ART OPENING: Liza Lou at L&M Arts in Venice

On view at L&M Arts in Venice is Liza Lou‘s newest collection of amazing confections … Anyone familiar with this LA artist’s work has got to make their way to see two galleries worth of her latest pieces she has been composing whilst in Durban, South Africa. Lou has been working with Zulu artisans for the previous six years, tho not in the traditional beadwork the tribe is known for.

My favorite compositions are the most sublime; stacked sheet of ‘paper’, which of course are not so, but in fact are hand beaded layers upon layers topped with two ‘sheets’ curling at the edges….. wow! Tongue in cheek references to her handiwork is personified in the ‘spinning wheel’ sculpture… completely made up of tiny gold plated tube beads …! Continue reading

Art Opening: Gia Coppola & Louis Eisner Group Show Opening

invitation for frank pic opening

It was quite a reception Saturday night for all the YPT on the Westside for the opening of a group show at Frank Pictures gallery in Bergamont Station.

Then again, what would you expect when the offspring of such L.A. luminaries like Jacqui Coppola Getty and Eric & Lisa Eisner, (check Lisa out in the current French Vogue guest edited by her pal Tom Ford!!), Gia Coppola (looking effortlessly chic in Chinese PJ trousers), continues captivating a certain sensual innocence that is oh so appealing, here with frequent collaborator Natalie Love as model (mom is Lisa Love, L.A. based Vogue editor).

Louis Eisner was supported not only by his parents but also in attendance were Roman Alonso from Commune and his DJ bro Charlie Eisner.

Impressive work from a roster of mostly under 25ers , my fave was a wax sculture by Jane Moseley, who recently shared a group show with Sage Grazer (daughter of Brian Grazer, no name dropping here …) in NYC at Elga Wimmer gallery. Cute peeps, brooskies and eye candy of the art type and we were more than satisfied with a well spent evening …

MOCA Gala 2010

THIS IS A HAPPENING! I consider a great LA night when a convergence of local talent is pooled to create a memorable shared experience; last night MOCA delivered … IN SPADES! After the red carpet and cocktail hour where I never quite made it into the exhibit titled ‘The Artist’s Museum’, organized by Rebecca Morse (then again, I didn’t make it to the exhibit last year as well….); guests proceeded into the tent that was erected in the middle of Grand Avenue downtown LA for the MOCA Winter Gala envisioned by artist Doug AitkenRachel Bilson, Chloe Sevigny, Mila Kunis, Elodie Bouchez, Kate Bostworth, Peter Marino, Kristen Dunst, Ginnifer Goodwin … flanked by their publicists and BFF’s at the Chanel table, Chanel fine jewelry being a sponsor for the evening; needless to say plenty of sprarkly bobbles and lace abounded at the longest table in the room.
