I feel in love with Andrew Yang’s hand made dolls a few months ago (doll-gasm!), but was so busy that I did not have time to blog about them… Now I do! Given my mega unhealthy obsession with Nick Knight’s Show Studio, art, fashion, cartoons, dolls and couture you can see why this is so exciting for me … It’s like discovering Fifi Lapin, the Mulberry paper dolls, the Couture Designer Mice or the doll collections from Viktor & Rolf x Lanvin for the first time.

Fall 2010 Fashion: Dior Couture Show en Paris

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

The first thing I thought of while looking at the images from this show was the Flower Song from Alice in Wonderland.

Instead of my usual coverage from Couture shows (history, collages, details, front row scoop, etc) I have decided to just post some spectacular pictures from Olivier Zahm’s blog, Purple Diary.  I will be back to my old tricks come October for THE REAL Paris Fashion Week.

I just HAD to do something on this show because A. You know my favorite things ever are ball gowns and dress up, and B. The house, flowers, and some gowns remind me of Alice in Wonderland, which I admit I need help with as everything I see reminds me somehow of the book or films!

Anthony House in Cornwall, GB, used in Alice in Wonderland (2010)

I am obsessed with the abstract angles that these pictures were shot at; I want a few framed and put on my walls!  I’m also fascinated and in loveee with the up close pictures, I feel like I’m there and could touch the fabric.  These up close shots do much more for me than Style.com’s detail and beauty shots.

I included Olivier in piece I did with Blogs.com on the top 10 Fashion/ Party Photographers

Fashion Week SS11: Karl Lagerfeld for Hogan film premiere, Tsimori Chisato, Les Nuits Blanches, Azzaro (Paris)

Karl Lagergeld, Janet Jackson - Pic from WWD

02nd Oct. Paris

Tsimori Chisato @ Hotel Westin:

Nautical gone Tsimoriland features sequined knitted briefs topped with stripes, flowers and yet more sparkles! We had the usual quilted motifs on mini caftans and flowey, empire waisted dresses paired in cool hues of peach, turqoise and yellow … each look topped with slick Samarai knotted coifs … take note!

Azzaro Formal presentation @ Boutique on Faubourg Saint-Honore:

Tagged along with mon copine Darryl for an old style presentation at the super groovy salon @ Azzaro … mirror paneled walls hid dressing rooms, office and toilette … an intimate group which included NY Times writer Eric Wilson who shared a couch with me … lots of short dresses and jewels galore, mostly decorative ‘necklaces’ or delicate diamante bows made for pretty back views and looks we will surely be seeing on the red carpet

Designer Vanessa Seward looked splendid as always; glowing after having her first baby a few months ago, her husband music producer Bertrand Burgalat provided the music…. cool, easy and tres French – voila!

Karl Lagerfeld for Hogan screening premiere:

The fashion creme de la creme converged Saturday evening to view the latest of the many projects Kaiser Karl is miraculously able to juggle … there was Franca Sozzani of Italian Vogue, Nick Rhodes (who performed with band Duran Duran @ Fendi fete the following night), Janet Jackson, Stephen Dorff with leggy model, wonderful Marisa Berenson, more beautiful in person … and of course the usual publication elite: Suzy Menkes, Stefano Tonchi, Anna Wintour

Les Nuits Blanches:

An annual event that coincides with FW, each year a different theme, this time artistic director Martin Bethenod showcased the visual arts …. great opportunity to explore the many old churches and ‘hotel particuleurs’ that serve as venues for a variety of sensory provoking work … oh, and there’s also plenty of drinking on the streets … ha!

Fashion Week Couture SS10: Channel you inner Chanel (Paris)

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Reposted from: January 26th, 2010

Erm.. This is very hard for me, because as some of you know, Chanel is my #1 or #2 favorite design house in the entire world. I have been waiting months for this show, and was less than impressed. I am aware that these clothes took hours/ weeks to make, but they are lacking the overall “couture” look. Click to Continue Reading

Obsession of the Moment: Designer Mice (must-have stocking stuffer!)

It’s all Disney’s fault.
(RIP Roy Disney, he died today, December 16th, 2009)

My favorite thing to read everyday is New York Magazine’s: The Cut. While doing my daily reading, I came across this new post about Anna Wintour as Anna Wintermouse and Karl Lagerfeld as a mouse. My face instantly lit up and I believe the words that came out of my mouth were, ” Ahhhhh omfg, this is the cutest thing ever.” Chanel + Mice = me with a huge smile! It was at this time that I decided the fair and beloved readers of the Daily truffle needed to see this !

Amy Odell, writer for The Cut, says in this post, ” However the whole thing gives us an idea: an animated feature like Ratatouille but with mice doing fashion things, like going to Mice Fashion Week, instead of food thing.” I think I should send this article to John Lasseter, head of Disney Pixar :) (I have a major Disney obsession)

I showed this adorable article to a friend and she was less than amused.  I began to ponder why I have such a thing for cute mice….. and then it hit me: Ever since I can remember, there have been mice in compromised situations and I have always wanted to help them, be it real life or animated films slash books.

When I was around seven, I told my mother that when I grew up I was going to buy all the pet stores in the world so that people could not buy mice to feed to their pet snakes….that or just kill snakes worldwide (If you have read previous articles of mine you know I HATE snakes.)

Aw !

Aw !

My dad and sister hate all rodents (Caroline does too).  A few weeks after we moved into our new house, many years ago, my mom saw a rat in our backyard and my dad called his realtor because he wanted to move (We did not move).  My dad has a strange man named “George (Horhay) ” who comes to our house and changes various mouse traps… This upsets me every time.  To this day, I still buy my dad rubber rats that squeak, toy mice for cats, and mice that you pull a string and they run around the room, just to bother him :)

I have always loved these adorable little creatures because of the movies I have seen over the span of my twenty four years; I have always wanted to help them out of there scary situations.

Here are some of my favs !

Special condolences from ME, Lauren Brokaw, go to the talented and super cool, Luella Bartley, whose label caught the recession flu and died, November 10th, 2009.

Luella ella ella ay ay

Luella ella ella ay ay

Not only should she be given an award for using bows all of the time and for having the cutest name ever, but she also deserves an award for her creativity, originality, and her mentality of being fearless and a bit kooky.

Unlike other high end designer brands, the customer who wore Luella was all about looking fashion forward and having a good time.

I loved Luella’s collections because they they never copied slash followed any upcoming trends, yet they always felt so current and new.

Something about this brand always screamed I‘m cute, english, and I follow the beat of my own drum, which has made me an “it” girl.
