#Celeb Daily Photo: Nicole Richie & Hayden Slater at new Pressed Juicery store in West Hollywood

There are many reasons to love Pressed Juicery – a few being  (1.) that they’ve added a new entry to the Sprinkles vs. Pinkberry tournament, (2.) they have a food truck that isn’t annoying, and (3.) they’ve made vegetables popular (take a lesson, Eli Gold). Finding a snack that won’t make us fat and clog our arteries is only second to our primary observation when we look at the Pressed Juicery brand – the first being their creative direction put forth by Pressed owners – Carly, Hedi, and our personal fav Hayden (Winward, JTD) – who have mastered the art of making roots look good.  Click to Continue Reading

#newLA: The Art of Shaving, Now Open in Beverly Hills [SLIDESHOW]

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

There are a couple things to know about the new Art of Shaving that just opened on Brighton Way — half a block from Rodeo Drive. It’s huge, it’s pretty, and they have cappuccino. This mens salon, though women are welcome, opened last Wednesday and will have their official opening party next week hosted by George Kotsiopoulos. 8 barber chair stations offer hot shaves and hair cuts to men. We happened to notice a certain special product that we wanted to mention and put out there — a sulfate-free (suds-free for the rookie) mens facial cleanser. It’s rare enough to find these for women so seeing one for a man was quite impressive! In fact, we’ve added it to our xmas rec list.

Truffle Approved: Equinox Beverly Hills — formerly the SportsClubLA

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

The Daily Truffle would like to extend a warm welcome to Equinox in Beverly Hills which has just replace the old SportsClub … This is the first location in Beverly Hills for Equinox and the old Sports Club members are v excited for the change. A group of 12 were overheard toasting the changeover at Taberna a block west on Friday when the Sports Club sign finally came down the Equinox sign went up. While the SportsClub are pros when it comes to their in-hotel gyms (they have one, for instance, inside the Ritz in Boston) … their work in Beverly Hills never quite won over the locals the way you imagine a private sports club in Beverly Hills could, or should … We hope to see the Equinox touches found in their WeHo club come to this new location – for instance,  a better scene at their restaurant, better products in the locker room, an Earth Bar would be amazing (bonus points if they do it), and for the Love of God — WIFI throughout! Not just in the lobby. With the iPad many people are opting to watch movies or TV online rather than the TV screens so a working connection is essential to please members.

#newLA: Its backkkkk … Bel Air Hotel re-opens

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Here at the Truffle, we could care less about million dollar renos and what tourists find appealing. Our question for the newly opened ‘Bel Air’ is not which new restaurant you may install, or what interior designers you used, but will you manage to re-gain the favor of the locals?

What some don’t realize about the Hotel Bel Air is that it is more than just a romantic weekend get-away. For those few and fortunate living in a 1 miles radius of the hotel, the bar and restaurant was the neighborhood watering hole and eatery. House accounts were the norm for those living on Bellagio and Bel Air Roads, who came here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and most famously – ‘apres dinner’. That’s the kind of bar scene we’re into. We’ll let you know how this developing story pans out. Guest check-in opened this past Friday following a few formal previews, and there will be an opening party this coming Thursday …

Jim Morrison’s Old Apt Now Available for Private Parties … ‘Morrison Room’ Opens Above Dukes Coffee Shop on Sunset Blvd

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

When I was growing up in L.A., my brother was in a band that played regularly on the Sunset Strip …. back when Gazzarri’s was still around and the Viper Room was owned by celebrities. As private school kids at Harvard-Westlake, we did our best to blend in in our finest black tube dresses, courtesy of Judy’s or Esprit (Note: We are now  in the 80s), whilst walking the strip after the shows. Hair bands and heshers would chilled on the sidewalks like it was their house. Duke’s was the place to go after a long night at 3am – try the pancakes! This was also a good place to duck in if one of our friends’ fake IDs didn’t work and where our parents would pick us up. Click to Continue Reading

