We also heart shoes and Alice+Olivia so didn’t need much prompting when it came to Stacey Bendet’s soiree for her new shoe collection (yes, they have shoes now). Platforms, wedges and heels hung from a tree like Christmas but forget the pine needles and bring on the fleurs – that’s french for flowers, don’t you know. Face paint, gift bags and the DJ-violinist duo of Caitlin Moe and Mia Moretti completed the much expected chic night out.

A little lesser known gem to those in know is the Petit Ermitage Hotel not to be confused with the big L’ermitage on Burton Way. This golden truffle is located in a secretive residential enclave and is the home to many a chic soiree whose hostesses have tired of the usual venue drills. Last night, Emily Current and Meritt Elliott (both of Current/Elliot) had a dinner party to show off the collection they are now doing with Kate Spade called Westward. At the dinner were Gia Coppola, Jaime King, Michelle Trachtenberg, Sasha Spielberg, Zelda Williams and Emma Roberts.

To be sure, there was quite to appreciate and fawn over in the newly opened Vivenne Westwood boutique on Melrose Wednesday evening, hosted by Dame Vivienne Westwood making a rare L.A. appearance with husband Andreas Kronthaler. It’s easy to forget the impact Dame Viv has had in fashion, which is why it’s lucky we Angelenos can now experience her wizardry in all it’s glory and try on those yummy wares as well … !

Unofficial Westwood Ambassador Dita Von Teese commanded the red carpet in a full length classic ensemble complete with gloves and top hat, and boyfriend Louis Marie de Castelbajac (son of designer Jean Charles de Castelbajac). Wining and dining guests, shoppers, supporters and devotees of Project Angel Food were out in full force Wednesday evening to kick off another Divine Design week of fundraising that includes slashed down merchandise from fashion and housewares to beauty products (yummy scented candles and Kate Sommerville face products are big faves). It’s become somewhat of a tradition to meet Lily Collins and her mom during this portion of the evening as we scope out the best deals that we know are not going to last! (I spy gorg kellim rugs and red coral …). Off in our golf carts to join the rest of the crowd at the Bevery Hilton Ballroom for cocktails and dinner … Booth Moore, Cameron Silver, Darren Star, Brooks Brothers’s Arthur Wayne, Jennifer Egan, Allison Blumenfeld, Craig and Shell Cardon – it was like a locals only reunion of sorts!

Fashion Woman of the Year Kelly Osborne was gracious and lovely before a show by Brooks Brothers Black Fleece Spring 2011 collection that was introduced by that ubiquitous Brad Goreski (looking super cute in stripes head to toe!). The liveliest part of the evening was owed to the Live Auction apre dessert when bidders raised their hands for NYC and Paris getaways and Grammy Awards VIP tickets … every one at our table #03 was on their feet for additional donations; the spirit of the evening was infectious! Gilt Group Market Director Jennifer Keegan hosted our tablemates that included my date Tracee Ellis Ross doing her stylish rendition of the 40′s femme fatale…dots ,loose curls and red lips … perfection! A well spent night meeting new faces and giving back a little to a great organization.

Earthbar is opening a new location at Equinox Century City – for those of you who love Earth bar in West Hollywood – but work at the Deathstar, ICM or Fox in Century City , u now have your own! Opens next week

THIS IS A HAPPENING! I consider a great LA night when a convergence of local talent is pooled to create a memorable shared experience; last night MOCA delivered … IN SPADES! After the red carpet and cocktail hour where I never quite made it into the exhibit titled ‘The Artist’s Museum’, organized by Rebecca Morse (then again, I didn’t make it to the exhibit last year as well….); guests proceeded into the tent that was erected in the middle of Grand Avenue downtown LA for the MOCA Winter Gala envisioned by artist Doug Aitken. Rachel Bilson, Chloe Sevigny, Mila Kunis, Elodie Bouchez, Kate Bostworth, Peter Marino, Kristen Dunst, Ginnifer Goodwin … flanked by their publicists and BFF’s at the Chanel table, Chanel fine jewelry being a sponsor for the evening; needless to say plenty of sprarkly bobbles and lace abounded at the longest table in the room.

