Considering Busta Rhymes was HUGE during high school – it was only fitting that the crowd went nuts for him as a large portion of people I went to high school with were in attendance.  He did the smart thing by only performing older hits such as Touch It, Break Ya Neck, I Know What You Want, Wait,  Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See.

Maroon 5, La Natives, did a fine job performing their old hits (much better than their newer stuff) from their unreleased greatest hits album.  We all know Adam Levine is hot and every girl is in love with him, but let’s be honest here, one comparing themselves to rock legend, Mick Jagger, is a no no in my book.

I really have no words for Drake or shall I saw Aubrey Graham’s from *cough* Degrassi performance…When someone says ‘the icing on the cake’, they were refering to Drake’s surprise performance.  I heart him and could not have been happier to see him perform, let alone the the DAY after his sophmore CD, Take Care was released.  Not only did Drake perform, but he actually interacted with the audience which is more than Maroon 5 did..#justsaying

Food glorious food: After a few drinks, on our way out it was VERY needed to have a lil midnight snack.  Our faves were the Mac and Cheese and Chow Mein but there was also a hot dogs cart (no, NOT street meat), popcorn, chicken wings, slushies, tacos, and more.

Activities: Photo booth area Photo’s taken with Tmobile Android phones (Pre req for events these days), Live graffiti installations, Interactive kiosks such as T-Mobile Music Store, T-Mobile Discover Bar, Ask Desmond Station, and photo booth using an Android phone.

Remember when people use to say “let’s do lunch” … ? Well, I think tonight I heard the replacement phrase for that while at an after party for the Foundation Polo Challenge played today in Santa Barbara. The after party was held in Room 64 at the Chateau, more commonly known as the penthouse even though it’s not the top floor.  ON his way out, a friend I’d not seen in ages came flying by at the elevators, without stopping, grabbed me, kissed me, pointed his finger and said “I am SO calling you tomorrow” …

The party was hosted by the Duke of Argyll - the social ambassador for Royal Salute Whiskey who throws international glitzy after parties for the brand’s polo team – aptly called Team Royal Salut. Team Royal Salut won 5 to 3 on Saturday afternoon with the players comprised of Prince William who has been in town on a royal visit, Glen Holden Jr, Andy Busch of the Anheuser Busch family, and Santi Trotz. Prince William scored 4 out of the 5 goals that brought the team to victory which led to an on-going topic of conversation at the after party: “I wonder which teammate tossed the Gentleman’s Agreement to let Will get ALL the goals  …”

I saw mini hamburgers, mini cupcakes, bite-size beef wellingtons, mini grilled cheese and 2 bars with Royal Salut and Pierre Jouet champagne. Brent Bolthouse had a very interesting playlist going full of 50s songs including tracks from Dirty Dancing (“Stay”) and Grease (“Summer lovin”). He then moved on to the time wrap song from Rocky Horror picture show and threw in a little Neil Diamond (“Sweet Caroline”) and The Stokes (“Last Night”). Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd (and I believe Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann) came to the Chateau after party dressed in tuxedos from the BAFTA Brits to Watch event which was held earlier this eve downtown.

BAFTA aka the British Academy of Film and Television Arts planned this event to promote up-and-coming British talent in the industry. Prince William is president of BAFTA  and Nigel Lythgoe is the BAFTA Los Angeles Chairman. A couple of the BAFTA Brits to Watch showed up at the Chateau after party including Gugu Mbatha-Raw(“Larry Crowne”).

Seated at the royal table were Nicole Kidman, Barbra Streisand, James Brolin and Donna Langley co-chairman of Universal Pictures, Duncan Kenworthy as well as the prince’s private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, diplomat Sir David Manning and British consul-general Dame Barbara Hay, who hosted a private party for the royals at her Hancock Park home on Friday evening.

The next morning – Sunday, July 10, 2011 – Prince William and Kate were over at producer Steve Tisch‘ house for a reception to mark the launch of the US Patrons Circle of Tusk, an African wildlife conservation charity which strives to preserve Africa’s natural heritage and culture, of which Prince William has been Royal Patron since 2005. Tusk’s US donors, Reese Witherspoon, Catherine Keener, Disney CEO Bob Iger and his wife, LA Huff Post editor Willow Bay, Kristin Gore (daughter of Al Gore), Peter Morton & Linda Evangelista, asset manager Willy & Eileen Ma, Tusk CEO Charlie Mayhew MBE, TUSK USA Director Meredith Ogilvie-Thompson and President of Jaguar Land Rover Andy Goss. Jaguar Land Rover sponsored the event and donated a new Land Rover Defender to the charity to help with its work in Africa.

