Nothing beats a room full of lovely ladies, yummy refreshments and covetable fashion … ! So the scene was set for Katie Nehra‘s ‘Simone’ collection gathering at the Chateau Marmont. The ladies included Katie herself to help fans select and design their own leather jacket; long known as a staple in each of the Simone collections, guests had the choice of choosing from different skins and embellishments … Voila! Your own custom piece de resistance!

Uber stylist Jessica Pastor chatted up with ubiquitous man about the globe Cameron Silver- looking super summer ready in a crisp cotton short suit paired with a fuchsia shirt and Jil Sander oxfords … ooh lala …

Amanda Luttrell Garrigus, formerly of “The Daily 10″, dodged inquiries regarding her stilletos (Hollywood Blvd!) whilst trying on an ombre cropped moto jacket. Lucky for all, we had plenty of professional fashion help to guide us through the Fall 2011 collection that was also on rack for pre order: long time Simone supporter Fashion Police’s George Kotsiopoulos!

Chloe Sevigny x Opening Ceremony Runway Presentation in NYC

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

First time runway presentation for the 3rd collaboration between Chloe Sevigny and Opening Ceremony was held in an (un-air -conditioned) gymnasium on Mulbery Street in Nolita this past week. Playing up ‘Good vs. Bad’ by way of expected contradictions, Sevigny showed laser cut ‘eyelet’ leather maiden frocks in black and white; some with ruffles and some with shoulder cut outs reminiscent of the 80′s.

There was also denim by way of short overalls and varsity style jackets. A bit of color by way of a red bodysuits/bathing suits/one piece and bustier tops paired with anorak stye cover-ups. Gal pal Natasha Lyonne, artist Ryan McGinley,Terry Richardson Hamish Bowles, Jen BrillChiara ClementeSally SingerSean AveryFabiola Beracasa were amongst the front seat spectators … Click to Continue Reading

Soho House Screening: “The Imperialists Are Still Alive!”

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

On 19 April 2011, Soho House hosted a screening of first time feature director/writer Zeina Durra‘s The Imperialists are Still Alive!

Though slightly political in its essence, the film is a natural easy window into the many ethnicities and cultures that coalesce in present day New York City.

Elodie Bouchez portrays an artist of Jordanian/Bosnian/Palestinian background living in Chinatown; her friends are models and socialites … commonplace are designer clothing, charity galas and after hours “speak easies” in “seedy” locations run by locals.  Click to Continue Reading

Store Opening: Vivienne Westwood Party on Melrose

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

To be sure, there was quite to appreciate and fawn over in the newly opened Vivenne Westwood boutique on Melrose Wednesday evening, hosted by Dame Vivienne Westwood making a rare L.A. appearance with husband Andreas Kronthaler. It’s easy to forget the impact Dame Viv has had in fashion, which is why it’s lucky we Angelenos can now experience her wizardry in all it’s glory and try on those yummy wares as well … ! invite to phillip lim aw 2011 show

Cementing his position as a true American sportswear designer, Phillip Lim sent out a line up of game starters for his AW show ….

Contrasting camel leather raglan sleeves popped on a sapphire double faced silk jumpsuit and again on a swirl print floaty ‘gown’, this time with patent leather as the contrast; totally unexpected yet completely right.

This play with color (bright green, sapphire, mustard), texture (armor like beading, shine), and pattern (‘marble’ silks), grounded the collection in signature Lim manner.

Present contingencies as follows: intellect/arts: Anne Duong and Salmon Rushdie (OMG), IT gals: Dani Stahl (love love the hair), Jen Brill (looking oh so good in bright pink lips!) and Sky Ferreira …. oh and you couldn’t miss the Anna Della Russo under a towering gold cherry headpiece …. ooh lala! DAY 6 NYFW AW 11: Valentine’s Day at Alice & Olivia and Chris Benz at New York Fashion Week

14 FEB 2011

alice & olivia aw 2011

It’s no surprise Stacey Bendet knows what a girl likes…and most likely what a girl can have!

