*Salam, chetori?

Whilst at dinner last night we were told this so called “Persian Jersey Shore” was done taping and is set to air under the name “Shahs of Sunset” on Bravo. No date known as of now. For our readers living out of L.A., Sunset refers to Sunset Blvd in Beverly Hills where many mansions have been built, torn down and re-built with the notorious ‘Persian mansions’ … In one case, a house belonging to a royal Persian family on Sunset burned to the ground — much speculation circulated over the cause of the fire.

This show probably would have been better in the 80s but whatever, for us in Beverly Hills — this is amazing. For some background on the Persian community in Beverly Hills, we refer you to this 2009 W magazine article which includes many friends of the Truffle.

Update: January 23, 2012 :: Bravo just released info about the show so we have added it for you here … Cast members include: Golnesa “GG” Gharachedaghi (29, Persian princess), Mike Shouhed (33, real estate agents recovering from the financial crisis), Sammy Younai (35, real estate developer), Asa Soltan Rahmati (35, singer), Reza Farahan (38, gay real estate agent), Mercedes “MJ” Javid (30-ish, party girl real estate agent).

Oddly none of the people in our Truffle circuit know any of these people which is a little strange considering that encompasses 4 generations of Beverly Hills natives … do you know them? Comment below if you do.

Range Rovers have a tell car-nappers can see a mile away: as you will know if you are a RR driver, the side windows fold back when the doors are locked. An unlocked RR will have ears sticking out like Dumbo and are a green light for those on the prowl who may just be staking out parking lots or city streets waiting for one false move …

Every night in Beverly Hills, the Cartier guards come out and take inventory of the jewels before pulling them from the window for the evening. Every year, Cartier dresses up the store for Christmas with a big red bow that wraps around the entire corner of Rodeo & Brighton.

No one takes Christmas more seriously than the late Bijan of Beverly Hills. Though he passed earlier this year, the store still upholds his traditional Santa Claus’s trying to deliver presents through every window of the store. They also still park his custom yellow Phantom or Veyron in front of his store, one of the best marketing ideas I’ve ever seen, as everyone stops to take pictures and those photos get taking back and shown to people at all poins of the globe. This store is actually one of the prettiest stores on Rodeo Drive — both front and back if you drive around the alley — because it was left in tact from it’s previous tenant who designed the shop Pierre Duex (incidentally Pierre Duex went out of business earlier this year but you can still find much of their wares at various resellers who scooped up loots from their sales. V sad).

Highly Truffle-approved! Petit Bateau is one of our favorite recent additions to Beverly Hills. Their one-year-old store on Brighton Way x Bedford Drive is the first on the entire West Coast. We are massive fans of this brand for children – and we don’t even have any – now that’s saying a lot. They recently have a women’s line as well now however which we will be checking out and a new Petit Bateau x 10 Corso Como collaboration collection (for those who aren’t familiar …. 10 Corso Como is the Barney’s of Italy). This pumpkin painting party next Friday is an open invitation to Bev Hills locals and Daily Truffle readers who would like to paint a pumpkin. Children, pumpkin painters and dogs are welcome. Woof! The Daily Truffle would like to extend a warm welcome to Equinox in Beverly Hills which has just replace the old SportsClub … This is the first location in Beverly Hills for Equinox and the old Sports Club members are v excited for the change. A group of 12 were overheard toasting the changeover at Taberna a block west on Friday when the Sports Club sign finally came down the Equinox sign went up. While the SportsClub are pros when it comes to their in-hotel gyms (they have one, for instance, inside the Ritz in Boston) … their work in Beverly Hills never quite won over the locals the way you imagine a private sports club in Beverly Hills could, or should … We hope to see the Equinox touches found in their WeHo club come to this new location – for instance,  a better scene at their restaurant, better products in the locker room, an Earth Bar would be amazing (bonus points if they do it), and for the Love of God — WIFI throughout! Not just in the lobby. With the iPad many people are opting to watch movies or TV online rather than the TV screens so a working connection is essential to please members.

Here at the Truffle, we could care less about million dollar renos and what tourists find appealing. Our question for the newly opened ‘Bel Air’ is not which new restaurant you may install, or what interior designers you used, but will you manage to re-gain the favor of the locals?