And about that room … Mr. Aitken interactive aspirations for the evening carried over into the decor of the tent; the walls were painted in a geometric black /white pattern which gave the illusion that the walls were in fact three dimensional.

Also on the walls hung poster art contributed by Bruce Nauman, Raymond Pettibon, Alexis Smith, Laura Owens and several others. I loved the light sculptor that hung above us amidst ‘exposed’ white piping which was also patterned in geometry, designed by architect Barbara Bestor.

There was a bit of eating in between socializing among the many who’s who in the room … my favorite union I dubbed the Grey Table/ #51; not only for the fact that our former Governor Davis was at the helm, but his fellow table mates included Ed Ruscha, super star architect Frank Gehry and their respective partners-all silver haired!

Plenty of artists were in attendance and what a treat to be in their company … Jeff Koons, Roson Crow, Liza Lou, Mike Kelley, John Baldesarri and Catherine Opie - WOW!

Opening remarks by our lovely hostess Maria Bell were followed by new MOCA director Jeffrey Deitch (tho he did attend last year’s gala he was not yet ‘officially’ posted); who introduced performer Devendra Banhart, Beck and Caetano Veloso - who ever brought this talent together on the same stage is genius! They alone left us all swooning …

But wait folks there’s more!

Onto the live art work by Doug Aitken titled WE, which included: farm auctioneers, drummers, the LA Gospel Choir and my ‘ultimate cherry on the top’; a cattle whipper …

Strategically mapped throughout the room; we had pistol quick bidding by the auctioneers, thumping rhythm courtesy of the dozens of Tabla drummers, and chorus splendor by the Choir all in tandem requiring the audience to follow the performance in the fashion of a tennis match!

The grand finale was worth the wait for sure; but first I must share a childhood memory that accounts for my great enthusiasm for this particular piece … my cereal of choice growing up was Kellog’s Sugar Corn Pops (nutritious as there really is corn in the ingredients … ); at the time the box was dominated by a full length photo of a genuine American Cowboy in full gear; hat, jeans, chaps and rope … Sooo when the cattle whipper started his syncopated fire cracker snapping, I was done in … as were all for cheers and hoots followed!

The lack of an official after fete did not deter guests such as Cameron Silver (looking every bit the warrior in a Lesage vest under his dinner jacket), Rachel Zoe, Lisa Eisner, Shiva Rose (super hot in Mark Fast!), Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale from splintering off to Soho House …

Our lil posse opted for a stop @ the local liquor post and a pal’s cozy haven in Hancock Park where we warmed our toes fireside stretching out the evening and enjoying each other’s company …

Who would’ve guessed the plethora of hollywood types and fashionistas that packed her lovely home and backyard for the launch of Cameron Silver’s DecadesDenim line?!

The only entrance was the black carpet alight by the flashes emanating from the swarm of paparazzi capturing the likes of Radha Mitchell (looking super cute in the Marilyn jean) Ashlee Simpson, co-hostess Lake Bell, Eva Amurri, Tracey Ullman, Jolie Fisher (proudly sporting her ‘I Voted’ sticker!), Bruce Wagner (celebrated Cali writer …), Amanda Ross, Jennifer Tilly, the ever stylish Debi Mazar, Abigail Spencer (also in the Marilyn, tho she paired with a silvery top and Repetto lace ups…tree chic!), Elizabeth Stewart (pairing her jeans with a fitted blazer and a custom Magda Berliner ruffle blouse …), jewelry designer Irene Neuwirth, Rose Mc Gowan (totally working the Tina style in black denim!!) … oye, what a list! On the fashion front were Jessica Pastor, George Kotsiopoulos, Vincent Boucher, Gregory Parkinson (awaiting the results of his nomination for the CFDA Fashion Fund Award is excruciating….), Vogue‘s Lisa Love and Sally Perrin.

Finally departing for the after dinner at Sunset Towers, Cameron was flanked by all his lovely fans and supporters. Hurrah for a starry finale to a successful take off … !

