The Auto Gallery x McLaren Showroom Grand Opening in Beverly Hills [SLIDESHOW, VIDEOS]

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

To introduce McLaren’s new road car, the MP4-12C, to LA’s top car collectors and enthusiasts, British exotic automaker has partnered with The Auto Gallery to open a dealership in Beverly Hills, and hosted a grand opening to draw LA’s car world to the new showroom. The MP4-12C is McLaren’s first road vehicle since their collaboration with Mercedes Benz to produce the  McLaren Mercedes SLR. McLaren CEO Ron Dennis, based in London, flew in to explain this to the crowd which included: Bruce Meyer – who has one of the largest car collections in L.A. and founded the 1199 Foundation, David Sydorick – board member of Petersen Museum’s Checkered Flag Club whose car collection is easily worth 100M, Jay Leno – who keeps many cars from his vast collection stored in the Petersen vault, Ron Burkle – local billionaire and current resident of Greenacres estate, and car collectors Tonya & Jim Hull who live in Malibu and are also a part of the Checkered Flag Club. Also at the party, Mark Alfano — who runs Michael Hammer’s car collection (now based in Montecito since Michael moved it from his Culver City building which he now rents to RM Auctions for their space … Mark was en route to Las Vegas for a motorcycle auction and then the Scottsdale car auction which will set the tone for the rest of the car auction for the entire year — he will be looking for new additions for Michael’s collection). #TruffleNotes: Michael Hammer is Amie Hammer’s dad!

Also not to be excluded from the list of attendees was Philippe Cousteau — the grandson of ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau, with his girlfriend E! News host Ashlan Gorse and Gorse’ publicist Zack TanckAmber Cohen — avid car enthusiast Checkered Flag member, Ron Giger — genreal manager of the The Auto Gallery, Alan Johnson – current president of the historic L.A. Tennis Club who personally oversaw club renovations in 2010 with wife Kristina Johnson, , Dr. Gabriel & Christine Chiu, Tony Schwartz – co-founder of The Auto Gallery, investor Tyson ParkNick Frankel of My Yacht Monaco, Malibu resident Hines who has the lock on distributing Gemballa for Porsche in North American, ex-Beverly Hills Ferrari manager Bryant Kreaden who now runs Beverly Hills Astin Martin, and McDreamy aka Patrick Dempsey, or as I like to say Ronnie Miller. Personal Notes from the Mitt Romney Fundraiser at the Beverly Hills Hotel

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Some notes from the fundraiser for our Truffler GOPs out there … Harry Sloan, the former MGM chief turned investor (he is now the CEO of Global Eagle Acquisition Corporation), organized the first Los Angeles fundraiser for Mitt last night at the Beverly Hills Hotel, per an intention he made clear earlier this fall as reported in the Hollywood Reporter.

#TruffleNotes: THR recently named Harry as a ‘player(s) getting top billing in the 2012 drama’ in an article entitled Election ’12: The Hollywood Players

Eva & Marc Stern (who is the chairman of the board of LA Opera, a member of the Music Center Board of Directors, and lives in Malibu) acted as event hosts along with Tracy & Gene Sykes (of Goldman Sachs), Canyon Partners hedge fund manager Josh Friedman (who introduced the potential nominee) and his wife Beth. Mitt’s wife did not join him for this trip.

The dinner was chicken, the crowd was about 200 – 300, and the message was clear: America is a place that works because you can work hard and get ahead. Steep taxes on the rich will drive their motivation downwards.

