Chanel debuts sporting line

Pink Chanel quilted dumbbells? Who knew!!!

Besides the Chanel bike, I had no clue Chanel made all this sports equipment ! (La Native, David Arquette, bought two Chanel bikes, one for his daughter, and one for his wife, Courtney Cox Arquette.)

I’d learn to surf, just to take one of those killer surf boards into the water!

While each of these items will cost a pretty shiny penny, you will at least venture into your selected sport knowing that you look amazing (even if you are out of shape and un-athletic, like me!)

Uncle Karl cares.

(And no, I wouldn’t actually buy any of these (unless they were reasonably priced) because they are impractical, and more of art to me than items to use for sports.)

UPDATE: The best designer shoots from ‘PRE Fall 2010′ – VALENTINO, Stella McCartney, Lanvin, Proenza, Giambattista Valli, Nina Ricci, Michael Kors, Celine

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

UPDATE: VALENTINO AND STELLA MCCARTNEY

The 8 best photo shows from Pre Fall 2010

Unfortunately, I really disliked most of the Pre Fall looks from 2010. I never thought that there would be a Chanel or Givenchy show that I wouldn’t foam at the mouth for, but it happened! While I had distain for most of the shows, the 6 shoots from these designers were absolutely amazing in every way!

To save you from having to look through all of the shows (It was almost slow and painful), I have gone through and chosen the looks that I think were the best.

Ah. So after going through most of the shows and feeling angst, these two really showed me the light at the end of the tunnel.

Most designers don’t have shows for their Pre Fall 2010 collections, instead they usually just take pictures of the model infront of a white background or some color for the brands look book.

*Lanvin’s creativity with these shots really put me in awe, more than usual. I throughly enjoyed it all; Hair styles, makeup, rich colors, panty hose, shoes (over $1,500 I’m sure), silhouettes, poses, etc. This was the most detailed and fun of all of the Pre Fall shoots.

*Proenza’s collection reminded me of a trendy and sophisticated East Coast prep school (I wouldn’t reference Gossip Girl). After viewing these photos, I really wanted to go back to high school or college and rock these amazing prep-ster looks. I was also veryyy happy, because I saw that they used my fav new thing, silky black ankle socks! I shall definitely be scouting the stores this Summer for looks similar to these.

* Hello Gorgeous! Giambattista Valli’s Pre Fall is simply to die for. I found it interesting how a lot of the clothes could of looked dowdy , or made for an elderly woman, but Mr. Valli took what could of been and made it oh so chic, edgy, sharp, clean, and brilliant. Def a different look than his usual party dresses. I keep getting a sense that this girl (the model) was in her mothers closet, trying on her clothes and then altered them for herself. The uniformity of these pictures is just great, the black tights, severe pony tail, same style shoes, consistent poses, etc. The model he used was a perfect choice, HOWEVER, I am not sure if these clothes on the rack or on someone not “super model” quality would look as chic and edgy, but way to marry different styles and fabrics.

* Nina Ricci Pre Fall 2010 = Pretty. Boy, is this a turn around from Mr. Theysken’s reign. Some of the pieces reminded me of The Great Gatsby, and some reminded me of the 1940s. This shoot felt very whole some and sweet to me, no hint of the outlandish sexy looks we are used to seeing on the runway. Super cute, love the model and her red lips!

* Michael Kors did a great job for Pre Fall. This collection was great because it was young, classy, and current (not tacky or old lady ish). This should be a good move for MK, because these designs are very versatile for women of many ages, and look like they would be very flattering. I enjoyed a lot of the bold colors he used, like the red fur coat and dress. P.s. I have NEVER been a fan of Mr. Kors.

* I LOVE Phoebe Philo, so I obvi always have to check up on her. Celine has not been very popular for the past few years, but I really think Phoebe could bring it back, just like she brought Chloe back. I look very forward to her future with Celine.

TRUFFLES OF NEWS:

Ms. Gevinson, age 13.