On the list … Charlotte Ronson (the designed of the JC Penney line “T Heart Ronson”) and her sister, DJ Samantha Ronson, and their friends including several LA natives: sisters Kidada Jones and Rashida Jones, sisters Nicky Hilton and Paris Hilton, Monet Mazur. Other attending friends include like nightlife guru Brent Bolthouse, Hollywood’s most notorious “plus one” Carlos Lopez, publicist Rembrandt Flores, actor and DJ Danny Masterson, actor Zac Efron and more … Last year, Charlotte’s party for I Heart Ronson was front-lined by her step-father Mick Jones’ band Foreigner at Milk Studios in LA.

For those of you not familiar with the above … Charlotte (a designer) and Samantha (a DJ) are twin sisters and daughters of writer/socialite Ann Dexter-Jones; their step-father is Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones. Kidada (a designer) and Rashida (an actor) are daughters of Quincy Jones and both attended the Buckley school in the valley. Paris and Nicky (daughters of realtor/socialites Rick & Kathy Hilton) also went to Buckley on and off and know the Jones through school and growing up in LA. Nicole Richie (daughter of Lionel Richie) also went to Buckley.

Charlotte started her line with JC Penney around the time collaboration between stores like Target and H&M were winding down their famous collaborations with major celebrities and brands like Isaac Mizrahi, Madonna, Lanvin and Viktor & Rolf. JC Penney picked up on the trend a bit late but chose wisely as Charlotte Ronson has mucho brand cache among the younger set.

PARTY #2 ….

Moving west last night … We at the Truffle dare not cross the 405 unless we are going to Vicente for dinner or the Malibu Colony. However last night we made a one-time detour to the Santa Monica Promenade.

On the list … MOCA’s director Jeffrey Deitch and Maurice Marciano, one of the four Marciano brothers who founded Guess, teamed up to host the re-opening of Guess’ flagship store and spread the hype about MOCA’s current exhibit Art in the Street.’ The Bumbys were also present, clad in their usual bandana-masks and hat. The Bumbys, for those who don’t know, are two a performance artists who make an honest and fair assessment of your appearance at parties by typing it out on an old Brother computer and giving you the card. They have been the latest fad at Hollywood parties in the last year.

Another party fad we’ve noticed at Hollywood parties is live graffiti art. Last night, Guess and MOCA hired street artist (and friend of the Truffle) Chase to conduct live graffiti art next to the red carpet in front of the party. On the inside, they also had an electronic graffiti board we also saw at the T-Mobile party in Beverly Hills earlier this year.

But back to MOCA, we covered the opening of Art in the Street at MOCA this spring and loved the exhibit – full of well known and obscure LA and non-LA street artist work. MOCA has been doing a series of promotional parties – though they feel anything but promotional. So far they have all been exclusive, cherry-picked crowds at sophisticated laid-back venues. Last month, MOCA and Jeffrey teamed up with LEVIS to screen a documentary film at SOHO House and host an after party a mile East at the notorious Levis showroom, located in a clandestine house on Sunset Blvd next door to the Château Marmont. Blink twice and you’ll miss it.

PARTY #3 … The final party of the eve was the premiere of True Blood – who by the way – throws pretty amazing parties. You can credit that to HBO who understand what it takes to please a pampered crowd.

On the list … Stephen Moyer and wife Anna Paquin, Alexander Skarsgard & girlfriend Kate Bosworth, Joe Manganiello with fiancée Audra Marie, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Ryan Kwanten, Perrey Reeves (on HBO’s “Entourage”), Amanda Seyfried (who was on HBO’s ”Big Love”) and more all gathered at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome. Afterwards there was a party that included palm-reading witches and plastic fangs for guests. The new season of “True Blood” premieres Sunday on HBO.

I think we can all agree Brent Bolthouse + Guy Starkman is a mucccch better partnership than Brent Bolthouse + Sam Nazarian so good news for all in search of a good bar … And a big thank you for more places opening up in Beverly Hills/West Hollywood. Were glad that whole Cahuenga corridor phase is over. After a few pre-openings last week (read more about The Beverly pre-openings here), The Beverly had two back-to-back grand openings this weekend on Thursday and Saturday (the only two days they will be open for business).

The team is much the same as sister club Trousdale up the street: Brent Bolthouse, Darren Dzienciol, Guy Starkman, and Jen Rosero. Grace Fernandez will handle table service/bottle service. Brad Zeifman and Lisette Sand-Freedman‘s Shadow PR has been tapped to handle publicity. Warren, the long time manager at Jerry’s Deli, who also acted as manager at Guy’s first bar (“Guy’s,” pre-Michael Sutton era) will again be manager of The Beverly. An interesting addition is Marcel Vigneron from Top Chef who is now in-house creating liquid nitrogen concoctions you can drink. Stylist Jessica Pastor, made of the wait staff costumes for The Beverly which include Siwy hot pants and Levi’s denim. Also, there are real Saber tooth skulls above the bar … like 40 of them. It’s hard to tell they are anything more than lights, so look close! Congrats to all friends involved with this new bar.