Choosing a sumptuous alcove at The Plaza on Valentine’s Day with champers, chocolate, cookies and cocktails, this designer knows how to do it right …

The Alice & Olivia presentation/tableau worked perfectly in this old world atmosphere: tulle, sequins, feathers and a bit of edge worked their way into this collection. There was the queen bee in a full skirt sparkly frock, the crasher in leather jeans and stripey mohair, the grand dame in 20′s style fringe and fur…take your pick and pick it apart as these looks work as separates as well … after all, that is the essence of this label and why it is such a success!

And of course on hand to congratulate Bendet were Vanessa Hudgens, (in coral flapper coutesy of A&O), Becka Diamond, Minnie Mortimer and DJ Mia Moretti, rockin in a lil string tie and boy ensemble … ! Click to Continue Reading

Cushnie et Ochs aw 2011

Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs of label Cush nie et Ochs showed a strong, sexy runway show of 36 looks @ Milk this evening. High waisted flared trousers paired with silk georgeette blouses and fringe trimmed fitted jackets set the tone early on … this lady is in charge!

Super skinny pencil silhouettes were worn with ‘hair’ garters; giving the illusion of fur hems on wool crepe and felt dresses and skirts. Fit on the more formal looks was very impressive; especially a black stretch moire Fishbone dress: the drape in the bodice was deep yet not too revealing and the back seemed suspended by no other means other than good tailoring … the perfect red carpet look for a confident nominee indeed. Fashion Week AW11: Rachel Antonoff (NEW YORK DAY 4)

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

rachel antonoff aw 2011

One of my favorite presentations in past seasons has been Rachel Antonoff‘s for her namesake collection of pretty, fun and un pretentious frocks and separates … well, this one takes the cupcake!

‘The Dance’ had us back in the high school gym for a formal dance; spiked punch and all. LA’s most stylish girl band The Like played live for the couples on the dance floor, the wallflowers on the bleachers and several single shy girls … all resplendent in an array of soft brocade waisted pinafores and printed silk chiffon shirtdresses. There were also ‘formal’ shorts paired with a nordic inspired sweater…I even spied an ‘angel’ whose wings were a delicate cluster of organza pleats arranged down her back…a dream….

The real clincher were the shoes Rachel has been designing with Bass!! She has reworked these classics in a variety of ways that it makes it hard to choose just one pair…there was a tartan plaid lace-up, a crimson velvet slip on and a shiny patent … !

Fans on hand included Cobra Snake and uber cool chic Alexa Chung, but of course. Click to Continue Reading

Wildfox AW 2011

All was good at the Hudson hotel’s Good Unit for the Almost Famous A/W Wildfox presentation. Pretty girls all dressed to tour with the band and break a few hearts along the way … co-designer/ musical icon Kim Gordon was on hand to celebrate with designer Emily Faulstich on this absolutely super fun collection! Calling all cool chic! Start queuing up for the Star burst tees and spangled bells … yah! If that wasn’t enough Leigh Lezark and The Misshapes we’re on hand for a live performance … not bad for first eve of this NYFW … Click to Continue Reading

People Magazine Host Red Carpet Style Party at Newly Remodeled Decades Atelier

Lady Gaga's 2009 MTV Movie Awards dress from Jean Paul Gaultier

Crowded into the newly remodeled Decades Atelier last night was a mad mix of stalwart chic and indie cuties; all here to admire the selection of Red Carpet gowns worn by celebrities at various awards shows.

Looking ab femme in pretty JC Obando mini was Rose Mc Gowan, tho she did accessorize with some killer spiky Louboutins…! Statuesque in a paiette festooned knit dress, Whitney Port took it all in whilst sipping her champy….my fave boho chic gal complete in a sequined spotted caftan (!),of course, who else but Gillian Zinser!

On display was that head turner white jersey Azzaro worn by Diane Lane at the Academy Awards in ’04.

A crowd fave was the ruffled Louis Vuitton Zoe Saldana donned at the ’09 Globes. There was even a GaGa ensemble … JPG from her walk at the MTV Awards ’09; quite tame and no need for refrigeration…..

