Introducing Mercedes Benz Driving Academy on 3rd Street next to Toast!!

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Later, Westwood Driving school? Mercedes’ new driving school is basically the coolest thing on the planet. We saw our friend Jill Eisenstadt-Chayet who reps Mercedes Benz at this year’s Luxury Review (a whole other truffle) and she dropped this bomb on us that Mercedes just opened a driver’s ed program on 3rd Street next to Toast.

3rd Street is about to see a major infusion from Harvard-Westlake, Brentwood, Buckley, Beverly, Crossroads and other area schools. MBDA is making the rounds to both L.A. private and public schools to introduce their programs — if you don’t see them soon, it’s because someone in your school’s admin dept didn’t get it. Not to worry though because Mercedes is currently offering promotional free sessions to introduce their new school to the area — the next two are on Saturday this weekend.

Free parent-teen sessions:
Saturday, Dec 3rd – 10:00-11:30 A.M.
Saturday, Dec 3rd – 2:00-3:30 P.M.
Saturday, Dec 10th – 10:00-11:30 A.M.
Saturday, Dec 10th – 2:00-3:30 P.M.
Saturday, Dec 17th – 10:00-11:30 A.M.
Saturday, Dec 17th – 2:00-3:30 P.M.

Workshops are held at 8231 W. 3rd St. Los Angeles, CA 90048.

#TruffleNote: MBDA is the only driving school with access to an LAPD training facility (“EVOC Training Center”) for training sessions — pretty cool. Click to Continue Reading

“You Still Owe Us a Dollar” – Harvard-Westlake

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

After 6 years of tuition + donations thank you Harvard-Westlake for sending my mom a bill for $1.81 two months after graduation

Spotted: Loyola High School Varsity Basketball Player Ryan Oliver (class of ’11) at Undefeated on La Brea

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Ryan Oliver (Loyola '11, Varsity Basketball) & Whitney Woods (LACES)

Spotted this weekend at Undefeated on La Brea … Ryan Oliver (Loyola ’11) and Whitney Woods. Loyola just had it’s graduation last week along with Harvard-Westlake and most other L.A. private schools. We spotted the varsity b-baller buying shoes at Undeafted yesterday with his lady friend Whitney Woods (LACES). Ryan was rocking his “Beat Harvard-Westlake” t-shirt – hundreds of these were made to support Loyola at a big game held at HW earlier this semester that drew such rowdy crowds from both campuses the game was shut down before private school warfare turned nasty.

Prom Schedule 2011 – L.A. Private Schools (Brentwood, Harvard-Westlake, Crossroads, etc.)

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Spring is here; the flowers are blooming, the days are getting warmer, and every weekend girls in gowns and boys in tuxes board limos and set off on the ‘best night of their lives’. That’s right: it’s Prom Season. So here’s everything you need to know about the L.A. private school Prom scene. Think of it as your Prom cheat sheet.

Harvard-Westlake

When: May 14th
Location: Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood
Ticket Price: $100
Theme: None
King/Queen: The winners were a musical theater prodigy for King and an athletic, academic, student council member for Queen.
Afterparty: A few small house parties for one or two limos (15-80 kids)
Stand-out Outfits: Pimp stick/fedora combo, barely-there Haider Ackerman dress,
and a Badgley Mischka couture dress
Point of Interest: Harvard-Westlake students had to sign a contract promising they
would not “appear under the influence at the event” or attend, plan, or buy tickets to
a “non-residential afterparty”. This was due to bad behavior at the HW Semi-Formal
afterparty
Best Ask: A Facebook wall video serenade, interrupting English class with 8 people
holding 8 signs reading “Will You Go To Prom With Me, Celine?”  Click to Continue Reading

L.A. prep school gives kids the green light for Coachella

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Every April, hordes of L.A. private school kids adorned in denim cutoffs and designer sunglasses flock to Indio for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. It’s more than a weekend trip; it’s a mass migration. They come from schools all over Los Angeles: Brentwood, Harvard-Westlake, Crossroads, New Roads, Campbell Hall, and so on. As a result, schools are faced with the issue of what to do about attendance on the Friday of Coachella. Harvard-Westlake chose to deal with the issue by allowing students to take an excused day off, as long as they sign a form giving the consent of their parents and teachers.