The Beverly, the second* venture from nightlife guru’s Guy Starkman, Darren Dzienciol, Brent Bolthouse and Jen Rosero, is right on par with the newer trend of less club and more lounge … Think more relaxed NYC bar and less big LA bottle-popping club. *Trousdale was the first (The Beverly is housed in the same location as Guy Starkman’s first bar called Guy’s where Darren was also involved)

Last Wednesday, Victoria’s Secret rented out The Beverly for their second party in L.A. in two months – this time for their launch of “What is Sexy”. This comes two weeks before The Beverly’s official opening date, May 19th. Marcel Vigneron from Top Chef exercised his molecular gastronomy skillz making frozen drinks at the bar while Cake Pops were passed around to guests dancing to the beat of famed NYC DJ, Jus Ske’s drum, I mean turn tables.

Who was sexy last night? Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Erin Heatherton, Miranda Kerr (sans Orlando), Adriana Lima, Patrick Hoelck, Jake Hoffman, Jessica Paster, Ryan Phillippe, Colin Egglesfield, Nick & Sophie Simmons, Sam Plouchart, Josh Kuyt, Park Daniel, Alex Bird, Mark Hunter, Brandon Colby, Mr. Brainwash, Sabrina Daneshgar, Kirsten Kay, Lauren Brokaw, Lindsey Lerman, Mayer Hawthorne, Grace Potter without her Nocturnals, Evan Ross, Ali Fartouchi, Matt Donelly (from the L.A. The Beverly opens in the same place Guy Starkman (Beverly High) had his eponymous bar Guy’s for about a decade-ish, right next door to his parent’s restaurant, Jerry’s Famous Deli on Beverly Boulevard. The Beverly has the same basic lay out as Guy’s, but with totally different design elements.

The booths, fire place, DJ, bar and couches are all in the same spots as original Guy’s circa 2009, but this time everything feels and looks much cozier.  The difference? Exposed metal piping, recycled/reclaimed wood, hundreds of dangling light bulbs, new trees, rich brown leathers and so on. A cabin-chic vibe mixed with fine European detailing sets off this Cold War Era pharmacy-eque venue with back-to-basics design elements – as is the trend with other of our favorite hotspots Paul&Andre, Harvard and Stone, Spare Room and Thirsty Crow.

My two favorite things about The Beverly are the new industrial-chic bar and the subway-theme bathroom entrance. Gold Baroque light fixtures, dark shiny granite and a complex faucet design above the bar complete with exposed metal piping attached to the bar itself. Pristine white subway tiles now lead into the bathrooms.

Thursdays and Saturdays will be the nights to go, which sounds oh so perfect to us.

We heart Wendy Stark. She is the god mother of one of our Trufflers here and, for those of you who don’t know, the daughter or Ray Stark who was quite the producer (Funny Girl, The Way We Were) here in L.A. She just hosted an opening for the new LACMA restaurant called Ray’s and a lounge called the Stark Bar via a gift from the Stark Foundation. Wendy is also a LACMA trustee, and the Los Angeles editor of Vanity Fair. NBD (no big deal).

Guess what? Remember when William Morris sold their 3 Beverly Hills buildings and leased space in the new high rise on Canon and Wilshire, but then merged with Endeavour who had space for them, but William Morris would have left the lease anyway because the building also rented to Gersh which was against their non-compete clause?

Well, guess who is going to fill oh those many offices left empty by William Morris’ broken lease? We hear MGM !! Our truffle hunters tell us MGM just signed a lease on the property and are moving out of their Century City tower and into the new Beverly Hills building. Mazel Tov!

They aren’t the only ones making deals … Equinox fitness finally signed a lease in the Bank of America building in Beverly Hills which measn you’ll know where to find us! Our trufflers tell us that Equinox had originally bid on the Sports Club L.A. location located on Camden underneath William Morris Endeavor but lost it to the rival gym.

In other Beverly Hills news … Tom Ford will FINALLY open his boutique (YESSSSSSSSS!) on Rodeo Drive this week. Big opening on Thursday this week …

We also have a sit down coming soon with Cedar Sinai’s head of Anesthesiology, Dr. Julian Gold, who is running for Beverly Hills city council (VOTE MARCH 8, 2011). His platform is highly endorse by The Daily Truffle and we will get in that more in the next couple days.

We also went on a tour of the construction site which will one day soon be the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills on Canon between Santa Monica and Little Santa Monica Blvd. We have pics, deets and stories coming soon about the historic Post Office but for now please watch this video about the project!