♥ @Grazia_live took this picture at the Dior Spring Summer 2010 haute couture fashion show, this last Monday, January 25th, 2010 and twitter to Grazia readers worldwide: “not happy to watch couture through 13 year old Tavi’s hat”. Tavi defended herself on her blog saying: “I had no intentions of blocking the views of people behind me but it didn’t block any views-I’m SHORT, so watching the show behind me would be like watching it through a regular-sized adult, but better, because adult heads do not have holes in them. Other than the stinky cheese man, from that one book, from like, second grade, or something. My dad was sitting next to the Grazia writer that tweeted this picture and said there shouldn’t have been any problems in seeing the clothes, but I’m pretty sure she or he was joking, anyway?”.

Birthdays today: Grace Fernandez, Daisy Lowe (daughter of Pearl Lowe and Gavin Rosdale, Moses Farrow, Lisa Love (Editor of Teen Vogue), Narcisco Rodriguez, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Steve Wynn (Hotel Mogul), and my grandpa, Edward Longley.

This weeks couture lineup in Paris, France has so far been:

January 25th – Alexis Mabille, Anne Valerie Hash, Christian Dior

January 26th – Armani Prive, Chanel, Givenchy

January 27th – Ellie Saab, Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier

♥ The Victoria & Albert museum is hosting an exhibit on Grace Kelly with Van Cleef & Arpels. Grace’s dresses and jewels from 1960 and 1970 will be on display from April 17th 2010- September 26th 2010.

♥ Awww Ugly Betty has been cancelled :(

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen announced Tuesday that they’ll be putting on their first-ever fashion show next month, but that isn’t their only big story this week. The Row’s new Web site went live today. Created in collaboration with Matthew Daniel Siskin of designedmemory, the interactive design studio behind Chris Benz, Genevieve Jones, and Albertus Swanepoel’s sites, the new therow.com is as subtly cool as one of the designer sisters’ $250 Supima cotton jersey short-sleeved T-shirts. In fact, the site’s different backgrounds are full-frame images of fabrics from the collection. It’s not set up for e-commerce just yet, but the Olsens assure us that it will be by late summer, in time to sell their Fall collection. MK and Ashley get techy with us below. – Style.com

♥ Frida Giannini, Gucci, has announced that she wants to start a couture collection for Gucci, but in Milan, not Paris.

♥ Want to know what Obama’s plans are for the US? Tune into the State of the Union address tonight.

Karl Lagerfeld is apparently building something on an island in Dubai, and to make this situation more weird, Victoria Beckham might be designing a hotel for this island. Dubai has an island that is fashion themed called, Isla Moda… interesting. Armani is opening its first design hotel in Dubai March 18th and Ellie Saab plans t open his hotel next year (part of the Tiger Woods Dubai resort, Al Ruwaya), this is so weird to me ! What will it be called? Lager Land, Karl Kove, Lake Lagerfeld?

Nick Knight, owner of ShowStudio.com , will be working with Rodarte and Alexander Wang for Fashion Week 2010 in Nyc February during Feb. Nick was the man responsible for Alexander Mcqueen’s backdrop during his alien-ish show during Spring Summer 2010 fashion show.

♥ There will be a big tribute to Michael Jackson this Sunday at the Grammys. Michael’s kids are rumored to show up for this.

♥ Santa Barbara native, Cameron Douglas, 31, son of Michael Douglas, confessed to dealing coke and meth last year in NYC. He is looking at a minimum of 10 years in jail.

Paris, France: First Christian Dior couture show of the new decade

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

John Galliano for Christian Dior Couture show, January 25th, 2010

The ultimate “dress up”,  the stuff I live for!

Haute Couture = French for “high sewing” or “high dressmaking” refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing.  It is made to order for a specific customer, and it is usually made from high-quality, expensive fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail and finish, often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques.

Many top designer fashion houses, such as Chanel, use the word for some of their special collections. These collections are often not for sale or they are very difficult to purchase.

To earn the right to call itself a couture house and to use the term haute couture in its advertising and any other way, members of the Chambre syndicale de la haute couture must follow these rules:

  • Design made-to-order for private clients, with one or more fittings.
  • Have a workshop (atelier) in Paris that employs at least fifteen people full-time.
  • Each season (i.e., twice a year), present a collection to the Paris press, comprising at least thirty-five runs/exits with outfits for both daytime wear and evening wear. – Wikipedia

“I wanted to be considered a good craftsman,” wrote Christian Dior of his spring 1947 debut collection. “I wanted my dresses to be constructed like buildings, molded to the curves of the female form, stylizing its shape.” – Christian Dior

It’s Couture time in Paris, YAY!!! While I am very sad that Christian Lacroix (the design house caught the recession flu, and died) will not be presenting this year, I am still ecstatic to have the other designers.

