Tonight in #LA: Mitt Romney at the Beverly Hills Hotel, G Star opens on Rodeo, and Sherlock Holmes 2 premieres in Westwood — and duh, Morty Coyle’s annual 28th again

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Tuesday — LOS ANGELES: Competing soirees tonight should divide the city rather evenly … while the grown ups are heading over to Mitt Romney’s fundraiser at the Beverly Hills hotel — or the pink hotel as some like to call it — the kids will be over at the opening of the new G Star on Rodeo Drive. Elsewhere … our Hollywood contingency will be at the Sherlock Holmes 2 premiere at the Village Regency in Westwood with Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law and Rachel McAdams. Click to Continue Reading

Fail of the Moment: Texts from Bennett

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

This blog was not funny — but the fact that it has gotten soooooo much news coverage and hype over if it’s real or fake has made it newsworthy. It’s shocking how something so uninteresting has captured the interest of so much media — and therein lies our interest. Here is one of the better entries (right) and as you will see, it’s just ok. We don’t recommend reading through the entire thing but if you have heard about the site or noticed your friends posting about it on Facebook and want to investigate for yourself, here is the link.

Pluses include: We like the idea of using screen captures of convos between friends as a form of blogging and we are very familiar with the ‘white guy who thinks he’s gangster’ syndrome. And some of it is mildly funny.

The Smoking Gun and several other media outlets are reporting the blog owner claims that Bennett is a real life cousin but that the father of the blogger says it’s all invented. Way to blow his ride, dad.

Gossip Girl Vocab vol. 4

Gossip Girl

If you regularly watch GG, you know the references and cameos that are straight from the real fashion world and Upper East Side — here were some from last night’s episode:

Karen Finley — Lily explains that her sister hired this performance artist to take her place when she was suppose to make her grand debut at her deb ball — Karen was the recipient of a federal arts grants that was reneged because her work was too vulgar (remind you of the recent MOCA gala anyone??).

Matthew Lynch from Women’s Wear Daily — This true life fashion/party journalist came to the Empire to cover Charlie’s coming out party. Rufus introduces him to Charlie before swooping him off the bar to get a drink (don’t you love how into Lily’s social life he can get?). Matthew asks Charlie who she is wearing and she replies Badgley Mischka. You can follow ML on his Twitter and Tumblr here (@mbradylynch) and here (http://certifiedgangsta.tumblr.com). PS – what’s with Charlie’s funky white blazer she wears out of the party? #fail

Camp Allen — A retreat for the most amazing people on the planet much like the Skull and Bones retreat seen in The Good Shepherd or the Bohemian Club fraternity retreats at Bohemian Grove in Northern California – as noted by Chuck’s reaction to Nate’s announcement that “Grandfather” was taking him. “World domination by day, debauchery by night” — Chuck says of those invited to attend.

Addendum from last week’s episode — Chuck’s weird party was actually held at Punchdrunk’s immersive theater experience Sleep No More in New York (this interactive theatre sets up in NY and London every year and half and has a 5 or 6 month run — tickets sell out, groups of 20 are allowed in at a time, those white masks with the long noses are mandatory and handed out and people are encouraged to engage with the props and sets — one friend of ours dug through a wardrobe which turned out to open into the back side of a fire place in the next room).

#TruffleNotes: Leonardo di Caprio took Blake Lively on a date in real life here when they were dating. Coincidence?? I think not.

Real Estate: Is Beverly Hills immune to power outages?

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare
LADWP reports 24k and Edison reports 100k STILL without power in L.A. today as a result of the wind storm from Thursday.

When a friend living in an affecting area today asked me if I had power (as he could not get the LSU / Georgia game) I paused before answering and said: I don’t know how to better put this … but Beverly Hills never looses power.

Friday Restaurant Suggestion: Caulfield’s Beverly Hills

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

The best thing about going in to Caulfield’s is Laurie (the owner) chases you out with caramel at the end of your meal. Made in house, the caramel is always kept in a basket at the front entrance underneath a chalkboard which changes daily for specials. The last time I was in for lunch, Lauri came all the way out to the valet to bring me some, as the basket had run dry.

We decided we want to start doing restaurant dinner suggestions on The Daily Truffle and we are starting with Caulfield’s for many reasons. First off, Click to Continue Reading

The Truffle Asks — Win or Fail? Gaga’s directorial debut for 13 Minute Long new video “Marry The Night”

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

In true Lady Gaga fashion (no pun intended), this video both intrigued and confused me…1/2 Girl Interrupted and Black Swan 1/2 Gaga’s creative insanity, Ms. Gaga has definitely not disappointed with this 13 minute long eye opening ‘oh so dramatic’ vid for Marry The Night.

