Jim Morrison’s Old Apt Now Available for Private Parties … ‘Morrison Room’ Opens Above Dukes Coffee Shop on Sunset Blvd

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

When I was growing up in L.A., my brother was in a band that played regularly on the Sunset Strip …. back when Gazzarri’s was still around and the Viper Room was owned by celebrities. As private school kids at Harvard-Westlake, we did our best to blend in in our finest black tube dresses, courtesy of Judy’s or Esprit (Note: We are now  in the 80s), whilst walking the strip after the shows. Hair bands and heshers would chilled on the sidewalks like it was their house. Duke’s was the place to go after a long night at 3am – try the pancakes! This was also a good place to duck in if one of our friends’ fake IDs didn’t work and where our parents would pick us up. Click to Continue Reading

Double Grand Openings for LA’s Newest Nightspot ‘The Beverly’

I think we can all agree Brent Bolthouse + Guy Starkman is a mucccch better partnership than Brent Bolthouse + Sam Nazarian so good news for all in search of a good bar … And a big thank you for more places opening up in Beverly Hills/West Hollywood. Were glad that whole Cahuenga corridor phase is over. After a few pre-openings last week (read more about The Beverly pre-openings here), The Beverly had two back-to-back grand openings this weekend on Thursday and Saturday (the only two days they will be open for business).

Weekly Juice: Grand Opening for Annenberg Beauty Culture Exhibit, The Beverly Officially Opens, Judith Leiber Lunch at LACMA, New Forever 21 Opens Tomorrow

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Last night:

  • Grande Opening of The Beverly – this new lounge from Brent Bolthouse, Guy Starkman and Darren Dzienciol – who together also brought you Trousdale – had their official grand opening last night. We at the Truffle always like to get in clubs for sneak-peeks WAY before they open so we were there last week for a pre-opening party. The Beverly being a small venue with large names attached has planned two grand openings in order to accommodate their guests. Interesting guests last night include: Alex von Furstenberg, Jay Luchs, Jason Pomeranc, Grace Fernandez, Harry Morton, etc. Pictures to follow!
  • Grand Opening for Annenberg Beauty Culture Exhibit – it’s not often you spot Giselle Bundchen in L.A. (even though she lives in Brentwood with husband Tom Brady) … quite a big “get” for any party (leave to The A List, I’m guessing since we saw Blake Wassenaar at the door) and massive crowd pleaser for the L.A. art world who came out for Wallis Annenberg’s new exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Century City. Extra tents were set up to handle the crowd and a surprise strip tease from Dita Von Teese. Interesting guests include: Halle Berry, Katie Holmes, Peggy Moffitt, Petra Nemcova, Alek Wek, Kirsty Hume. Pictures to follow!
  • Grand re-opening of Maison140 Beverly Hills – not much info on this expect that the hotel is darling and it “re-opened” last night. If you have info on this send it to our tip line.
  • Hangover 2 premieres in Hollywood – some say Zacy G was in pre-hanger mode. Interesting guests include: cast leads Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha, Ed Helms, Ken Jeong and Mike Tyson, as well as Robert Downey Jr., Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jason Bateman, and Kristen Bell.

This past week:

  • Judith Leiber Lunch at LACMA – a rare West Coast appearance by Judith Leiber brought hundreds of women to the Bing Theatre at LACMA Wednesday afternoon for a Q&A with Cameron Silver about her life, her work and her self-published book on the heritage of Judith Leiber. The LACMA Costume Council put this event together along with a fundraiser the night before in the Judith Leiber store where member were given the deal of a lifetime – 100 bags for $100 each.

Coming up this week:

  • Forever 21 new store opening in the Beverly Center
  • 2011 Cedars Sinai Sports Spectacular
  • Street art doc Outside In: The Story of Art in the Streets sneak peek and premiere
  • Hollywood Life Awards in downtown L.A.
  • Midnight in Paris premiere at the Samuel Goldwyn theater in Beverly Hills
  • The Tree of Life screening at SOHO House followed Q&A with Dave Karger (Los Angeles Weekly) and Jessica Chastain and Bill Pohlad from the film.