What some don’t realize about the Hotel Bel Air is that it is more than just a romantic weekend get-away. For those few and fortunate living in a 1 miles radius of the hotel, the bar and restaurant was the neighborhood watering hole and eatery. House accounts were the norm for those living on Bellagio and Bel Air Roads, who came here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and most famously – ‘apres dinner’. That’s the kind of bar scene we’re into. We’ll let you know how this developing story pans out. Guest check-in opened this past Friday following a few formal previews, and there will be an opening party this coming Thursday …

A tipster tells us there was a sniper scare in one of the buildings on Bedford Drive just south of Little Santa Monica Blvd in Beverly Hills yesterday afternoon. Cop cars swarmed the street and patrons to the local businesses were holed up inside a lobby of a medical building next to next to Crustacean restaurant until the area was clear. One woman who was rushed out of Anastasia (a premiere brow wax salon) was over heard saying: “but, they didn’t finish my other eyebrow”. TMZ cameras were on the scene although nothing has yet appeared on their website.

As far as we know, there was nothing to fear and patrons were released from the lobby after about an hour. This comes after a report of 20 cars on Robertson Blvd the day before in front of Le Pain Quotidien just between 3rd and Burton. Information on this incident is also appreciated.

Really Bravo? If you are going to cast people from Westlake (Kim) & Calabasas (Brandi) in the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, perhaps you should consider a name change? Bravo is wisely dubbing cast newcomers as “friends of the housewives.” But as we have learned from our friends in reality TV, apparently middle America has no interest in the truth and is just looking for the cat fights. C’est vrais?! Season 2 Cast includes: Dana Wilkey, Brandi Glanville, Taylor Armstrong, Adrienne Maloof, Lisa Vanderpump, Kyle Richards, Kim Richards, and Camille Grammer.

You know you are in good company when a Birkin bag is left unattended at a party for three hours and its PERFECTLY fine … The bag belonged to Sam Nazarian‘s sister Angella Nazarian, who were both in attendance with her husband David Nazarian, to get a sneak peek at the new photo album from Assouline, created by Cirque du Soleil CEO Guy Laliberté, on his last self-funded mission to space. Guy Laliberté has been making the rounds around Los Angeles for his upcoming new Cirque show IRIS premiering at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre on July 15. Also in the crowd were some of LA’s best brand-making ladies – Barbara Lazaroff who is often credited for bringing ex-husband Wolfgang Puck from the kitchen to the TV, and Lois Aldrin who is currently battling for her earnings as a key role player in her ex-husbands, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, recent renaissance back into pop-culture. Lois, who is famous around Beverly Hills for her bejeweled and stenciled nails, has gone back to her maiden name so she will hereafter be referred to on the Truffle as Lois Driggs Cannon.

Gaia, the book, comes in three different sizes ranging from $75, $900 and $7000 for the largest size, whose pages were being turned by a white cotton glove wearing lady. This book is only available for pre-order in store or on the Assouline website. Several ladies were lugging around oversized shopping bags with signed copies of the enourmous books on the side courtyard of the SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills.

For those of you unfamiliar with Guy, he is not only Cirque du Soliel’s founder and current CEO but he is also a billionaire. He started at as a street performer in Canada and built the show from the ground up. His passions are space travel and water issues around the globe – from lack of clean water to droughts to ocean pollution. His book is intended to overwhelmed the reader with grand visual of the Earth from space, where major mountain ranges look like brown scratches in a row and clouds look like speckled cottons clusters and the amount of blue water dwarfs every other color.

We will be back at the SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills next week for the launch of Jose Andres (the SLS resident chef who runs Bazaar on the lobby level) new lunch concept “Tres” which gives agents, business men and ladies on the go a lunch in 30 minutes.

Featuring his photographs of Earth—as seen from the International Space Station—this evocative piece showcases Laliberté’s captivation with Earth’s surface, showing the colors and textures of 40 countries visible from 220 miles away. The Wall Street Journal has an article out today called How to Spot a Fake, which explains fine stitching, chain detail, and the way high quality leather lays. But we at the Truffle want to warn an unknowing lady who reads this article, any good Truffle reader don’t need a guide. We just know. Rather it’s a single loose thread, hardware that’s slightly tarnished, a shade the designer never ever used, we just know. I have never seen a good fake bag and I have been shown everything from Bangok to SoHo and I am telling you, there is NO SUCH THING as a “good fake.” I cannot even tell you the amount of women I see walking down the street or at parties who have no idea how terrible their fakes are … and we all see them. A future victum of a fake bag probably won’t know these things since a fake bag shopper probably doesn’t shop or know the brand well enough to know these small differences – but trust us – it’s like being able to find your baby at daycare. They don’t all look the same.