Also Il Sole re-opens this week with new partner Brent Bolthouse joining Andy Hewitt who has had the restaurant shut since December for light renovations.

LCD Soundsytem ‘killed it like a family of five’ (in the words of Rachel Zoe) this last Friday, October 15th 2010, at the Hollywood Bowl, with opening acts Sleigh Bells and Hot Chip.  (YES, I did say both of those acts…. My friends who are reading this know my love for Sleigh Bells and Hot Chip).

Even a light drizzle could not / would not stop the loyal fans and the newly obsessed crowd from dancing their little butts off…….I don’t believe I saw anyone sit down for the entire show.

Lasers, strobe lights, and fog machines, OH MY!  James Murphy (Yes, in his famed white suit) and the LCD crew put on an epic show, starting off with Dance Yourself Clean, followed by such hits as Daft Punk is Playing At My House, Tribulations, Losing My Edge, You Wanted a Hit, I Can Change, Drunk Girls, and Someone Great. *Special shout out to David Scott Stone, genius guitar player and LA native !!

Of course, Ms. Kirsten Kay and I had a joyous night, drinking sangria while watching LCD under the stars, and let’s not forget the lovely people in our Garden Box who failed to show up.

… And yes, I was officially able to say, ” I’m singing in the rain !!”

Taking the opportunity to view the much anticipated display of 1700 and 1800 men’s, women’s and children’s clothing on display at the new Resnick Pavillion on Saturday night before the Avant Gard fete following the themed ‘The UnMasking’ dinner was a smart move …

Here are  my faces … ! I must be bootie obsessed, but the undergarments designed to enhance the ladies’ posterior were by far some of the most fascinating items in this exhibit. After our peruse through one of the three ‘galleries’ we ventured out on this perfect balmy Cali night for yummy pizza and elbow rubbing with pals including: the always entertaining Tracee Ellis Ross ( the best story teller, EVER …), Cameron Silver, so very dapper in Phillip Lim formal, beautifully pregnant co-chair Jessica de Ruiter, Jonathon Craven (cheering on his sibs who were musical guests Chapin Sisters for this portion of the evening’s festivities …), George Kotisioupolis of Fashion Police, Andrew Durham, Melissa Coker of Wren, one of our best local designer talents, not to mention very pretty in silver sequins….oh, and another co chair gal and local Celine Khavarani who took our breath away in a gorgeous kaleidoscope frock … wow

And so, like Cinderella, we trudged off a bit after the midnight ending hour happy for the culture, entertainment and fun time …

Ugh. Labor Day has come and gone, and with it the reminder that summer is now over. Judging from the gray skies and even a constant drizzle out in the Bu today, the Tuesday after Labor Day, it was as if the Earth was saying, “Time to get back to work!” Because of this, Labor Day is generally as anticlimactic and overhyped as its counterpart Fourth of July, which generally marks the start of summer. On both days, the most popular option among our friends is either Vegas (Lauren) or Malibu (Caroline). As diametrically opposed as they are in terms of climate and sophistication, they do share two common attributes: too much riff-raff and bad traffic.

Despite all this, around this time of year one can find us frolicking at the Palazzo or the Palms, or alternatively playing carnival games at the Kiwanis Club Chili Cook-off in Malibu, undoubtedly the city’s biggest event (despite the Kiwanis Club allegedly having only 8 members).

This year, things were different. For a variety of reasons, we (minus Miss Brokaw, who jetted off to Vegas with her crew) ended up getting stuck in town. We received invites to cover the first annual Taste of Beverly Hills, presented by Food and Wine magazine and produced by Jeffrey Best and Wagstaff Public Relations … the event was being held on top of a parking structure (albeit a valuable one) next to an abandoned Robinson’s May, next door to the Beverly Hilton …

We really love real estate, so let’s first talk about the location of the event, 9900 Wilshire Boulevard, which heads up the “platinum triangle” entering Beverly Hills. This location is arguably the most important and controversial site in Beverly Hills. It’s like the mythical unicorn of Beverly Hills real estate. Why? Because to my knowledge (and those of others in the real estate field), we can’t recall any piece of dirt that sold for $500,000,000. Yes, as in half a billion dollars. This deal catapulted the profiles of David Margulies and his partner Arnold Rosenstein of New Pacific Realty to the level of rock stars, having bought the site only 3 years earlier for about $33 million. FYI – Arnold’s wife Anita May Rosenstein is the great granddaughter of May Company founder David May, just to be complete. Like most things, timing was everything. The buyer, a consortium of investors led by Candy and Candy and Kaupthing Bank of Iceland, ended up defaulting on their $365.5 million loan earlier this year and handing the keys back to Banco Imbursa, owned by none other than Carlos Slim Helu, the wealthiest man in the world. Stay tuned, this story will only get more interesting and we at the Truffle shall keep you informed.