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

This exhibit is a MUST-SEE this summer. This photo is the actual exhibit entrance inside LACMA’s Resnick Pavillion to more than 8 rooms filled with Tim Burton paraphernalia from sculptures to sketches to movie props from his crazy career in Disney’s animation department and as an A-list director who has brought us the likes of Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland, Batman Returns, Mars Attacks!, James and the Giant Peach, Batman Forever, Ed Wood, Cabin Boy and many more! An additional perk are detailed and fascinating tiny sketches from Tim Burton’s illustrator Carlos Grangel. Double Grand Openings for LA’s Newest Nightspot ‘The Beverly’

I think we can all agree Brent Bolthouse + Guy Starkman is a mucccch better partnership than Brent Bolthouse + Sam Nazarian so good news for all in search of a good bar … And a big thank you for more places opening up in Beverly Hills/West Hollywood. Were glad that whole Cahuenga corridor phase is over. After a few pre-openings last week (read more about The Beverly pre-openings here), The Beverly had two back-to-back grand openings this weekend on Thursday and Saturday (the only two days they will be open for business).

Weekly Juice: Grand Opening for Annenberg Beauty Culture Exhibit, The Beverly Officially Opens, Judith Leiber Lunch at LACMA, New Forever 21 Opens Tomorrow

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Last night:

  • Grande Opening of The Beverly – this new lounge from Brent Bolthouse, Guy Starkman and Darren Dzienciol – who together also brought you Trousdale – had their official grand opening last night. We at the Truffle always like to get in clubs for sneak-peeks WAY before they open so we were there last week for a pre-opening party. The Beverly being a small venue with large names attached has planned two grand openings in order to accommodate their guests. Interesting guests last night include: Alex von Furstenberg, Jay Luchs, Jason Pomeranc, Grace Fernandez, Harry Morton, etc. Pictures to follow!
  • Grand Opening for Annenberg Beauty Culture Exhibit – it’s not often you spot Giselle Bundchen in L.A. (even though she lives in Brentwood with husband Tom Brady) … quite a big “get” for any party (leave to The A List, I’m guessing since we saw Blake Wassenaar at the door) and massive crowd pleaser for the L.A. art world who came out for Wallis Annenberg’s new exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Century City. Extra tents were set up to handle the crowd and a surprise strip tease from Dita Von Teese. Interesting guests include: Halle Berry, Katie Holmes, Peggy Moffitt, Petra Nemcova, Alek Wek, Kirsty Hume. Pictures to follow!
  • Grand re-opening of Maison140 Beverly Hills – not much info on this expect that the hotel is darling and it “re-opened” last night. If you have info on this send it to our tip line.
  • Hangover 2 premieres in Hollywood – some say Zacy G was in pre-hanger mode. Interesting guests include: cast leads Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha, Ed Helms, Ken Jeong and Mike Tyson, as well as Robert Downey Jr., Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jason Bateman, and Kristen Bell.

This past week:

  • Judith Leiber Lunch at LACMA – a rare West Coast appearance by Judith Leiber brought hundreds of women to the Bing Theatre at LACMA Wednesday afternoon for a Q&A with Cameron Silver about her life, her work and her self-published book on the heritage of Judith Leiber. The LACMA Costume Council put this event together along with a fundraiser the night before in the Judith Leiber store where member were given the deal of a lifetime – 100 bags for $100 each.

Coming up this week:

  • Forever 21 new store opening in the Beverly Center
  • 2011 Cedars Sinai Sports Spectacular
  • Street art doc Outside In: The Story of Art in the Streets sneak peek and premiere
  • Hollywood Life Awards in downtown L.A.
  • Midnight in Paris premiere at the Samuel Goldwyn theater in Beverly Hills
  • The Tree of Life screening at SOHO House followed Q&A with Dave Karger (Los Angeles Weekly) and Jessica Chastain and Bill Pohlad from the film.

Many are at work on the Truffle to make it great. Guest author, send blind items, tell us about a party — trufflehunters@dailytruffle.net

The Beverly, the second* venture from nightlife guru’s Guy Starkman, Darren Dzienciol, Brent Bolthouse and Jen Rosero, is right on par with the newer trend of less club and more lounge … Think more relaxed NYC bar and less big LA bottle-popping club. *Trousdale was the first (The Beverly is housed in the same location as Guy Starkman’s first bar called Guy’s where Darren was also involved) Click to Continue Reading
