Personal Notes from the Mitt Romney Fundraiser at the Century Plaza Hotel

Former Governor of California Pete Wilson opened for the popular GOP candidate Mitt Romney on Tuesday night 6pm at the Century Plaza Hotel in Century City. Amid a small miss-able group of protesters outside, over 1,500 supporters of Mitt for President, including Jerry Bruckheimer, Fred & Carla Sands, Marc & Eva Stern, made their way into one of two rooms reserved for the fundraising dinner. Tickets went for $2500 each, the maximun allowable amount an individual can give to a potential nominee (in contrast of Obama’s $38,000 tickets to his dinner fundraiser last month at Colleen and Brad Bell’s house with the Foo Fighters). Bruno Mars x Playboy Mansion — Sex & Music Issue Party with Britney, Gwen, and Cameron D.

Shuttle pass to Playboyyy

A party last week at the Playboy Mansion was for the Annual Playboy Music Issue which has Bruno Mars as the 10th cover man.

Shuttle pick-up: Starting at 9pm, four shuttles picked up from 1875 Century Park East (the usual Playboy party drop off), we were given a card (pictured above) at check-in for the shuttle which were collected when we got off at the house.

Dress Code: The event called for black & white cocktail attire, but a lot of people didn’t follow that … The crowd wasn’t the usual Playboy-ish crowd you’d expect to see. Surprisingly enough, I was shocked to the men were very well dressed in suits or black tie (w/ very nice watches we noticed as well) and just a few tacky girls looking to get discovered as opposed to the normal majority you normally see at le mansion soirees. The Real Cost of a Beverly Hills Housewife — Not quite Bravo’s version

As a site written by born and raised Beverly Hills natives, we are often asked how real is Bravo’s version? A little nip and tuck, lavish birthdays for dogs and celebrity marriages do happen but that could be in any town …

We break down some of the major hallmarks of life in Beverly Hills and the real cost of it.

From country clubs to private schools to shopping vaults at Neiman Marcus and popular charity groups … We gave some thought to how much Bravo cast fufills the expectations associated with Beverly Hills.

We skipped extremely rich and poor (plenty of both) to give you the status quo of annual costs associated with a typical lifestyle in Beverly Hills.

Let’s first delve into geography …

“Mirror Mirror” Premiere in Hollywood — Lily Collins, Julia Roberts

Armie Hammer was a no show for the early morning premiere of Mirror Mirror at the Chinese Theater today. Julia Roberts who one might expect to reprise her full bodice gowns from her evil queen role in the film instead was slightly disappointing in a black suit against a wall of extras in full dress and Lily Collins in a strapless dress with a poofy skirt.

The Hunger Games” World Premiere in Los Angeles — Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson take Downtown’s Nokia Theater

Goodbye Harry Potter and Twilight and hello Hunger Games … Which by the way is at least guaranteed to make $95 mil opening weekend… #NBD. Not since Chad Hudson’s Twilight campout has downtown seen such fandom from a movie premiere. Jennifer Lawrence arrived in Prabal Gurung followed by co-stars Liam HemsworthJosh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Wes Bentley, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, and Lenny Kravitz.

Obviously we need to point a couple new faces in the cast who also happen to be L.A. school alumni … Jacqueline Emerson aka “Foxface” (Marlborough), Isabelle Fuhrman aka “Clove” (Buckley), and Jack Quaid aka “Marvel” (who is the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan went to Brentwood, and is currently at the Experimental Theatre Wing at the Tisch School of Arts at NYU). New Audi Beverly Hills Grand Opening

The Audi party last night was succcch a scene … “Fletcher Jones knows how to brand” a friend said while at the round padded bar in the middle of the converted Audi (formerly Beverly Hills BMW) showroom on Wilshire Blvd last night.

Talk about knowing your market — Not only did Fletch invite Audi buyers in his 20 – 40 demographic, he also remembered to invite their kids and parents. Harvard-Westlake alum were turning up with their dads, while current El Rodeo parents brought their kids. The result was a fair with a nightclub atmosphere — and something for everyone.

Four separate areas featured a red carpet with new models in their (pre-owned) lot North of Wilshire, a brightly lit showroom of new model cars in their second showroom South of Wilshire (and Beverly Hills Police Department monitoring the flow of traffic and crossing party goers between the two). Then there is the massive service department — with it’s rafters lit in red, all the cars removed for the night, white lounge areas and Patina charcuterie stations set up along the edges; this is where people meant when they said “I’m going to go back inside the party” … Yet another showroom East of the party was set as a kids gaming party with arts and crafts tables, candy bars and race tracks for toy cars.

The Bel Air Screening Circuit — Hollywood’s secret screening list!

Peter Guber's screening room -- pic via the WSJ

“The Bel-Air screening circuit” is small club of people who receive early copies of first run films and has been around since the 70s or 80s — often called Hollywood’s secret screener list. This group has been extremely low profile since the dawn of time and receives little to no press — we’ve been asked not to blog about it by everyone we know in and close to the circuit but the WSJ let the cat out of the bag this AM, so we are very happy to be able to get into extreme detail on this LA phenomena.

Basically, every studio loans first run prints or digital copies of their films to 300 to 500 people who have been pre-selected to be eligible to receive them. There is somewhat of a hierarchy to the list and those on it — while eligible to receive the first run films on or before, opening weekend — can often be bumped down the list by bigger people in entertainment, sports, music, and in Washington who are viewed as having a larger influence in their ability to hype a film or in their general stature … often studios want to ensure voting members of the Academy will see the film and start logging it against other Oscar contenders. Priority basically goes to A list actors and directors like Steven Spielberg, George Clooney, Woody Allen, Harvey Weinstein, and according to the WSJ there are some wildcards on the recipient list as well such as Dr. Dre, Prince Saud al-Faisal, Ron Burkle, Derek Jeter, Bill Gates, and newly minted Petra Ecclestone. Elton John’s Annual Oscar Party 2012 — w/ performance by Foster the People [VIDEO]

Clockwise: All Access passes, Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth, Elton John with his baby and Fran Drescher and Katy Perry, ambiance

What: 20th annual Elton John Oscar party
When: Night of the Oscars!
Where: Pacific Design Center (in a massive tent out front)
Who: Elton John & David Furnish, Steve TischRussell Simmons, Neil Patrick Harris, supermodels Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova. Heidi Klum, Petra Nemcova, Antonio Villaraigosa, Steven Tyler, Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, and more …

Another Academy Awards evening at Sir Elton John’s Oscar Party … This year, I took along Jessica Nagel (publicist for J. Mendel), Flo Fulton (President of Events at Nike Communications) who flew in from New York, and a couple others —  all clad in J. Mendel including myself — of course I wanted to represent since I sit on the Board of Directors for J. Mendel and what better place to wear one of Gilles’ [Gilles Mendel, heir apparent and designer of J. Mendel] beautiful gowns. We had a running joke all evening that we were the J. Mendel table.

#TruffleNotes: Being a ‘Grand Benefactor’ at the Elton John party gets you a table for 10 and 2 passes to Jeffrey Katzenberg’s Night Before party