Anyway, back to the event. So thanks to a defunct condo project, Jeffrey Best and Wagstaff were able to give us the inaugural Food and Wine magazine Taste of Beverly Hills, a four day event featuring dozens of LA’s most popular and interesting restaurants situated on the most expensive parking lot in the world. Two massive, state-of-the-art tents housed prime Beverly Hills restaurants including those from five of our seven hotels – Four Seasons, Beverly Wilshire, The Peninsula, the Montage and the Beverly Hilton, as well as representation from some of our most notable and timeless staples - The Beverly Hills Cheese Store, Hansen Cakes, Nate ‘n Al’s, The Regency Club and Mickey Fine Pharmacy and Grill.

Day One: After opening night of Taste of Beverly Hills – our municipality is now on the map for glamour fireworks shows along with Hong Kong, Monaco and Dubai. In true Jeff Best form – the brains and production force behind the four day extravaganza – this event was unparalleled to anything this town has seen since The Rodeo Land and Water Company decided to name the town Beverly Hills in 1906. The first day was a celebration of 9/02/10 hosted by mayor Jimmy Delshad and Larry King who brought along fellow hosting royal Ryan Seacrest pointing even further to the likelihood Larry will tap Ryan when he steps down from the show this month. I arrived just in time to see one of our favorite singers, Natasha Bedingfield, who rocked the house. Just when we thought she was done, the Mayor convinced her to do an encore of 2 songs. In return, she was presented with a Key to the City by Mayor Delshad, who made us feel like we were at a Persian wedding or Bar Mitzvah. Known for his rampant key giving , The Mayor then surprised the crowd bringing Ne-Yo on stage to perform old and new hits, and of course an encore, trading him a few more Keys to the City to do so.

The final surprise of the night from the Mayor was a fireworks show set off from the top level of the adjacent Beverly Hilton parking structure accompanied by some Arabic and Persian music (lol?!). We have the video to prove it.

Harkening back memories of crazy Persian weddings that go on all night, the Mayor invited everyone to come onto the stage (and back to his house later for the after party, not kidding) where people were dancing for the remainder of the evening,  while leading a cheerleader-esque chant, “9…0…210, 9…0…210, 9…0…210….”  It was nice to see a political figure who was so enthusiastic and lively, and not afraid to poke fun at himself. Mayor Delshad with his larger-than-life personality gave us all a night that was most entertaining… and just very … Beverly Hills.

Unfortunately, we were having so much fun at the party that most of the food samplings were gone by the time we made our way to the booths!

Day Two: On the second night, our team focused a lot more on the food than the musical performances. According to our sources, local restaurants paid around $1500 for each session and had to provide food for approximately 1500 people. Having had some experience in the business, we can tell you that this is a significant commitment from your local restaurants, especially the smaller ones that aren’t part of huge corporations. So to the exhibitors of this event, you get our utmost respect and props from us at the Truffle.

If we fail to mention any particular restaurants, it’s only because a) you probably ran out of food or b) the line was too long at your booth or c) you probably ran out of food. Though the event was scheduled to go to 11pm, I would say that half the booths ran out of food by 9-9:30pm and by 10pm, only a handful of booths were still serving food.

Some food notes here:

Fraiche (Culver City): Panna Cotta with Watermelon juice and topped with a blackberry. Simply incredible. The synergy between the creamy panna cotta with the watermelon juice, cut by the acidity of the blackberry. Just brilliant, and probably one of our favorites of the festival.

Fig (Santa Monica): Bacon wrapped bacon. What else do you need to know? And yes, it was as good as it sounds. Actually better. Having sampled their food before, Fig might be one of the most under-rated restaurants in town, but we suspect it won’t be a local secret for very long.

Nickel Diner (Downtown LA): Catfish with corn cakes and pecan sauce and served with hashed bacon brussel sprouts; maple glazed donut with bacon bits. Having seen this place on Dine-Ins, Drive-Ins and Dives, we were glad to see the all-women owned Nickel Diner make an appearance.

Dephine: Grilled swordfish with braised fennel, pequillo peppers, pine nuts, capers; Green Apple Risotto. As usual, the boys at Innovative Dining Group continue to come up with hit after hit.

Katana: Line was too long, and since we eat there once a week or so… IDG section definitely had the most people around its booth, which should come as no surprise

Umami: Signature umami burger. The latest burger craze in LA right now… some swear by it, others just don’t get it. I think we’re in the latter group.

Father’s Office: Burger. You only get this burger one way, and that’s Sang Yoon’s way. What else more can you say about one of the best known burgers in the city?

