Our readership covers a segment of society looking for a more intimate read on what and who makes L.A. tick. We are seeking spring interns to help with:
TECH / WEB – web design and development in php and wordpress. Also looking for help with help with apps, plugins, SEO and social media integration.
EDITORIAL, PR & MARKETING - web marketing, photos, graphics, PR, editorial, advertising, fashion editorial, SEO, and more.
INTERN 1: WEB MARKETING & PR
INTERN 1: WEB MARKETING & PR INTERN
Duties:
- SEO – Link planting on Chat boards, Comment sections on other websites.
- Maintain accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, Polyvore, Instagram, Pose, Klout, Look.
- Photo editing including making collages, preliminary collages we will modify, and doing preliminary research for collages. Organizing slideshows, adding DT logo, renaming photos SEO friendly names, re-sizing photos and using photoshop to create borders, use filters and titles to make .
- Manage daily lists of hot topics, relevant stories elsewhere on the web, on-going lists of new fashion blogs or note-worthy blog posts, trends in fashion, new apps, new media, new faces in fashion, TV, film, music. (We will start you off on this in a shared server we can all see and add to)
- Occasional informal photoshoots at resutanrats, stoers, showrooms and more.
- Research, find and create links for stories to relevant merchandise through our partners (a list will be provided of ad sites where we have deals)
- Creating innovating logos and site design elements
- Create marketing campaigns and come up with ideas to attain more readers
- PR duties – Daily email blasts to other website with notices of content they may want to link to
- PR duties — Research opportunities for The Daily Truffle to be featured on print, web and TV and create various pitches and (you will be provided with tools to help with this)
- Loading stories on our Huffington Post and Haute Living columns and checking in with our contacts there to let them know we have a new story for their review
- Turn links into Google news friendly links (something required to enter their news feed)
- Find, change and load good ads on the website on a daily basis from our partners (you’ll be provided access to Linkshare and Commission junction for this)
| Required skills: Access to internet connection at all times, basic understanding of how these websites work and willingness and desire to play with and have fun with our accounts. Knowledge of and access to Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Access to a camera, flash drive, internet connection at all times.Ideal Candidate: This person will be up on pop culture, music, TV shows, politics and current events – will read fashion/lifestyle magazines regularly, be aware of designers, editors, fashion press, high profile figures and more. |

INTERN 2: TECH/WEB DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT INTERN
INTERN 2: TECH/WEB DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT INTERN
Duties:
- We do all our design and development in-house. We are looking for a tech-savvy self-starter who would like to have an a website he or she maintains and designed on his or her resume. We are not looking to make major changes but to improve our current design and integrate more ideas towards an improved site. We are heading to something along the lines of http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/
- We will be looking to develop an app (not from scratch — WordPress has simple programs that are easy to use) and a new calendar page, L.A. hot spots listing, interactive maps and other specialized pages such as these.
- We plan to stay on WordPress as long as possible and would like to incorporate more content by adding secondary blogs with latest posts streamed, add a third column, a horizontal container with thumbnails to featured posts, possibly a slider, enabling different CSS in posts so that not every entry is force to look the same, and more.
- Search Engine Optimization maintenance — We have a site audit for an intern to work off that details the exact duties of SEO to optimize the site. These functions can be shared with the WEB MARKETING intern.
| Required skills: Full knowledge of WordPress. Basic understanding of PHP and the ability to manipulate and reverse engineer in PHP. Access to internet connection and necessary programs at all times. Willingness to perform basic SEO duties and Google site tools duties – prior knowledge of Google site tools and SEO is a bonus. Willingness to explore and possibly reverse engineer from other sites to develop working pages quickly for the developments mentioned above. MUST BE ABLE TO TURN WORK AROUND QUICKLY – if we ask for a widget to be research or new part of the site to be implemented we will want to see some examples or tests run by the next day. |

INTERN 3: EDITORIAL / PHOTO INTERN (15 – 30 hours a week)

Duties:
- Short and Long lead story research and development (incl calling into production companies, celeb publicists and stylists, hotel publicists, etc. to confirm and attain info)
- Editing for humor & tone
- Editing for consistency
- Spell-checking & grammar
- Manage story calendar & reoccurring columns
- Create on-going lists of premiere dates, prep and post coverage (we have several resources to use for this)
- Manage reoccurring columns and make sure we have content lined up to fill them
- Post #LinkLove daily — list of hot topics and interesting stories from the web
- Log into network and studio accounts to check out TV and film behind the scenes shots, premiere footage, movie posters and trailers
- Go through press releases and pitches and reply when needed
- In the mornings, scan the web for our daily Truffles on the Web post which pulls like-minded stories from a list of websites provided
- Review articles before they are posted for grammar, spelling and fact check
| Required Skills: An ideal candidate has a long term desire to be a journalist, reporter or writer in the luxury, entertainment or social spectrum. The editorial intern will be responsible for maintaining the editorial calendar which contains long lead Truffles, reoccurring Truffles, and one-off reviews, party posts, and brief Truffles on current events, trends and fashion. Imagination, wit, creativity and humor are key. |