Fact: Vanessa Bruno and Linlee Allen know how to throw a party. Ce soir, Lindsey Lerman and I went to Vanessa Bruno’s Melrose store opening celebration.  While I was a little bummed to not gawk at Vanessa’s two lines, strewn around the store in a modern but Parisian and feminine way, I forgave VB et crew because there were GIRLS IN SWINGS… and a super cool neon-ish art installation by French artist Cyprien Chabret !  Yes, VB’s opening event is COOLER than yours will ever be… 

The rain is a fan of Mlle. Bruno’s ahhhmazing designs, and therefor halted any unfavorable weather…Mr. Rain also allowed for good weather because he wanted to see what stops the fashionable ensemble would pull.

I am in love with the Spring Summer 2011 collection (gold star for the makeup used on the models), but I must admit I have not even had time to embrace VB Fall 2010.  (If you have any interest to see which items I need/want from Fall 2010, click here)

Despite the small print requesting guests to don 1920′s and 30′s era attire, many turned out in light fluid handkerchief hemmed day dresses, boaters, bow ties and knickers (not the panty variety … !).

I was especially impressed with the male servers and bartenders; most with signature Veuve brand bow ties, ascots or waistcoats; the ladies in crochet knee socks and feathers and variations on flapper wear in between.

On offer were Classic Yellow Label, Rose Brut and the ever popular 1985 Rose Vintage, enjoyed by all including the crashers onto the VIP side of the field after the half time traditional divot stamping … just in time for dessert!

Host and Polo Super Star Nacho Figueras was making the rounds pre game obliging fans with photos and handshakes. Red carpet saw the likes of Minnie Driver, preparing for the ensuing press accompanying her new film ‘Conviction’ starring Hilary Swank, Donovon Leitch with his beautifully angelic daughter Violet Jean, Michelle Hicks, Jonny Lee Miller, Rachel Zoe, Mischa Barton, Buzz and Lois Aldrin festooned in black and white feathers and our local fashion hero Cameron Silver.

A special Sunday afternoon indeed spent in our very own Will Rogers State Park … who says Angelinos don’t partake in cultural activities? Hi-HO!

After our peruse through one of the three ‘galleries’ we ventured out on this perfect balmy Cali night for yummy pizza and elbow rubbing with pals including: the always entertaining Tracee Ellis Ross ( the best story teller, EVER …), Cameron Silver, so very dapper in Phillip Lim formal, beautifully pregnant co-chair Jessica de Ruiter, Jonathon Craven (cheering on his sibs who were musical guests Chapin Sisters for this portion of the evening’s festivities …), George Kotisioupolis of Fashion Police, Andrew Durham, Melissa Coker of Wren, one of our best local designer talents, not to mention very pretty in silver sequins….oh, and another co chair gal and local Celine Khavarani who took our breath away in a gorgeous kaleidoscope frock … wow

And so, like Cinderella, we trudged off a bit after the midnight ending hour happy for the culture, entertainment and fun time …

We at The Daily Truffle are VERY into shoes. We have even considered launching a dating site called Shoesme.com where people could just browse through photos of perspective mate’s shoes to determine a true match.

Who better to help us launch our newest column “IN THE SHOE CLOSET” than Cameron Silver, Owner of DECADES, boutiques in Los Angeles and London, and Christos Garkinos, co-owner of DECADESTWO boutique on Melrose.

Cameron Silver, who grew up in Beverly Hills, shifted the dress code in Los Angeles since he opened his Melrose Avenue salon Decades in 1997. He travels on invitation to the private homes of Houston socialites and Hong Kong department store to speak to the city’s nouveau clotheshorses, and contributes on  E! Entertainment and the Style Network and writes about luxury, shopping and travel  for the Harpers Bazaar UK, C Magazine, Departures and Style.com. The Los Aneles Native has dressed (all in vintage) Gwyneth Paltrow in Christian Dior, Chloe Sevigny in Thierry Mugler, Kiera Knightly in Ossie Clark, Nicole Kidman in Loris Azzaro. Cameron Silver is wrapping up a coffee table book for Bloomsbury showcasing an unexpected compilation of the most significant 20th century fashions, as well as the many celebrities he collaborated with over the years. It’s slated for release in fall 2010.