Many are at work on the Truffle to make it great. Guest author, send blind items, tell us about a party — trufflehunters@dailytruffle.net

Job well done to Mr. Jeff Beacher, as I really did feel like I was at a mad house last night! One would never guess that RIGHT off the lobby of the Roosevelt hotel, you can walk through a book shelf and down a hallway of mirrors, only to enter a world with dancing animals, flying midgets popping bottles, and contortionists.

Redbury Hotel Grand Opening in Hollywood, Camp Freddy Performs

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Tonight’s grand opening ceremony for The Redbury Hotel is the culmination of an interesting journey for 1717 Vine Street. Just a few years ago, this site used to be a parking lot for adjacent offices, the Pantages theatre, and various nightclubs over the years such as The Palace which became Avalon, Deep which became Basque and its successors Spider Club which became Bardot. Then the real estate markets went insane along with the hype of the Hollywood renaissance, enticing developers to build projects such as the W Hollywood, The Broadway lofts, and in the case of 1717, the Palihouse Vine.  Click to Continue Reading

ATTENTION PLEASE!!

Beacher’s Madhouse in the Roosevelt 2010

For those of you who don’t know yet, Jeff Beacher is taking his act off the road and to the Roosevelt hotel in Hollywood. Beacher’s Madhouse started in NYC, became a hit among young Manhattan natives and before long Harry Morton (Harvard-Westlake alum) caught wind of it and brokered a deal to bring him out to his father’s Hard Rock hotel in Las Vegas. Jeff moved hotels a couple years ago and then took the act on tour and is FINALLY where he belongs in Hollywood!! Thank you David Arquette for hooking this UPPP! The official title for the latest incarnation of Beacher’s Madhouse is “David Arquette Presents: Beacher’s Madhouse“. See more below … Click to Continue Reading

Guy Starkman & Darren Dzienciol with Brent Bolthouse & Jen Rosero present ‘Trousdale Lounge’

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Finally the FULL BODY LIFT LOS ANGELES needs will be here March 9th !
Los Angeles nightlife and restaurateurs Guy Starkman with Darren Dzienciol, Brent Bolthouse and Jenifer Rosero are finalllyyy set up to open the highly anticipated Trousdale, a new lounge on the cusp of both Beverly Hills and West Hollywood on Sunset.

Trousdale lounge is located at 9229 Sunset Blvd., (formerly Blowfish Sushi) which is in good company, across from Boa Steakhouse and The Soho House, which is hosting Oscar parties throughout the weekend and officially opens May 8th.

Trousdale comes to us as a result of Guys being sold in May of 2009, and Brent and Jen looking for new adventures since their days with Sam have come to a close. Brent is now calling his new bar Trousdale “This generation’s Hyde.” The name Trousdale comes from the neighborhood north of the bar called Trousdale Estates (Jennifer Aniston, Ringo Starr, Prince and Paul Allen have homes here).

After seeing the beautiful transformations Brent & Jen and Guy & Darren have done in their respective pasts, I was very curious to know what style/theme they were going to go for with this new ultra lounge.

“The intimate Trousdale interior features dark wood, marble pillars and oversized booths finished with silver leather. The focal point of the property is the main bar, framed by elaborate silver and gold moldings and decorated with a dark marble bar top, mirrored panels along the sides and an intricate mosaic pattern. Another key design element is the lavish chandelier, which runs the length of the main room.

Reasons Lauren has to be excited:
1. I live exactly two blocks west and down the street from Trousdale lounge.
2. I love the name because I lived in Trousdale for most of my life (I guess that means I am sentimental :-/ )
3. Who wants to always drive deep into Hollywood just to go out, see friends, and get a drink?
4. I spent the better part of a few years at Hyde and was very unhappy when my “second home” was disbanded, now I hope to have a new second home with this new team !
5. Many of my favorite nights out have been due to a club or event that Bolthouse or the Guy’s team has master minded, so I am looking forward to new favorite times. This is Brent and Jen’s first collaboration since ending partnership with SBE, and I can think of no other group I’d rather them join.
6. Without naming names or sounding crazy, I am happy to start seeing some people who actually have style and will dress up a bit again… the arts and crafts, “I can dress weirder than you” trend has not been a favorite of mine and I’ll be happy to see it dissipate.
7. Dana Flores has catered many of the Bolthouse events I have gone to, and let me tell you, the treats she prepares are delish and to die for.
8. The Daily Truffle is first and for most about LA, so the fact that Darren and Guy are LA natives adds a lil icing to the cake! We give props to Brent and Jen to for going into their third decade in Los Angeles as well.