I came to the conclusion today that John Galliano’s magnificent gowns are my favorite thing about the Couture shows.  The reason I love them so much is because they are so magical, unlike anything I have ever seen.. they remind me of so many different eras, eras I would of loved to have lived in. After years of witnessing this magic, the intrinsic work of the couture shows still amazes me.

When I was five, I knew I wanted to be in the design world, because my favorite thing to do was to play dress up and play with my Barbie’s clothes.  By age 7, I was drawing clothing catalogues – one outfit for every month of the year.  Fairy tales and royal gowns were a great inspiration to me, and still are, hence why I love ball gowns from any era.  Some of these couture shows, along with David Bowie’s fashions and other looks from the 60s and 70s, and costume designers like Milena Canonero and Colleen Atwood, really fuled me to go to fashion design school.

It also fascinates me that these gowns are hand sewn by professional couturiers and take weeks to make.  Can you imagine sitting for HOURS a day/weeks hand sewing little tedious seed beads onto a huge gown?  Often times multiple woman will work on the same dress, beading and stitching together.

When I was younger, I did not understand why design houses wanted to spend tons of money and time on a hand sewn gown that would just be sent down the runway for less than five minutes, and then put into the archives.  The older I grew, the more I appreciated these shows and saw them as the true art form that they are.

Today, an estimated 200 women buy regularly from the Paris couture, where a Chanel suit takes 150 hours to make, requires three fittings, and, with a smattering of embroidery by the fabled Lesage, can edge toward a $100,000 price tag (elaborate evening gowns can soar beyond that figure). A best-selling Chanel suit may be ordered by ten or fifteen clients, though chez Lacroix, for instance, only one model of each evening dress is sold per country. Guiding them in their choices are the vendeuses, or salesladies, who, with their directrice de la couture, coordinate the client’s requirements with the fitter and her seamstresses to make them a reality. This relationship “is a question of trust,” says Dior’s ineffably chic directrice, Catherine Rivière. “You need to know her body,” adds Raffaele Ilardo, Dior’s head tailor. “She knows you know every fault and every quality. It’s like being her doctor!” -Vogue

I can think of a few women who live in LA who collect couture clothing, and by collect I mean not just buying one or two pieces per season ;-)

The deets:

♥This Dior couture show was held at the Dior mansion on the Avenue Montaigne in Paris, France.

♥ Makeup was done by Path Mcgrath (that was a given) and hats by another given, Stephen Jones.  Only in my dreams do I ever see such amazing hair and cool makeup.  This is why I love couture shows, you would never see detailed crazy hair and makeup like this on a runway in New York.  These looks are such a fantasy world for me.

♥”It: models: Karlie Klass, Chanel Iman, Anja Rubik, Iris Strubegger, Kasia Struss, Siri Tollerod (one of my favorites), Vlada Roslyakova, Maryna Linchuk, Heidi Mount, Magdalena Frackowiak, Liu Wen walked the runway.

♥ Front row guests were Pierre Cardin, Dita Von Teese, Kylie Minogue, Peter Marino, Helene de Fougerolles, Maggie Cheung, and Nora Arnezeder.

♥ This show reminded me of Marlene Dietrich, Millicent Rogers, Mae West, Eliza Doolittle from My Fair Lady, Mary Poppins, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, PollyAnna, and the original “The Women”.

This was a different type of Dior couture show for me, because there was obvious sections of the show: day, day + afternoon, night, occasion for a ball gown, etc.  The different styles that stuck out to me were, the turn of the century equestrian look, kind of like Mary Poppins or like “I’m going to the stables or going to watch a fox hunt but not participate”,  followed by a kind of ‘My Fair Lady’ I’m wealthy and beautiful and must look good on my Sunday best look, then followed by a dramatic screen siren style with lots of satin, and finally the exqusite ball gowns that we all know and love.