Day Three (Date Night): Saturday night was probably the most crowded night, from what we could observe. We came on the early side and ate as much as we could, though even then we still couldn’t get through to every booth and we were overwhelmed with great food and wine. In no particular order, our food notes for the day:

District/Mercantile/Delancey: Meatballs in arrabiata sauce. Some sausage thing. Venison relleno with goat cheese. We’ve known George Abou-Daoud for years now, since he opened one of the first gastropubs in Hollywood (The Bowery). And like always, his food is right on the mark. Sunset Bouelvard is a better place because of George, no doubt about it.

Public Kitchen and Bar/ 25 Degrees (Roosevelt Hotel): Pork belly from Public Kitchen served with asparagus and frisee, very tasty. Passed on the burgers from 25 Degrees for this go-around, since it’s already a favorite of ours, especially late at night!

Petrossian: Caviar tasting, blini with craime fraiche and caviar. This booth was insane, with people lining up to have a caviar tasting. Due to overfishing which is leading to the decimation of the sturgeon population in the Caspian and Black Seas combined with worldwide bans on beluga and a trade embargo with Iran, things are now moving towards farmed fish caviar from Northern California. Actually, if you have to eat farmed caviar, Petrossian is definitely the way to go.

Il Pastaio: Involtini di Melenzane con Spaghetti. Baked spaghetti wrapped with eggplant, tomato, mozzarella and house baked dry ricotta cheese. Tasty and reliable is probably why this restaurant is the social epicenter of Beverly Hills. And always a pleasure to see two of our favorite Italian chefs Giacomino and Tanino Drago.

STK: Short rib. Pretty tasty short rib. But what really makes us want to make a visit to STK is to hang out with the lovely Emily Olsen, who was diligently greeting people and working the booth as the face of STK LA.

Angelini Osteria: Ran out of food by the time we got there. But at least we spotted Gino Angelini, one of the best Italian chefs in Los Angeles.

BOA: Goat cheese baklava with pistachios, black truffle and frisee; Smores. The baklava was brilliant, and is a must-have on our next trip to Boa (probably this week). As for the smores, still the best dessert there since the restaurant was named “Balboa.” The closest thing to a campfire experience in WeHo.

Simon LA: Puff pastry filled with Maine lobster and black truffle. This was quite excellent and a nice creative departure from his usual repertoire, reminded me of Michael Mina’s lobster pot pie back when he ran Aqua in San Francisco. It’s always nice to see Kerry Simon do his thing as the city’s Rockstar chef!

Pace: Risotto. Always a neighborhood favorite among the Laurel Canyon peeps.

Porta Via: All we could get to was their excellent chocolate chip biscotti. But how can one NOT stop by and say hello to the Mayor of Canon Drive, aka Peter Garland! Another favorite hangout among the “Truffle set.”

Nate n Al’s: Beef brisket sliders with bbq au jus. Suprisingly, this was arguably our favorite booth of the evening. A sprightly man who looked like J.C. was constantly egging on his servers to give people generous portions of brisket in their sandwiches. He was so energetic and made every person that waited for a sandwich feel like royalty. And those sandwiches were amazing… incidentally, they celebrated their 65th year in business this year… and they’re not going anywhere.

Wine tip: We tasted the Numanthia-TermesToro Termes 2005, which received 2nd Place in the 2009 Wine Spectator Top 100 with a score of 96 points. This red wine comes from Spain’s Toro region and is derived from the low-yielding, old-vine Tinto de Toro (the local variation of Tempranillo) and aging in new French oak barrels. Since 2008, Numanthia-Termes is owned by Louis Vuitton Moët-Hennessy. At $27 per bottle retail, it’s a bargain and an excellent red wine. We second Wine Spectator’s rave reviews.

Day Four: As things were winding down on the final night, the theme was barbeque. Like every other day, people came early and cleaned out most of the exhibitors’ food supply. There were, however, a few standouts, namely in the form of tacos.

Sweet Rose Creamery (Brentwood Country Mart): Bon Bons in vanilla, banana, mint, caramel, coffee, and chocolate. Now we know where to satisfy our sweet tooth anytime we’re in Brentwood or SaMo. A really great ice cream shop.

PopShop: Popsicles in various flavors. We tried the Lime Mint Mojito. It was different, but in a groovy, cool way. I wonder if popsicles will become the new frozen yogurt.

Craft (Century City): Pork Belly. Though our first visits to Craft weren’t so great in their debut months, if this tasting was any indication, it appears the restaurant has gotten a lot better. The pork belly sampler was nicely done, and could make us believe in Colicchio as a chef (and not just a TV host) again. Time for another visit soon.