A friend of mine brought me a faux LV bag when they were doing their baby blue and pink box bags. We were together for a finishing school course (*yes, I said finishing school) in Montreaux, Switzerland at the last-existing finishing school on the planet called Pierre Feux. My friend has plenty of money, but doesn’t care about high fashion. She’s more of a BCBG girl, as it were. Anyway I brought the bag to several of my more fashion minded friends in LA and even into the LV store on Rodeo when I got home just to see how bad it was – if there was any way I could wear it – since it was from a friend and all. The sales girls were super put off, but if there was a chance, I knew that was a way to find out. The bag was super cute but wasn’t a possible option. I keep it in my room til this day to remind me of my friend, who I adore. I use it for jewelry and beauty samples I get at the mall and so forth.

As much as I love it, I know it doesn’t look authentic. I implore every woman out there to trust me when I say, wearing a fake bag is like having red lipstick on your teeth and not knowing it. The reason many women cannot tell the difference, and there is a perpetuated myth that “good fakes” exist, is because they have never seen the real thing or are not use to looking at the real thing. Another embarrassing factor is that wait staff, catering staff and shop girls at boutiques all know the difference as well because they are use to looking at the real deal from clients and party guests.

Some of you might be saying, oh com’on whatever. I’m just gonna wear it anyway. I don’t even know anyone like that so what do I care. Well … have fun and don’t be surprised if you don’t feel popular at nicer restaurants or cooler parties – cuz this will be part of the reason. Most good doorman in LA weed out women by their shoes and bags. Surprise to all the ladies who are use to getting in the clubs because they are hot. A good club will only value a hot woman if she can fit in with their top clientele.

Another issue to look out for when spending money on bags, are brands like Furla, Bebe and Guess who will borrow trademarks from major designers like Prada, Fendi and Phillip Lim. To you, it may look ok. To us, it looks like you have no clue. And got ripped off. Sorry to say it y’all but personal style isn’t about copying or portraying an image that isn’t true.

The only time anyone should wear a fake is if they happen to love the fake and they can afford the real thing. Women with means often wear copies of jewelry as well when they keep the original real piece in a safe.

And finally, wearing a status symbol that is above your status is always in poor taste – rather it’s real or not.

What’s the deal with lines at Rite-Aid?  Since I was 5 they haven’t figured out how to deal with the check out counters. It’s astonishing I, and everyone else in town, still bother to go there. Locals still call it Thrifty. Persian kids from Beverly hang out in the parking lot. There are always homelss people. The underground parking is terrifying. Sometimes you are charged for parking, sometimes you are not. However, everybody goes anyway. We really shouldn’t but we do. And we will keep doing it. Because we have no choice. I promise my business to anyone who opens up another pharmacy near me WITH A PARKING LOT (NOT A PARKING STRUCTURE NEARBY).

Fact: Rite Aid won’t sell shaving cream in October.

If you look close you can see me taking the picture in the mirror! Uh, by the way, this mirror was specifically installed in my generation to keep the kids from stealing markers and spray paint. It’s now how I find my mom.

This is the shopping cart Rite Aid wants me to use. Awesome! Thanks Rite Aid. The whole store is just filthy. What’s with all those people camped out 24/7 near the blood pressure machine in the back?

Beverly Hills has a new Mayor! And guess what?! He is an L.A. native and Beverly high school grad. Barry Brucker was sworn in at the Samuel Gowldyn theatre on Wilshire last night along with new council members Julian Gold and Lili Bosse. Willie Brien is Vice Mayor and John Mirisch of the City Council was also honored.

The big message last night was efficiency, streamlining, no more red tape and helping businesses open faster in BH. New Mayor Barry Brucker even gave out his cell phone to the audience as a testament to how quickly he wants things to turn around.

