interfere with his Lakers schedule.

LET’S DO THE TIME WARPPP AGAINNNNN, back to 35 Years ago, to a time when Rocky Horror Picture Show was not the King of midnight cult films.

….Back to when Tim Curry was just a sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania.

This film set oh so many precedents, not to mention being in distribution longer than any film in the history of movies.

I LOVE this film, because of its elaborate makeup/wigs/costumes (done by David Bowie’s previous costumer), and then the amazing soundtrack, cast, EVERYTHINGGGG, except for the story line, which I still can’t really comprehend.

Cut to The 35th Anniversary Event at The Wiltern theater in Los Angeles, on Thursday, October 28th, 2010. Hundreds of adoring fans came out to see their favorite celebs perform, in their Halloween best.  Ms. Jackie Singer and I obvi did not get the memo about dressing up… :- /

This spectacular show was directed by Kenny Ortega (High School Musicals and Michael Jackson’s This Is It), produced by Lou Adler (who brought the Rocky Horror to the US in the 70s) and Kevin Duncan in UNDER 7 days, to benefit The Painted Turtle Foundation.

Placed on all the chairs of people with ‘All Excess’ passes, were black plastic bags that came with all the necessary props to interact with the audience and the film. A Newspaper, rice, playing cards, a party hat, mini flashlight, and more came with a directions sheet on when to use what.  I must admit that a huge smile came over my face when I noticed that everyone was putting their newspaper on their head, as directed by Susan Sarandon and Barry Botswick in the original film, during the rainy scene in the beginning.

After the performance,  a costume ball took place in the lobby for vip guests, with a performance by Lucent Dossier on the stage.  Decorations, potion tables, a band, and many stations of food catered by Wolfgang Puck awaited the freakish crowd.

“It might be a little tamer at 8 than at midnight, But it will be unlike anything anyone’s seen because it’s so three-dimensional. We’re showing the film. The shadow cast will be pantomiming on stage. Celebrities will come on and sing. We’ve got 900 fans in the balcony who’ll be shouting and surely will have snuck in some toast and rice. It will be an appropriate celebration of 35 years of a cult classic.” – Mr. Adler

The Painted Turtle is a year round camp for terminally and chronically ill children that was founded in 1999, by Paul Newman and Page Adler, in Lake Hughes, California. Painted Turtle website

Creatures of the night, transvestites from Transylvania, and performers included:  Julian McMahon (Dr. Frank-N-Furter), Danny Devito (Criminologist), Matthew Morrison, Jorge Garcia, Melora Hardin (Columbia), Nicole Scherzinger, Lucas Grabeel (Rif Raff), Jamie Gertz, George Lopez, with an appearance by the ORIGINAL Dr. FRANK-N-FURTER, TIM CURRY !!!! Burt Bacharach, Daryl Hannah, and Ricki Lake were also in attendance. The majority of the reenacted scenes were performed by very talented people, whose names I do not have.

To add to the family experience parties were being extra sensative to the needs required for desert survival!

• Lacoste gave plenty of sunblock to guests coming into the pool party, and flashlights on the way out. They also stocked the party full of food and fruit popsicles for vitamins and anti-oxidants replenishment!
• Brent Bolthouse had walls of Brita water coolers and cups lining the entire entrance & exit to his air hanger carnival along with tons of food from Chipotle, Fatburger & Moose munch.
• Bing shuttles took inebriated and tired guests back to their hotels from the midnight oasis in the desert.
