Meryl Streep’s daughters — Mamie Gummer, Grace Gummer and Louisa Gummer — are dead ringers for their mom. Grace and Mamie are both actresses, Mamie having a guest role as a lawyer on The Good Wife (she also had a deleted scene in mom’s “The Devil Wears Prada” in 2006) and Grace having a small roll in “Larry Crowne” with Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks.

Welcome to the home of Mr. Greentrees, one of LA’s longest lasting Christmas tree stores … and a second generation business that was handed down mother to daughter. This is the same lo-cal that also brings you Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch during Halloween and we’ve been asking them for ‘bunny land’ at Easter, but we’ll see … Rebecca Campbell who started the company, and works on a CHRISTMAS TREE FARM (!!) up in Oregon, is like a young Mrs. Claus with fluffy blonde hair (it’s almost tinsel silver!) and a pretty face and tons of stories about Christmas — and LA families who buy her trees (now her daughter’s trees).

She can tell you anything — like why you can’t find a silver tip, the Rolls Royce of xmas trees, in Los Angeles anymore (it’s because they grow at much higher elevations and are therefore much more expensive than lower elevation trees and of course the popular preference is a more bushy tree), but she also knows about LA people and what kind of trees they like. We spotted a few interesting name tags going to LA homes like Ms. Huffington (she actually had 2 tagged!!) and Greenacres — a Benedict Canyon estate currently owned by billionaire Ron Burkle who has been known to throw quite the ragers at his home with A list entertainment like Mariah Carey.

Every night in Beverly Hills, the Cartier guards come out and take inventory of the jewels before pulling them from the window for the evening. Every year, Cartier dresses up the store for Christmas with a big red bow that wraps around the entire corner of Rodeo & Brighton.

No one takes Christmas more seriously than the late Bijan of Beverly Hills. Though he passed earlier this year, the store still upholds his traditional Santa Claus’s trying to deliver presents through every window of the store. They also still park his custom yellow Phantom or Veyron in front of his store, one of the best marketing ideas I’ve ever seen, as everyone stops to take pictures and those photos get taking back and shown to people at all poins of the globe. This store is actually one of the prettiest stores on Rodeo Drive — both front and back if you drive around the alley — because it was left in tact from it’s previous tenant who designed the shop Pierre Duex (incidentally Pierre Duex went out of business earlier this year but you can still find much of their wares at various resellers who scooped up loots from their sales. V sad).

Marvin Saul — owner of Los Angeles Landmark Junior’s Delicatessen and general local celebrity – passed away Thursday morning from a heart attack leaving a wake of L.A. history and nostalgia among those he knew, catered for and served at the deli. Services will be held tomorrow (Sunday, December 11, 2011) at 9am at Mount Sinai / Forest Lawn in Burbank with a reception held at the Saul family home afterwards with catering from Juniors. All are welcome — Marvin’s friends from years past, and friends of the deli, are encouraged to attend.

Marvin opened Juniors 50 years ago, and has served all of Hollywood and L.A. including Mel Brooks (one of his long time friends), Danny Thomas, Milton Berle, Anne Bancroft, Armand Hammer (who use to sit at the counter), Jerry Perenchio, and many more.  Click to Continue Reading

Pretty in bows, jumpsuits and booties, Mrs. Taylor enlisted the help of LA girls to suit up in some of her hallmarks designs. Those girls included Rashida Jones in a navy RB jumpsuit, and Kristen Bell — who both who created one-of-a-kind tote bags that were (silent) auctioned off at Rebecca Taylor’s opening. Spotted! No, not Ben Harmon or Adelaide, but the star of the new hit FX show American Horror Story, meaning the haunted house with a murderous past that resides on the precipice of Hancock Park and Korea Town in Los Angeles … and has quite an interesting history.

While most shows just use the facade of a house but film on a sound stage, AHS actually films in this house. These pictures give me the chills — I cannot imagine filming anywhere on the premises let alone inside! Click to Continue Reading

Some notes from the fundraiser for our Truffler GOPs out there … Harry Sloan, the former MGM chief turned investor (he is now the CEO of Global Eagle Acquisition Corporation), organized the first Los Angeles fundraiser for Mitt last night at the Beverly Hills Hotel, per an intention he made clear earlier this fall as reported in the Hollywood Reporter.

#TruffleNotes: THR recently named Harry as a ‘player(s) getting top billing in the 2012 drama’ in an article entitled Election ’12: The Hollywood Players

Eva & Marc Stern (who is the chairman of the board of LA Opera, a member of the Music Center Board of Directors, and lives in Malibu) acted as event hosts along with Tracy & Gene Sykes (of Goldman Sachs), Canyon Partners hedge fund manager Josh Friedman (who introduced the potential nominee) and his wife Beth. Mitt’s wife did not join him for this trip.

The dinner was chicken, the crowd was about 200 – 300, and the message was clear: America is a place that works because you can work hard and get ahead. Steep taxes on the rich will drive their motivation downwards.

The ticket prices were $2500 per person, which is the maximum allowable donation anyone can give a single candidate. Beyond that you can give any amount to the GOP or democratic party who in turn gives it to the nominee — when they have one. Click to Continue Reading

I remember when G-Star had their showroom opening on Wilshire Blvd a year or two ago and was lighting up on everyone’s Twitter feeds. This store is a different scenario. It’s a retail shop for one thing and they have taken over a bold space in the struggling Rodeo Collection that historically has trouble filling their spaces.