The ticket prices were $2500 per person, which is the maximum allowable donation anyone can give a single candidate. Beyond that you can give any amount to the GOP or democratic party who in turn gives it to the nominee — when they have one. Click to Continue Reading

Tales from Will & Kate’s Polo Match & After Party at Chateau Marmont

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Remember when people use to say “let’s do lunch” … ? Well, I think tonight I heard the replacement phrase for that while at an after party for the Foundation Polo Challenge played today in Santa Barbara. The after party was held in Room 64 at the Chateau, more commonly known as the penthouse even though it’s not the top floor.  ON his way out, a friend I’d not seen in ages came flying by at the elevators, without stopping, grabbed me, kissed me, pointed his finger and said “I am SO calling you tomorrow” …

Guy's largest book retails from $7000 from Assouline

Where: SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills
What: Assouline book signing for Guy Laliberté’s “GAIA, A Poetic Mission in Space
Who: Guy Laliberté, CEO Cirque du Soleil, Lois Aldrin, the Nazarians and more …

You know you are in good company when a Birkin bag is left unattended at a party for three hours and its PERFECTLY fine … The bag belonged to Sam Nazarian‘s sister Angella Nazarian, who were both in attendance with her husband David Nazarian, to get a sneak peek at the new photo album from Assouline, created by Cirque du Soleil CEO Guy Laliberté, on his last self-funded mission to space. Guy Laliberté has been making the rounds around Los Angeles for his upcoming new Cirque show IRIS premiering at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre on July 15. Also in the crowd were some of LA’s best brand-making ladies – Barbara Lazaroff who is often credited for bringing ex-husband Wolfgang Puck from the kitchen to the TV, and Lois Aldrin who is currently battling for her earnings as a key role player in her ex-husbands, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, recent renaissance back into pop-culture. Lois, who is famous around Beverly Hills for her bejeweled and stenciled nails, has gone back to her maiden name so she will hereafter be referred to on the Truffle as Lois Driggs Cannon. #L.A. Restaurants Sightings: vol 1

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

With the Emmys this weekend, we wanted to make sure you knew the best places to dine, and spot celebrities, in Los Angeles. Please see below for some great restaurants – and some celebs that have recently been spotted …

BLT Steak (8720 Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA)

BLT Steak elevates the classic American steakhouse with a signature French style and all-around finesse.  The restaurant offers a variety of cuts of USDA Prime, Certified Black Angus, American Wagyu and Japanese Kobe beef, each naturally aged for maximum tenderness and flavor and served finished with herb butter in a cast-iron pan.  The menu also offers a selection of fish entrees.

Spotted: Meg Ryan, Halle Berry, Clive Davis, Zack Braff, and Steve Carrell

Comme Ca (8479 Melrose Avenue, West Hollywood, CA)

David Myers’ acclaimed French brasserie recreates the mood of a bustling French eatery for an LA audience: warm, welcoming and casually glamorous.  The menu is rooted in French tradition and can only be described as pure brasserie fare, from hearty Steak Frites to the rich flavors of Escargot Persillade.

Spotted: Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Biel, Demi Moore, and Orlando Bloom

Cecconi’s (8764 Melrose Avenue, West Hollywood, CA)

Inspired by the original London location, Cecconi’s features classic Italian cuisine in a relaxed, elegant environment that calls to mind Venetian glamour.

Spotted: Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Aniston, Elton John, and Madonna

Hatfield’s (6703 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA)

Hatfield’s recently re-opened in a new location on Melrose Avenue, one of Los Angeles’ most popular and trendy areas. The new space includes a full bar, conservatory with a living wall of succulents and a private dining room, creating a large space in which the Hatfield’s can both expand their menu and display the culinary team in an exhibition kitchen.

Spotted: Reese Witherspoon, Katherine Heigl, Ryan Seacrest and Jon Hamm

The Bazaar by José Andrés at The SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills (465 South La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048)

The Bazaar provides a myriad of kitschy dining spots designed by world-renowned Philippe Starck. The Bazaar allows diners to explore a wide selection of classic Spanish tapas juxtaposed with modern interpretations.