It’s all Disney’s fault.
(RIP Roy Disney, he died today, December 16th, 2009)

My favorite thing to read everyday is New York Magazine’s: The Cut. While doing my daily reading, I came across this new post about Anna Wintour as Anna Wintermouse and Karl Lagerfeld as a mouse. My face instantly lit up and I believe the words that came out of my mouth were, ” Ahhhhh omfg, this is the cutest thing ever.” Chanel + Mice = me with a huge smile! It was at this time that I decided the fair and beloved readers of the Daily truffle needed to see this !

Amy Odell, writer for The Cut, says in this post, ” However the whole thing gives us an idea: an animated feature like Ratatouille but with mice doing fashion things, like going to Mice Fashion Week, instead of food thing.” I think I should send this article to John Lasseter, head of Disney Pixar :) (I have a major Disney obsession)

I showed this adorable article to a friend and she was less than amused.  I began to ponder why I have such a thing for cute mice….. and then it hit me: Ever since I can remember, there have been mice in compromised situations and I have always wanted to help them, be it real life or animated films slash books.

When I was around seven, I told my mother that when I grew up I was going to buy all the pet stores in the world so that people could not buy mice to feed to their pet snakes….that or just kill snakes worldwide (If you have read previous articles of mine you know I HATE snakes.)

Aw !

Aw !

My dad and sister hate all rodents (Caroline does too).  A few weeks after we moved into our new house, many years ago, my mom saw a rat in our backyard and my dad called his realtor because he wanted to move (We did not move).  My dad has a strange man named “George (Horhay) ” who comes to our house and changes various mouse traps… This upsets me every time.  To this day, I still buy my dad rubber rats that squeak, toy mice for cats, and mice that you pull a string and they run around the room, just to bother him :)

I have always loved these adorable little creatures because of the movies I have seen over the span of my twenty four years; I have always wanted to help them out of there scary situations.

Trend Report: Masks for Fall – Chanel, Valentino & Gaultier

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare
Since Vogue China doesnt think it’s too late to talk about hot fall items – I am going to TOO! One thing I noticed and LOOOOOVED on the catwalks for the fall shows were all the masks! I particularlly saw some from Jean Paul Gaultier Ready to Wear, Chanel couture and Valentino couture. The ideal time to have discussed this would have been around Halloween but perhaps we can look to New Years parties as a possible time to debut your new lacey face.

Robertson Boulevard’s new makeover: Love or Hate it?

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Robertson Boulevard is growing right before our eyes ! Is this for better or for worse?? If you haven’t been by paparazzi row aka. Robertson Blvd. recently you are in for a surprise (not sure wether this a good or bad one). Let me break it down:

Agnes B was the first store to move off this famous street, Shortly after, an avalanche of new stores opened and older stores closed.

American Apparel, Madison, and Diavolina have all moved out of their former spaces to different locations on Robertson and Third Street in the past few months.

All Saints, from England, opened doors to their first store in the United States today and will be adding a Malibu store in the next few months. This is the former space of Agnes B. ADDRESS: 100 North Robertson

Splendid on Robertson is the first actual Splendid store in the world. The full Splendid line will be available here: Splendid Mills, Splendid Mills Jr., Splendid Girl, Splendid Littles, and the main collection, Splendid. ADDRESS: 111 South Robertson

Moods of Norway has made its home in the old Madison boutique; This is the US flagship for this company. ADDRESS: 113 South Robertson

Beach Bunny swimwear wants you to look hot in bikini, they are not opened yet, but will be ready for business soon. ADDRESS: 136 South Robertson

North of Melrose and Robertson is home to the new and beautifully designed Christian Louboutin LA flagship store. Across the street there is a 3.1 Phillip Lim store; Danger, Danger ! If you are ever in a rush and need a whole outfit, this is your street !!! ADDRESS: CL, 247 South Robertson Blvd.., PL, 631 N. Robertson Blvd.

In the past two years, Robertson has welcomed Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Dolce and Gabbana, Rock and Republic, Vince, The now closed David Alexander, True Religion, Reiss, Intermix, and Seven Jeans. I laughed when I heard that Seven Jeans and Rock in Republic were being built right across the street from each other and True Religion down the street… Way to put pressure on the customer buying jeans !
Les Habitudes, The Ivy, Maxfield’s, Cuvee (best food in the area; Yes, I like it more than The Ivy), and Curve aren’t going to leave us high and dry anytime soon. Kitson, with four boutiques on two blocks, is still alive and kicking.