Lucky Mag & Nicole Richie Fete at Soho House

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Chit chat is what was going on in every corner at Soho House Monday evening… gaggles of girls and sportie doods enjoyed the yummy mini sliders and grilled cheese sandwiches here to toast Lucky magazine cover girl Nicole Richie (L.A. native).

Engaged in New Year catching up were fashion designer Minnie Mortimer with gorgeous twin sisters Marlene and Coliena Reintmeister … Marlene is a great stylist and Coliena is a contributing photographer at the mag. Richie was radiant in a berry cut velvet single sleeve Pucci mini … she was very busy posing with Big Love’s Gennifer Goodwin, (love her pixie coif!) and Zooey Deshanel (L.A. native); such diverse styles for one room indeed! Other local peeps included my dinner mates George Kotsiopolis and fashion designer Corey Lynn Calter, looking super gorg in one of her own creations … On our way out we ran into the ever chic Zoe Saldana sporting a killer leather Moto jacket … Squeezing in a bit of recreation our favorite indie director/provocative photographer Patrick Hoelck cued up with a leggy lovely at the billiards …

Art Opening: Gia Coppola & Louis Eisner Group Show Opening

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

invitation for frank pic opening

It was quite a reception Saturday night for all the YPT on the Westside for the opening of a group show at Frank Pictures gallery in Bergamont Station.

Then again, what would you expect when the offspring of such L.A. luminaries like Jacqui Coppola Getty and Eric & Lisa Eisner, (check Lisa out in the current French Vogue guest edited by her pal Tom Ford!!), Gia Coppola (looking effortlessly chic in Chinese PJ trousers), continues captivating a certain sensual innocence that is oh so appealing, here with frequent collaborator Natalie Love as model (mom is Lisa Love, L.A. based Vogue editor).

Louis Eisner was supported not only by his parents but also in attendance were Roman Alonso from Commune and his DJ bro Charlie Eisner.

Impressive work from a roster of mostly under 25ers , my fave was a wax sculture by Jane Moseley, who recently shared a group show with Sage Grazer (daughter of Brian Grazer, no name dropping here …) in NYC at Elga Wimmer gallery. Cute peeps, brooskies and eye candy of the art type and we were more than satisfied with a well spent evening …

Cameron Silver, Magda Berliner, Brooks Brothers' Black Fleece Show, Lily Collins

Wining and dining guests, shoppers, supporters and devotees of Project Angel Food were out in full force Wednesday evening to kick off another Divine Design week of fundraising that includes slashed down merchandise from fashion and housewares to beauty products (yummy scented candles and Kate Sommerville face products are big faves). It’s become somewhat of a tradition to meet Lily Collins and her mom during this portion of the evening as we scope out the best deals that we know are not going to last! (I spy gorg kellim rugs and red coral …). Off in our golf carts to join the rest of the crowd at the Bevery Hilton Ballroom for cocktails and dinner … Booth Moore, Cameron Silver, Darren Star, Brooks Brothers’s Arthur Wayne, Jennifer Egan, Allison Blumenfeld, Craig and Shell Cardon – it was like a locals only reunion of sorts! Jane Mayle Kamikaze Pop-Up Store on Melrose Place

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Slideshow:
Fullscreen:

Mayle afficionados were delighted and awed Thursday evening at the VIP shopping fete to kick off Jane Mayle‘s eponymous pop up store on Melrose Place. Distraction by way of sake and wine held no power over Jennifer Meyer-Maquire (popping in between engagements and mothering!), Maya Rudolph ( she is so cute in person..), Tennessee Thomas ( also between engagements, hers being a gig her band The Like were playing later that evening), and a bevy of other well heeled ladies!

So glad to be in town, Jane brought along her easy, feminine and effortless designs: neck tie printed dresses in a variety of patterns-a great silhouette for any body type that can take you from work meeting to dinner to holiday parties….ruffle embellished jumpers, pants and shorts for the sassy gal, a variety of jackets and toppers in nubby knits!