Spotted: Sarah Jessica Parker, David Beckham, Adrian Brody, and Eva Longoria

Los Angeles Philanthropist & Child Activist Nancy M. Daly ~ Estate auctioned today

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Nancy MacNeil Daly Riordan ~ children’s rights activist ~ who died last year, was New Jersey born but came out to LA with her husband at the time, Robert A. Daly ~ a CBS and then Warner Bros executive ~ where she went on to become one of Los Angeles’ most prominent activists on behalf of abused and neglected children. She also was a longtime art collector who focused on decorative arts and paintings — with an emphasis on the California aesthetic and early 20th-century design. Today, after a preview April 16-18, Bonhams & Butterfields auctioned 105 works from Nancy’s estate estimated to be up to $1.4 million altogether, according to Joseph Francaviglia, director of Bonhams trusts and estates.

Philanthropies:

  • 1980 ~ Founded United Friends of the Children ~ aids and supports children in foster care, providing them with the opportunity to graduate from high school, attend and graduate from college. The organization also helps foster children get a job, find housing and have a support system that moves them gradually towards independence.
  • 1989, Daly was appointed to the nonpartisan President’s Commission on Children, which recommended federal government policy reforms.
  • 1984 ~ Daly successfully lobbied for the creation of what is now the county Department of Children and Family Services and served on its advisory commission until 1999
  • 2002 ~ Board member ~ LACMA ~ Los Angeles County Museum of Art, elected board chair in 2005.
  • 2003 ~ Co-chaired, with former Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg, a committee to oversee the spending of tobacco tax funds to help provide preschool for all 4-year-olds in the county.
  • Board member ~ W.M. Keck Foundation
  • Board member ~ Los Angeles Opera
  • Board affiliation ~ The Riordan Foundation
  • Board affiliation ~ USC Center for Communications Policy
  • Helped established ~ the Los Angeles County Children & Family Services Commission
  • Helped established ~ the Los Angeles County Family Preservation Program
  • Helped established ~ the Los Angeles County Children’s Planning Council
  • Helped established ~ the Los Angeles City Commission on Children, Youth and Their Families
  • Helped established ~ the Getty House Foundation
  • Worked with three Presidential Administrations on policy issues relating to foster care, adoption and technology.
  • Helped pass legislation in California to increase funding for health and mental health services for emancipated foster youth.
  • Co-chaired the Los Angeles County First Five Commission’s Universal PreSchool Planning Committee which resulted in the commitment of $600 million over the next five years to create universal preschool for all four-year-olds in Los Angeles.
  • Daly helped found the Children’s Action Network, which uses the power of the entertainment community to increase awareness about children’s issues. The Children’s Action Network works to find homes for the more than 114,000 children in the United States foster care system who are waiting for an adoptive family.

Nancy Daly’s estate is mixed in with Bonhams & Butterfields’ big Spring auction of California and Western Paintings and Sculpture which featured a wide variety of important California, Western, Society of Six, Hawaiian scenes and Plein Air works by established American artists including Joseph Kleitsch, Franz Bischoff, Edgar Payne, Granville Redmond and William Wendt as well as early, rare to market works by William Hahn, Thomas Moran and Thomas Hill.

But a selection of Nancy’s works are considered the highlight of the show …

Highlights from the Daly Estate in the 20th Century Decorative Arts auction included: a Tiffany Studios Favrile glass and bronze Lotus lamp, 1899-1918, sold for $85,400 (the top lot of the sale); a set of ten Tiffany & Co sterling and turquoise Mayan style figural salt and pepper shakers, 1907-1938, sold for $48,800 and a Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre covered vase designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones titled Demon Tree of the Ghostly Wood, 1915-1931, sold for $36,600.

Highlights from the Daly Estate in the California and Western Paintings and Sculpture auction included: Joseph Kleitsch’s Woman in a garden sewing sold for $230,000 (the top lot of the sale); William Wendt’s Houses in the mountains (resort), 1926 sold for $115,900 and Franz Arthur Bischoff’s Roses in a blue vase on a table with a mirror sold for $91,500.