Filled with bedazzled denim, naked Gaga bathing in cereal, crazy stiletto nails, cars up in flames, multiple hair colors, and oh yes, let’s not forget 15 inch ballet shoes- Marry The Night could not be more Gaga. Click to Continue Reading

Meet the FW 2011 ‘it’ shoe: Miu Miu Glitter bootie

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Ok, we have all seen this shoe by now (which originally made it’s debut during SS 2011 fashion week in New York this past September on at least 20 prominent editors, celebrities and it girls) and we don’t want to be the bearer of bad old news but this shoe is now on sale and because it is a little … specific shall we say, we thought it would be good 411 to know. This Miu Miu Glitter and suede peep-toe ankle boot was $890 and is now $623. If you need a gift for a 16 – 45 year old woman, any daughter, girlfriend or hip wife would appreciate this for Christmas or one of the various other holidays. Also not a bad gift to get yourself and of course you barely need to wrap it because it’s already sooooo sparkley. 10 more pics and shots of ladies who’ve worn this shoe … Click to Continue Reading

Magda Berliner Lace Collection Trunk Show — Art Basel Miami

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

While you are at Art Basel this week, might we suggest taking a break from partying with Pharrell to shop the Lace Collection from LA native Magda Berliner who is having a trunk show at Curve in Miami Dec 2 – 3.

The Lace Collection “MLB” is made up of signature, one-of-a-kind, hand assembled from vintage, lace dresses. In-the-know fashion devotees, such as MK and Ashley Olsen, and the Traina sisters have long been fans of Berliner’s one-of-a-kind, hand assembled from vintage, lace frocks, tops and skirts. A selection of styles will be on hand at Curve in Art Basel this weekend for orders and purchase; styles are reproduced in silhouette — yet components of garment are unique to that piece.

Delivery!! Style Firm Yoga Pants!

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

A few of our friends recently started this line of fat-proof yoga pants — not that we need it, but we can appreciate a good idea when we see one. The ladies behind the brand are the same girls who’ve been working the backstage fashion show circuit in L.A. for the past decade got their training at Macy’s in-house events department. These two have seen models making multiple changes behind the scenes and therefore can be considered experts when it comes to knowing what makes a good looking rear. Click to Continue Reading

Trek Nation to premiere on Science Network: November 30th, 2011.

Gene Roddenberry, The Creator of Star Trek, also known as “The Great Bird of the Galaxy” passed away in 1991. His Son Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, Jr. was only 17 years old.

Introducing Mercedes Benz Driving Academy on 3rd Street next to Toast!!

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Later, Westwood Driving school? Mercedes’ new driving school is basically the coolest thing on the planet. We saw our friend Jill Eisenstadt-Chayet who reps Mercedes Benz at this year’s Luxury Review (a whole other truffle) and she dropped this bomb on us that Mercedes just opened a driver’s ed program on 3rd Street next to Toast.

3rd Street is about to see a major infusion from Harvard-Westlake, Brentwood, Buckley, Beverly, Crossroads and other area schools. MBDA is making the rounds to both L.A. private and public schools to introduce their programs — if you don’t see them soon, it’s because someone in your school’s admin dept didn’t get it. Not to worry though because Mercedes is currently offering promotional free sessions to introduce their new school to the area — the next two are on Saturday this weekend.

The training car at this year's Luxury Review at the Petersen Museum Nov '11

Free parent-teen sessions:
Saturday, Dec 3rd – 10:00-11:30 A.M.
Saturday, Dec 3rd – 2:00-3:30 P.M.

Saturday, Dec 17th – 10:00-11:30 A.M.

Workshops are held at 8231 W. 3rd St. Los Angeles, CA 90048.

#TruffleNote: MBDA is the only driving school with access to an LAPD training facility (“EVOC Training Center”) for training sessions — pretty cool. Click to Continue Reading

#newLA: The Art of Shaving, Now Open in Beverly Hills [SLIDESHOW]

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

There are a couple things to know about the new Art of Shaving that just opened on Brighton Way — half a block from Rodeo Drive. It’s huge, it’s pretty, and they have cappuccino. This mens salon, though women are welcome, opened last Wednesday and will have their official opening party next week hosted by George Kotsiopoulos. 8 barber chair stations offer hot shaves and hair cuts to men. We happened to notice a certain special product that we wanted to mention and put out there — a sulfate-free (suds-free for the rookie) mens facial cleanser. It’s rare enough to find these for women so seeing one for a man was quite impressive! In fact, we’ve added it to our xmas rec list.

If Pockets Talked x Milk Boutique on 3rd — Month long vintage pop up — Buy and Sell

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

For those of us staying in town this Thanksgiving weekend, might we suggest spending your Black Friday on 3rd Street perusing the new deliveries to Milk boutique? A vintage pop-up inside the shop is bringing you some new vêtements to choose from via Masha Gordon’s re-sell site If Pockets Talked …

It was quite the L.A. alumni scene at the launch party for this collaboration between Masha and Milk owners Bari Milken Bernstein and Marni Flans. All three girls are L.A. natives and as natives like to represent, we saw support from all their alma maters and a few others — Cossroads, Beverly, Brentwood, Buckley and HW – along with fashion publicists, bloggers, designers, DJs, and husbands of the ladies.