On hand as well were a wide selection of handbags, carry alls, cluthes, belts (the jeweled double banded has my name on it…!), and of course fringed booties of all sorts!

The space was reminiscent of her Nolita outpost she shuttered almost two years ago tho I had this nagging feeling something was missing…I asked Jane where the Votivo Red Currant candles had gone? On cue, she procured a new candle she developed as the new Mayle scent….oh, so glad to have you back…….

Book Fetes … Yul Brenner at Lead Apron, 3DD at Bookmarc, Bret Easton Ellis & Jonathan Gold at Hammer

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

It’s been quite a literate week for Angelenos this week … two new tomes were feted last evening; never mind that both were photo books with not much text - both quite different in it’s purpose and point of view. Lead Apron hosted Victoria Brynner‘s edit of her father and Oscar winner Yul Brynner‘s gorgeous, rich and thought  provoking images of still lifes, film sets and intimate moments of friends such as Audrey Hepburn, (Victoria’s godmother), Joan Collins and Salvador Dali. One telling image of Frank Sinatra exiting a helicopter with a high ball glass in hand made me smile…wow, how stylish indeed! Behind the scenes moments include extras from ‘The Ten Commandments‘ awaiting their next scenes, all in full period costume or the script supervisor from ‘The King and I‘ in casual lounge attire truly epitomizing the fashion and attitude of that era (mid 1950′s), truly inspiring …

Down the street but many decades away photographer Henry Hargreaves clinked cans of Sofia champy with fellow LA hipsters and NYC visitiors @ the newly opened BookMarc, yet another addition to the Marc Jacobs real estate empire on Melrose and Melrose Place. ( BookMarc on Bleeker launched in September during NY Fashion Week.) The book , 3DD complete with 3D eyewear is a collection of, what else? … Boobs, Breasts, Knockers, Titties, etc. … and who doesn’t enjoy those … ??

The shop specializes in limited print art/photography usually related to fashion, architecture and pop culture; just in time for the holidays! Shop Shop folks!

Seriously cool Marc Jacobs sharpies can now be yours!!

Hammer Talk

On to the Hammer …. the museum hosted a conversation between Bret Easton Ellis – a well respected author who highlights local and pop culture in the six semi- autobiographical novels set in Los Angeles circa the late 80′s/early 90′s, and New York City during the hey day of Wall Street, and unbridled hedonism – and Jonathan Gold – a Pulitzer Prize winning food critic and writer known for his penchant of ethnic’ hole in the walls’ very south of the 101 and currently the food critic at L.A. Weekly ………..

Or so we were lead to believe.

What we got was one continuous monologue by Mr. Ellis, who supplied the Four Loko (3 different flavours….), and for some reason couldn’t bring himself to look at Mr. Gold once during the 90 minutes or so they were on stage … Luckily many audience members engaged Mr. Gold with inquiries which he graciously responded with knowledge and humor….. someone even boldly asked Mr. Ellis if he in fact didn’t have any questions for Mr.Gold, giving us finally an exchange between two interesting, smart fellows…..

MOCA Gala 2010

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

THIS IS A HAPPENING! I consider a great LA night when a convergence of local talent is pooled to create a memorable shared experience; last night MOCA delivered … IN SPADES! After the red carpet and cocktail hour where I never quite made it into the exhibit titled ‘The Artist’s Museum’, organized by Rebecca Morse (then again, I didn’t make it to the exhibit last year as well….); guests proceeded into the tent that was erected in the middle of Grand Avenue downtown LA for the MOCA Winter Gala envisioned by artist Doug AitkenRachel Bilson, Chloe Sevigny, Mila Kunis, Elodie Bouchez, Kate Bostworth, Peter Marino, Kristen Dunst, Ginnifer Goodwin … flanked by their publicists and BFF’s at the Chanel table, Chanel fine jewelry being a sponsor for the evening; needless to say plenty of sprarkly bobbles and lace abounded at the longest table in the room.