Vampiros Tacos (Tacos Guanajuato): Beef and pork tacos with cheese. Some of the best tacos I have ever tasted in recent time. What was interesting was how they wrapped the pork around a pineapple core and then rotated the meat around a constant fire just like shawerma. The end result was spectacular. These guys were inundated all night long as one of the most popular exhibits, and we especially commend them for bringing enough food to feed people almost until closing time.

Antojitos Carmen: Shrimp tacos in a fried corn shell tortilla. Amazing tacos also. Between this and the other Vampire taco stand, we must have stood in line and returned to get more about 3 more times.

Overall Review: This was in fact a very well-executed event. One thing we really liked was the fact that the ticket prices were all-inclusive, with unlimited food and drinks. It’s nice to be able to pay a flat fee and not have to carry around cash to pay for beverages. In typical Jeffrey Best fashion, the tables were plenty and nicely set-up and the utilization of the space and the set up of the tents made the event easy to navigate, while spreading out the crowd sufficiently enough for claustrophobic types like us to move around with relative ease. It was a comfortable event, and it was clear that much thought was put into logistics and planning. Bravo, Mr. Best, bravo.

As for things we would suggest for next year. We didn’t understand why the organizers didn’t include complimentary parking, and simply incorporate a parking fee into the cost of the ticket, considering the all-inclusive nature of the event. The shuttle services from the various satellite locations were very efficient and well-run, we never had to wait more than ten minutes for one, and they had multiple shuttles going to and from each parking location so there was no real crowding either.

Another inconvenience was having attendees and media check in at the Beverly Hilton where the executive meeting rooms were. With the sheer size of 9900 Wilshire, it wouldn’t seem difficult to have people check in at the entrance area, or designate an area within the parking structure below. I’m sure the meticulous Mr. Best will resolve these minor issues next year.

We hope that more restaurants will participate in this great event, and we hope that it will help to revitalize our hospitality industry as it attempts to lift itself from the doldrums of this Great Recession. It certainly opened up our eyes and palates to restaurants and businesses where we often drive-by, but never think of stopping in. We certainly hope other people feel the same way.

We are certainly looking forward to returning next year! Congratulations to Wagstaff and Jeffrey Best for a job well done. This is exactly what Beverly Hills needed, and we believe it has the potential to be one of the most important food festivals in the nation.

So what did happen in the notorious Penthouse 64 you ask?

Last night The A List and LFB Media Group hosted the sunglass brand Carrera’s Escape party up at the Chateau to promote their shades. We saw a lot of friends, celebs, beautiful skyline and got some pretty cool t-shirts made. Went down stairs for dinner around 9pm where we were waited upon by a Chateau waiter who was fully obsessive compulsive and actually came by to “straighten” my silver wear at one point and bullied us into all ordering the same beverage. Then when the bill came he asked us if we wanted him to put it on three different checks. We said it was fine and we would just split it – he then brought 3 checks with the entire meal including gratuity split three ways. The bill literally read 1/3 shrimp cocktail – $5.44, 1/3 salad chicken added – $4.83, 1/3 gratuity included 15% – $11.87. Weird! I have never seen anything like that! Have you??

Then the MOST interesting thing happened! Ladies exiting the ladies room were slipping a bit more than usually on that one patch where the wood meets the foyer tiles …  after about the 5th girl ate it in front of our table, we investigated the situation ourselves and found the spot to be particularly slippery and suggested to one of the staff that they throw a towel or some flour on the spot. He laughed and said “no no we keep it that way on purpose hoping to get a show!!” Huh? Is it possible the Chateau would risk the hundreds of potential lawsuits out of boredom at their jobs? If there was a hotel who dare (and who could probably get away with it) its the Chateau!

Upstairs at the party, tight quarters were packed with Carrera gift bags, Alternative apparel silk screening, Cover Girl touch up rooms, the tattooed chef working away in the service sized kitchen of the penthouse – locally known as room 64 – and lots of party goers.

Elsewhere in LA Saturday night – Julian Schnabel talked about Dennis Hopper (RIP) at MOCA downtown and Becca Midwood unveiled new art for The Daily Truffle at her gallery opening in Bergamont Station.

Coachella 2010

I decided when I got to Coachella that I would only be taking pictures of friends and MAYBE things I saw that were a bit odd, because while I would have loved to photograph people with amazing style, that is done by Elle, Who What Wear, Teen Vogue, your sister, every blog, etc..

(I also didn’t go to Coachella to blog or take pictures for anyone else but myself)

Along the way I was faced with a few obstacles, 1 being that I am no photographer, and 2 my memory card filled up within the first day (Aren’t I great at planning for a trip?) Rachel saved the 3rd day, providing me with her camera.