Private Concerts: Perry Farrell performs “Jane Says” at Bardot’s One Year Anniversary party

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

The relationships Jason Scoppa and Alexi Yulish have fostered with Hollywood club-goers and famous musicians has changed nightlife in Hollywood. Bardot promoter Jason Scoppa pitched Bardot owner John Lyons the concept to turn the VIP club atop Avalon nightclub in Hollywood into the first ever no-cover live music venue for celebrities to play intimate sets to hand-picked crowds of friends, peers and other Hollywood insiders. While Jason gets the celebrity bands and solo acts, Alexi works on the crowd – and this crowd is just about the best anyone can get – after all, I was there. My friends at Bardot know how to throw a party and always make me and all their friends and guest feel so welcome. It is truly like having a family when you venture out into the night – One big happy Hollywood family. Jason made that official this summer when he married his girlfriend, Stephanie Fessler, who he met while working together at Green Door and who left with him when the John Lyons and Steve Adelman opened up Bardot a year ago. Pre-Opening for New Club ‘Hollywood Playhouse’

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

In L.A., It’s not enough to be invited to the “opening” of a new club, in fact – that’s usually not a good thing. If you get a Grand Opening invitation in your inbox – know that you have fallen into the wrong camp! IF you are in the loop in Los Angeles, you never go to a club opening; you go to pre-openings, sneak peaks, or private events at the not-yet-opened venue. For instance, three years ago before Shag opened, I had my birthday party there with my friend Dory Benami, a friend of the owner’s, Shareen. The next night, Vanity Fair hosted a private party as well. Shag then opened the following weekend … Tonight, Alison Melnick, an L.A. promoter and celebrity wrangler, gave her birthday at the soon-to-open Playhouse. This much awaited club has promised to feature live acrobats swinging from the ceiling all night and rumor has it you can expect your bottle service waiters to jump up on tables and pull bunnies from their hats at any given moment.

Just when I thought this was too good to be true, I ran into my buddy Nico Golfar, a bit of a tech expert, who explained to me that Playhouse has another magic trick:

The club has installed a Funktion-One sound system – which uses a frequency-emitting technology to make sound waves pass through each other – as opposed to bounce off and all over the place. This has the effect of allowing voices to be heard in the club no matter how loud the volume. I was wondering why I didn’t have a headache and wasn’t annoyed despite my drunk date. I am told Playhouse is one of two club in L.A. to bother with the high priced ticket to give club-goers a superior experience. Nico, also a native Brit, went on to tell me this is very standard for clubs in New York and London, once again, defining L.A. as a culture who’s participants simply do not demand quality. A manager of the Nobu chain once told me the difference between Nobu patrons across the globe is as follows: clients in London demand quality in their food, whereas the clients at their New York locations are picky about service. And at their Malibu and La Cienega locations, he says people don’t notice either – they just want a table near the door!

The funniest moment of the evening was when the Fire Marshall came to do the usual head count – as they do every night all over Hollywood. Three acrobat vixens were entertaining a table-full of club-goers and literally – as the Fire Marshall was squeezing behind them – all three lite up Sparklers. Yes! Sparklers. It was like a fire marshall’swet dream. They demanded to see the stock where the sparklers had come from and each fireman stormed out with a couple boxes each! That surely cost club owner Rob Vinokur a pretty penny – though it’s doubtful he was aware of the obvious infringement to safety standards; I’m guessing someone else’s head rolled!

Other interesting partons of the night to attend Allison’s birthday – Casey Johnson (set to inherit the Johnson and Johnson trust), Jessica Meisels (founded of celebrity-connected Fingerprint PR), Samaire Armstron (actress, Dirty Sexy Money), David Katzenberg (son of movie producer Jeffrey Katzenberg and boyfriend of Nicky Hilton), Elliot Mintz (the on-again off-again publicist to Paris Hilton and many others) and singer Eve.

An interesting perk of the night – “Too-Faced” make-up stationed ”touch-up” booths through-out the club, and gave away cosmetics. Birthday girl Allison Melnick geting a touch-up.