However, less of these kids will be flooding the rooms of La Quinta Resort in Palm Springs this year since many are left without tickets. The festival sold out in less than a week. Still, that hasn’t stopped some from dropping $500 and up on a scalper ticket, while others get them through parents in the industry.  Click to Continue Reading

On Campus: USC News Station Interviews the Photographer behind the Kappa Sigma Sex Tape (VIDEO)

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Per the Daily Trojan, the USC Panhellenic and USC Interfraternity councils met tonight to devise an “action plan” to rehabilitate the image of the Greek Community amidst the recent bad exposure of all male fraternity Kappa Sigma.

This follows in response to the obscene email sent on the Kappa Sigma listserv which ended up on every major L.A. news site within 2 days and then photos that surfaced over this past weekend of a Kappa Sigma member having sex on the roof of Waite Phillips Hall.

The email had an intense break down of the 10 categories of women and was riddled with things like “Pumpkin Pie: A latin/mexican target” and “Don’t ____ middle-eastern targets. Exhibit some patriotism … You want your ____ smelling like falafel?”  Click to Continue Reading

Harvard Westlake Cancels ALL Future Semi-Formals After 6 Overdose at an Unofficial After Party

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Jordan Freisleben reports in the Harvard-Westlake Chronicale that ALL future HW semiformals have been cancelled indefinitely after students were caught “binge drinking” at an unofficial after party (organized by a group of seniors called the “Sick Pawdays”) at Jane’s House in Hollywood, right down the street from Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum where the semi-formal was held.

6 students had to be taken to the hospital via ambulance. The article suggests GHB was involved but I read no conclusive evidence.  Click to Continue Reading

LA Private School Files: Curts School Fair Los Angeles

Cappuccino cart at Curtis school fair

It’s that time of year when all aspiring parents gear up for the long process of giving “face time” at the private elementary school events, such as the Curtis fair. And these are not even the parents that have children in the school. It’s a long understood situation in this town you have to start applying for your child to get into a top tier private school long before you have even have a husband (or wife).

If you watch Entourage – you know how Ari freaked when his son wasn’t admitted to a good grade school – and in LA, this is  a rawther big deal. If you don’t get into the Center, John Thomas Dye or Curtis, chances are slim you will get into  Harvard-Westlake, Marlborough, Loyola, Brentwood, or Crossroads which means you are doomed for any Ivy.

Us Weekly photo booth at Curtis school fair

The Curtis campus is very beautiful and the building names read like an academy awards roster (they will accept your money once you’ve been admitted).

Items of note at the fair:

  • Auction item for a TV set walk-on for CSI Miami
  • Photo booth where you can get your face on the cover of Us Weekly
  • A proper cappacino cart
  • Celebrity sightings:  Victoria Beckham showed up with her children. This year, Cheryl Hines and Kyle Richards (the last two made a quick get away to the Alfred E. Mann foundation gala at Barker Hanger later that night.

Rides at Curtis school fair

For those of you who missed the Curtis fair today, there are still plenty more Thanksgiving food drives and Christmas carol programs to put on the calendar.

On Campus: Ashton Kutcher Becomes Assistant Football Coach at Harvard-Westlake

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Kutcher came on board through a mutual friend of freshman Coach Scott Wood. He is paid a stipend like all Wolverines coaches, though Athletic Director Audrius Barzdukas said “calling it a paid position is definitely a stretch.” … Kutcher was a middle linebacker at Clear-Creek Amana High in Tiffin, Iowa, and appears a quick study of coaching terminology. Wood, the freshman coach, said Kutcher took the Wolverines’ playbook home one night and learned the entire offense. The next night, he learned the entire defense.

Stepdaughters Scout and Tallulah Willis came to watch a game.