Here are some of the Pulitzer Prize winning photos I took, some being of parties I attended, interesting people I saw, and yes, a few of actual Coachella.

Because of the massive Coachella Facebook albums everywhere, I have tried to include as few of me or my friends as possible, to insure you have a unique viewing experience.

To add to the family experience parties were being extra sensative to the needs required for desert survival!

• Lacoste gave plenty of sunblock to guests coming into the pool party, and flashlights on the way out. They also stocked the party full of food and fruit popsicles for vitamins and anti-oxidants replenishment!
• Brent Bolthouse had walls of Brita water coolers and cups lining the entire entrance & exit to his air hanger carnival along with tons of food from Chipotle, Fatburger & Moose munch.
• Bing shuttles took inebriated and tired guests back to their hotels from the midnight oasis in the desert.

Los Angeles nightlife and restaurateurs Guy Starkman with Darren Dzienciol, Brent Bolthouse and Jenifer Rosero are finalllyyy set up to open the highly anticipated Trousdale, a new lounge on the cusp of both Beverly Hills and West Hollywood on Sunset.

Trousdale lounge is located at 9229 Sunset Blvd., (formerly Blowfish Sushi) which is in good company, across from Boa Steakhouse and The Soho House, which is hosting Oscar parties throughout the weekend and officially opens May 8th.

Trousdale comes to us as a result of Guys being sold in May of 2009, and Brent and Jen looking for new adventures since their days with Sam have come to a close. Brent is now calling his new bar Trousdale “This generation’s Hyde.” The name Trousdale comes from the neighborhood north of the bar called Trousdale Estates (Jennifer Aniston, Ringo Starr, Prince and Paul Allen have homes here).

After seeing the beautiful transformations Brent & Jen and Guy & Darren have done in their respective pasts, I was very curious to know what style/theme they were going to go for with this new ultra lounge.

“The intimate Trousdale interior features dark wood, marble pillars and oversized booths finished with silver leather. The focal point of the property is the main bar, framed by elaborate silver and gold moldings and decorated with a dark marble bar top, mirrored panels along the sides and an intricate mosaic pattern. Another key design element is the lavish chandelier, which runs the length of the main room.

Reasons Lauren has to be excited:
1. I live exactly two blocks west and down the street from Trousdale lounge.
2. I love the name because I lived in Trousdale for most of my life (I guess that means I am sentimental :-/ )
3. Who wants to always drive deep into Hollywood just to go out, see friends, and get a drink?
4. I spent the better part of a few years at Hyde and was very unhappy when my “second home” was disbanded, now I hope to have a new second home with this new team !
5. Many of my favorite nights out have been due to a club or event that Bolthouse or the Guy’s team has master minded, so I am looking forward to new favorite times. This is Brent and Jen’s first collaboration since ending partnership with SBE, and I can think of no other group I’d rather them join.
6. Without naming names or sounding crazy, I am happy to start seeing some people who actually have style and will dress up a bit again… the arts and crafts, “I can dress weirder than you” trend has not been a favorite of mine and I’ll be happy to see it dissipate.
7. Dana Flores has catered many of the Bolthouse events I have gone to, and let me tell you, the treats she prepares are delish and to die for.
8. The Daily Truffle is first and for most about LA, so the fact that Darren and Guy are LA natives adds a lil icing to the cake! We give props to Brent and Jen to for going into their third decade in Los Angeles as well.

Celebrities Jessica Szohr and Kellan Lutz and more show their support for Haiti Relief efforts by signing Volkswagen GTI Autographed Hood at the Maxim Super Bowl Party in Miami‏

Celebrities showed their support at the 2010 Maxim super bowl party Saturday at the Raleigh, Miami by autographing a Volkswagen GTI hood which will be auctioned off on Ebay to support Doctors Without Borders Haiti Relief efforts. For each signature, Volkswagen of America will also make an additional donation to the cause. Vanessa Minillo said “This is so great they’re doing this” as she signed the hood with hubby Nick Lachey. Twilight star Kellan Lutz and Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr also had fun signing the hood for the worthy cause. Melrose Place hottie Katie Cassidy was swarmed by paparazzi and high tropical winds as she arrived and weathered the crowds to sign. Other celebs lending support included Kevin Connolly, Jermaine Dupri (who also DJ’d the exclusive party), Wilmer, Valderrama, Tom, Arnold, Joanna Kruppa, Nelly, Brody Jenner, Evander Holyfield, Shawn and Keenan Ivory Wayans, Nancy O’dell, Ironman’s Olivia Munn, David Annable, musicians LMAFO who also perforned, the All American Rejects, and a slew of NFL elite! Volkswagen also provided Touareg TDI eco-conscious SUV’s for several celebrities to travel in an environmentally-friendly way to and from the party.