Mayor Brucker also promised to Beverly Hills residents last night to start marketing and branding Beverly Hills better to increase additional sources of income outside the city. One of his major initiatives included a “Beverly Hills credit card” – photo of their mock up below. And he also mentioned twice that MGM is indeed moving to Beverly Hills – my friends tell me they are moving into the office space William Morris had originally ear-marked in the new office tower on Beverly and Wilshire. Barry also hinted that a “major sponsor” was in talks to host a massive holiday experience this year in Beverly Hills. Outgoing Mayor Jimmy Delshad (who was in office for 8 years, and clad in what looked like a bespoke Bijan suite) had a video montage of his life that emphasized his “technical” mark on Beverly Hills which included upgrading parking meters to accept credit cards and smart sprinkler systems among other things. Other Beverly Hills thumb prints in his re-cap included a Beverly Hills perfume (?), two new “sister cities” in Israel and China (??) and three new city events held in 2010: Fashion Night Out, 9021-Snow and Taste of Beverly Hills (the Wagstaff/Jeff Best produced food festival). Jimmy also talked about his days as a janitor when he first arrived to the US from Iran and credited America with providing him an opportunity to live the life he’s lived. He emphasized that he feels he made Beverly Hills a more “friendly city” which is probably true; no one can argue the fun spirited and sweetness; some of my friends began referring to him as ‘Papa Jimmy’ after he Emceed Taste of Beverly Hills and reminded them of more of a proud papa at a wedding / Bar Mitzvah than a politician. Thank you for your service Mayor Delshad. Jimmy will remain in Beverly Hills politics as the head of the Technology Commission.

We heart Wendy Stark. She is the god mother of one of our Trufflers here and, for those of you who don’t know, the daughter or Ray Stark who was quite the producer (Funny Girl, The Way We Were) here in L.A. She just hosted an opening for the new LACMA restaurant called Ray’s and a lounge called the Stark Bar via a gift from the Stark Foundation. Wendy is also a LACMA trustee, and the Los Angeles editor of Vanity Fair. NBD (no big deal).

Guess what? Remember when William Morris sold their 3 Beverly Hills buildings and leased space in the new high rise on Canon and Wilshire, but then merged with Endeavour who had space for them, but William Morris would have left the lease anyway because the building also rented to Gersh which was against their non-compete clause?

Well, guess who is going to fill oh those many offices left empty by William Morris’ broken lease? We hear MGM !! Our truffle hunters tell us MGM just signed a lease on the property and are moving out of their Century City tower and into the new Beverly Hills building. Mazel Tov!

They aren’t the only ones making deals … Equinox fitness finally signed a lease in the Bank of America building in Beverly Hills which measn you’ll know where to find us! Our trufflers tell us that Equinox had originally bid on the Sports Club L.A. location located on Camden underneath William Morris Endeavor but lost it to the rival gym.

In other Beverly Hills news … Tom Ford will FINALLY open his boutique (YESSSSSSSSS!) on Rodeo Drive this week. Big opening on Thursday this week …

We also have a sit down coming soon with Cedar Sinai’s head of Anesthesiology, Dr. Julian Gold, who is running for Beverly Hills city council (VOTE MARCH 8, 2011). His platform is highly endorse by The Daily Truffle and we will get in that more in the next couple days.

We also went on a tour of the construction site which will one day soon be the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills on Canon between Santa Monica and Little Santa Monica Blvd. We have pics, deets and stories coming soon about the historic Post Office but for now please watch this video about the project!

Jose Eber – construction store front on Camden Dr. – Jose and his team are currently working out of the Juan Juan salon a block over which is crazy because Juan was a long time apprentice of Jose who started his own salon and took along several Jose Eber employees including the infamous old school colorist Gary (no last name needed) who is now at LMG on La Cienega. (LMG stands for Laurent, Maurice, Gary – all former employees at Jose Eber) - (*NOW OPEN)

Equinox – uh, yes it’s true! at least it’s true we’ve heard rumors from our real estate friends, BH locals and even instructors at the Sports Club L.A. in Beverly Hills. According to what we’ve heard, Equinox has signed a lease and preparing to renovate a building on Wilshire Blvd literally one block from the Sports Club L.A. in Beverly Hills! Word is that Equinox is still bitter from loosing the space to Sports Club and is moving across the street to make their life miserable. We also hear there membership dues will be half as much. Current Sports Club L.A. dues are $160.