Downstairs at Decadestwo, pre-owned and unworn designer jewelry, bags, shoes and clothes fill a 3,000-square-foot storefront. The offerings are all 21st century consignments, many from the current season. Silver and his business partner in Decadestwo, Christos Garkinos, have racked up accolades for their innovative concept, including being named “Retailer of the Year” at the 2006 LA Fashion Awards.

Cameron Silver:

DT: What shoes do you wear MOST?

CS: My Lambertson Truex black alligator Chelsea boots. They are perfect and are easy to get on off when going through security at the airport. I love them so much I got a pair in brown before Lambertson Truex closed.

DT: Which are the most SPECIAL?

CS: Hard to choose one so let me try for three!

• Alexander McQueen midnight blue bugle bead lace ups – because they are McQueen and bugle beads – enough said.
• Phillip Lim Fall 2010 mixed animal pony fur sneakers – I know no one else had a pair because Phillip gave me the samples from the runway.
• Christian Louboutin black velvet with studs slip-ons — my friend Susan surprised me with them and they are such a conversation piece!

DT: Which ones are your FAVORITE?

CS: I have a pair of decadent A. Testino black crocodile boots lined in sheared mink. I live in LA and never get to wear them, except when I am in Europe in January. They feel amazing. I also love my Louis Vuitton black crocodile limited edition lace ups trimmed with gold piping that were made in conjunction with the opening of LV’s Champs Elysee boutique. I own No. 18 which I think is a lucky number.

DT: What is your NEXT PURCHASE?!

CS: I really want the Christian Louboutin high tops with studs in black … I know they are totally fashion victim-y, but I think they are pretty fun.

DT: I saw you recently in a pair of shoes at Design Week’s Almont Yard party … they look like the long lost set of shoes that were meant to go along with the Darjeeling Limited LV luggage set!

CS: Those shoes are Alexander McQueen Spring Summer 2010 – they are splatter painted and even my dad likes them! I got the shoe bug from my dad who digs Gucci loafers.

Christos Garkinos:

DT: What shoes do you wear MOST?

CG: My YSL patent high top sneakers from spring 09 (pictured). Stylish, comfortable and extremely versatile.

DT: Which are the most SPECIAL?

CG: I have a pair of Jean Michel Cazabat silver python boots (pictured). Enough said

DT: Which ones are your FAVORITE?

CG: Honestly, my favorite shoes are my Sperry topsiders loafers (pictured) that I wear for my dogwalks every morning. I have a size 13 flat foot. So comfort at 6 in the morning is paramount.

CG: I am circling the YSL Jonny Boot in leopard (pictured). I own four other pairs of Jonnys and I love ‘em cause they make me 6’6.

Food served: I don’t think anyone noticed because everyone was obsessed with quaffing the Dom Perignon champagne!
Celebs: It was A-list – Tom and Katie, Quentin Tarantino, Sofia Coppola, Harvey Weinstein, Stephen Dorff, virtually the entire cast of Star Trek – Chris Pine, Zach Quinto, John Cho, Adam Lambert, and party crashers Lindsay Lohan and her mother.
Friends I saw: Nico Golfar, Lady Victoria Hervey, Nathalie Walker, John Flanagan, Cameron Silver, Rick Yune
Clothes that stood out: Adam Lamberts, Diane Kruger and Zoe Saldana came fresh from the Critic’s Choice Awards and looked stunning.

W Magazine, Liane Weintraub, and The Center Dance Arts present a cocktail reception and shopping fete previewing Alberta Ferretti Spring 2010 Collection in celebration of The Joffrey Ballet’s, Cinderella at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion.

It’s that time again, where fashion insiders get to preview the next “must have” lines of the next season. To the average person, thinking about a preview of spring clothing (When we haven’t been able to wear our new amazing winter purchases ) is a very odd idea…. But people in the design world know that fashion designers are always six months ahead, at least!

Caroline and I were lucky tonight to get a glimpse of the Alberta Ferretti Spring 2010 ready to wear collection, at the beautifully designed Alberta Ferretti store at 8626 Melrose Avenue. Beautiful models did parade around the store in select looks from the Spring collection.