Pop Ups – The future of shopping?

A few smart retailers have started to open different “Pop Up” stores around LA. This idea is great for a company that wants to showcase their diffusion line, or who cannot fully invest in the real estate, due to the economy.

No stranger to collaborations, Stella McCartney, has paired with Gap to house a Baby Gap/ Gap Kids store on Robertson, next to Intermix. Stella has already guest starred for such brands as H&M and Adidas. Prices range from $14-$128. ADDRESS: 108 North Robertson Blvd.

The inspiration behind the Carousel of Hope Ball, Dana Davis, has a pop up shoe store on Melrose Place, the former Lambertston Truex. Dana, A LA Native, has had many problems with being able to find the right shoes after having many surgeries on her feet, which have been affected heavily by her diabetes. She has come up with a vast line of fashionable shoes that are comfortable and that can be worn for hours. This pop up closes December 3rd. ADDRESS: 8459 Melrose Place

Rachel Pally, Queen of the jersey dress, has finally enlightened us with her first store (It’s just a pop up, but we will take what we can get from her). She will be there once a week to meet customers and offer helpful fashion advice. ADDRESS: 465 South La Brea

I’m sure I will have more stores to report on, as Melrose past La Cinega currently has eight or so store’s for lease….

Dear Topshop, if you can hear me, Pleaseeee GET YOURSELF TO Los Angeles !!! Thanks, Lauren :)

Chanel to debut first in-house magazine called “31 Rue Cambon”

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

I am secretly ecstatic about this, why you ask? Any chance to see what Karl conjures up for Chanel makes me oh so giddy! This work of art (a magazine) was named, 31 Rue Cambon, after the first Chanel boutique in Paris, France.

Mr. Lagerfeld designed this magazine with art direction by Olivier Zahm (A name you need to know because he is not going away; He is writing French Vogue’s editrix, Carine Roitfeld’s book, and heads Purple Magazine).

Our first look into this new venture was from Olivier himself via his website www.purple-diary.com

Karl Lagerfeld, Lara Stone, Baptiste Giabiconi

No date is set in “stone” (diamond to be exact ;-) yet, but expect to see this soon in Chanel stores worldwide. I will try to not hold my breath. Karl’s muse, model Baptiste Giabiconi, will be featured as well as *Lara Stone and Fendi/Chanel fav Freja Beha Erichsen (pictured left, she hasn’t modeled in Paris for a year or two now..Don’t know why!)

*The cover girl for December 2009 edition of Vogue UK is out of rehab and back to work! Lara tells Vogue that men don’t like her and that she has just started a club with a girlfriend called “We Hate Men But We Can’t Be Gay Club”. Does she want me to feel sorry for her?)

Trend Report: Jade Green Nail Polish by Chanel

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare
Finally Chanel has released their new Jade Chanel color. This looked great on the catwalk last spring but we’ve had to wait til now to buy it. Unless you were a model or stylist in the show. My little sister Jaclyn has been wearing a version of Mint by OPI since then and now we can actually go straight to the source and buy at Chanel boutiques, Selfridges, London and Neiman Markus, Beverly Hills.
We hear Rachel Zoe loves Jade by Chanel while the jury is out for Nicly Hilton who twitters “Can’t tell if I like this polish color or its weird”. We feel pretty good about it, Rachel Bilson wore it in a recent magazine shoot, and model/ex girlfriend of the late DJ AM, Jessica Stam says: “I love it. Nail polish completely sold out in like 2 days!” There is even a wait list to buy it at the Neiman’s in Dallas!

Chanel Happy Meals? New ad campaign cuts modeling cost.

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Chanel’s new gauche McDonald’s ad campaign is a sign of recession – photo shoots without models equals ads that won’t trickle down to your pocketbooks. It’s not like they’re working with Carol Bouquest or Catherine Deneuve anymore anyway – but geez – what are they saying? Double C’s are the new Golden Arches? My mother made me promise to not say anything positive about this ad seen only in Europe – but I must admit there is something about Chanel packaging that always makes me coo.