This ethereal collection is very cohesive and wearable for twenty somethings on up. Meet your grandmother for tea at the Peninsula, or jet off to a fashionable event… say at the Alberta Ferretti store AF spring 2010 has designed frocks for the modest costumer to the daring fashionista. The looks from this season consist of tasteful mini dresses and embellished long dresses, blouse/ skirt duos, sophisticated event dresses, two tone trench coats, flowy satin pants, and a stylish updated version of a 1940′s skirt suit combo.

Colorful satin belts were a very important accessory for this show, appearing in approximately one third of the runway looks.

The colors that stood out were mostly neutrals, tints and shades of grey, yellow, purple, blue, and vintage pinks.

Fashionable attendants included: Fingerprint’s Jessica Meisels, Stylist and C Magazine Editor George Kotsiopoulos, Style.com Blogger and Senior Fashion News and Special Projects Editor of V magazine Derek Blasberg, Decades Cameron Silver, Actress Ever Carradine, Jewelry designer Nola Singer, LA Time’s Jessie Rubin, Craig Cardon, Real estate whiz Tyson Park, and photographer Alex Berliner. Guests sampled passed hors d’oeuvres accompanied with white wine and sparkling water.

L.A. Native and friend Ashlee Margolis killed it last with a huge celebrity turn out at the new Judith Leiber store opening on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. She threw the party along with Judith Leiber’s PR team and their New York PR agency, Company Agenda. Fellow LA Natives in attendance: jewelry designer Anita Ko, Daniel Landver, CEO for Lucas Design, actress Paula Patton (Harvard Westlake), Jessica Capshaw (Harvard Westlake ’94), Desiree Kohan (Beverly Hills High), owner of chic boutique Des Kohan, and The A Lists’ Candice Tab who grew up in Malibu. Other Angelenos we love included Cameron Silver (Decades on Melrose), Ashley Paige (bikini designer), Negar Ali (stylist) and Chris Huvane. Other celebrities included Ginnifer Goodwin, Amber Valletta, Katie Cassidy, Gabrielle Union, Jenna Dewan, Anne Heche and Sanaa Lathan. Also in attendance were uber-stylists to the stars Jessica Pastor, Penny Lovell, Tanya Gill, Wendi Ferreira, Tara Sweenen and Vincent Boucher. I also saw Brooke Davenporte, Kathy + Rick Hilton, designer Magda Berliner, celebrity hair stylist Anthony Francis, and shoe designers Jerome C. Rousseau and Taryn Rose. 

I was ecstatic to get an invite as Judith Leiber was something I grew up being taught was a life necessity!! My mother use to buy me the mini JL coin purses every time she would walk through Neiman Marcus in search of a new bag. I am always excited to find myself growing into my mother’s Maude Frisson shoes and in this case – her Judith Leiber accessories.

Following store openings in New Dehli, India and Dubai, UAE, last week, long time bag and belt maker Judith Leiber joined the ranks of Rodeo Drive storefronts opening their first ever Beverly Hills boutique across from the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on via Rodeo.

Judith Leiber’s crystal minaudières are a well-recognized hit on red carpets and white table clothes at parties. The fall bags are now out and are inspired by the 70′s and Art Deco. The new designs feature square silhouettes for the “Wrap Clutch” and “Rectangle,” held by Paula Patton (above). To show off the bags this fashion week, Judith Leiber collaborated with designer Cho Cheng who featured the handbags on the runway at Bryant Park this month with his SS10 line. Cho Cheng is a secret treasure of the couture set - Cheng inherited his love of fashion from his grandmother, Betty Char-Nuis Yan, the acclaimed couturier who founded the famed Betty Couture at the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong in 1960. The Cho Cheng show was opened by socialite & model Lydia Hearst and closed by fav-model-of-the-moment Coca Rocha.

Special services at the Beverly Hills store will include personal shopping and as always – complimentary repairs. My mother made it a point to tell me when I started writing this post that she still brings her belts and bags in to have the jewels replaced and leather polished up and they are always happy to do so at no cost! Judith Leiber President, Mary Gleason, says “Judith Leiber is the bag of choice for style setters, First Ladies, and royalty.”I’d like to think so – the collectible handbags are part of the permanent design collections in my mother’s wardrobe as well as The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The Smithsonian Institute.
