Gilt City Los Angeles Media Brunch at the Palihouse

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

We never thought of ourselves as media, but then one day it became so … And now, we do media things. Since we always did brunch anyway, a media brunch sounded right up our alley. So, what is a media brunch? Picture a press conference on West Wing, but with omelets in lieu of microphones.  Click to Continue Reading

While we here in America will be finalizing our tax returns, the French will be toasting the annual re-opening of the gem of the French Riviera; Hotel du Cap.

The Hotel du Cap shuts down from October 15th to April 15th every year, and on the opening day each spring (today) champagne is served to the first guests to arrive at the hotel.

Hotel Du Cap was originally built as a private mansion in 1863 by the former owner of Le Figaro newspaper, Auguste de Villemessant.

The hotel has undergone massive renovations in the last 5 months conducted by current owner Mme Maja Oetker who is also an interior designer. Click to Continue Reading

I Love You, But … What’s with the lines at Rite Aid Beverly Hills?

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

What’s the deal with lines at Rite-Aid?  Since I was 5 they haven’t figured out how to deal with the check out counters. It’s astonishing I, and everyone else in town, still bother to go there. Locals still call it Thrifty. Persian kids from Beverly hang out in the parking lot. There are always homelss people. The underground parking is terrifying. Sometimes you are charged for parking, sometimes you are not. However, everybody goes anyway. We really shouldn’t but we do. And we will keep doing it. Because we have no choice. I promise my business to anyone who opens up another pharmacy near me WITH A PARKING LOT (NOT A PARKING STRUCTURE NEARBY).

DT NEWS: Have I mentioned the Daily Truffle has a column on Haute Living?

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

It’s true. We recently struck up a deal with our friends over at Haute Living who publish magazines all over the U.S. in Texas, San Fransisco, New York and L.A. to provide them with content from time to time when there is a good fit. Here is our latest contribution to the magazine you can read on their website now; written by our lovely Miss Lauren Brokaw.

Facebook Has Made My Life Better Today

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

A friend of ours from high school recently died of a rare cancer call Thymic cancer; I hate to dignify it with a capital, but I want this post to be clear. Our friend used Facebook to reach out to a group of us from Harvard Westlake in the final months of his life. He was able to locate all of us and talk about old times though he never said a word about the disease, and no one suspected. Today, we all have the same experience now that we are all talking … yes, over Facebook … about how he joined the site in late summer and struck up old friendships with everyone after basically being out of touch since high school.

I was at another friends’ birthday lunch a few years ago, who shall remain nameless, and I was trying to explain Facebook and Twitter to the girl’s mother and another guest at the brunch who is a well known actress. The mother said, geez who has time for all that? To which the celebrity smirked and eyeball rolled me … Well, that celebrity got on both Twitter and Facebook about one day later, and the mother now does social networking for her charity work on Facebook too.

Thanks to Facebook, our dear friend was able to reach out to us in this time of need and we were able to rekindle the old friendship. I love him for thinking of me and am so grateful I saved those IM chats as my high school group is now sharing stories – yes, on Facebook – and I can pass the memory along. I never thought about Facebook in this way but am so grateful this outlet was available to him and of course all of us as well. Some people may still think Facebook is for high school or people who have too much time on their hands, but now that I’ve seen the gift of comradery on a whole new level, I just wanted to share the experience in hopes you all take advantage at the ease in which we can enhance our lives today with this universal directory of your past. Much, much love to our poor, dear, beloved friend and his family.

Vote Gold! Julian Gold for Beverly Hills City Council 2011

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

I’ve met Dr. Gold many times. He is smart. He has good ideas. And he knows how to handle the future of our town. He is the right man for the job and I encourage anyone living in Beverly Hills to vote for him in the upcoming City Council election on March 8.

* March 1st is the last day to mail in your ballot; you can download a mail-in ballot on Julian Gold’s campaign website here. I will pay for your stamp. You can also vote in person at City Hall on Rexford Drive in Beverly Hills on March 8 between 7am and 8pm. Park at the library which has 2 hour free parking (no validation required). Walk west across Rexford (stop for a Kelly’s cappuccino if so desired) and VOTE!

The two most compelling reasons to vote for Julian are his business background and his intelligence. Doctor level intelligence. No seriously. He is the head of Anesthesiology at Cedars Sinai. Not kidding. He runs a department of 120 doctors and 50 staff. Life and death decisions. Made every day. Are you thinking he won’t have time? Don’t worry – he has been on the Parks and Recreations Commission for years and was also the head of the Little League here in Beverly Hills. He also has sat on the Board of Directors at Cedars Sinai overseeing the entire hospital and handling a near 2 billion budget.

My father, who originally introduced us, once told me – if you want to get something done, ask a busy person.

I want a smart, efficient, compassionate candidate to be on my city council! Don’t you? Click to Continue Reading

Word is that Equinox is still bitter from loosing the space to Sports Club and is moving across the street to make their life miserable. We also hear there membership dues will be half as much. Current Sports Club L.A. dues are $160.

BEVERLY HILLS NEWS: Storms & Double Rainbows in Beverly Hills

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Every Facebook user on The Daily Truffle homepage living in Los Angeles seemed to upload the same photo of a rainbow around 4pm today shortly followed by more pics of a double rainbow, signifying the end of the endless storms. Sorry to our friends stuck in Heathrow and JFK!

Quite the change from last week when Beverly Hills Fire Department tweeted that all BH residents should go and get sandbags. I personally was getting buckets to collect fresh rain water after hearing from the EWG that our water sources had been compromised by the “Erin Brockovich Chemical”, known as Chromium-6, which has been found in L.A. tap water – an interesting side note – Erin Brockovich’s daughter went to Beverly and is super cute.

There are all these times when I sit at my house debating if I should go running outside or go to my gym. The gym has my favorite yoga teacher but why would I drive all the way to the gym when I could just walk out my front door and be in the fresh air? But I hate jogging and running into my neighbors and there is no incline. Of course there could be a cute boy walking his dog. But there is no where with more men than the gym. Hmmm …

I recently found a pretty good happy medium to the inside vs outside workout. Click to Continue Reading

Please Meet: My Bunny ‘Mademoiselle’ of Beverly Hills

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Mademoiselle is made by a company called Dandies. Every Morning Mademoiselle gets her bow tied. In the afternoon, she meets with her friends in my room and sometimes rearrange things. Every night she watches movies from her box seat (Prada shoe box), unless she’s too tired.  On Saturdays, she goes shopping for new ribbons and new shoes. On Sunday nights, Kukui (my brother’s rescue puppy) comes to visit her. This is her entourage pictured below and includes Kukui, Mademoiselle’s bunny (the little white one who doesn’t have a name) and her friend from New Zealand who is a lamb (though in NZ they say “mutton”).

I spied Mademoiselle sitting on a Rite Aid shelf (formerly known as Thrifty’s) in Beverly Hills a week before Easter. I couldn’t believe how life like she looked – I’d never quite seen anything so sweet. Years later, my mother bought Mademoiselle her her own little bunny (the little white one of the left) so she could have some responsibility, and a little friend.

I need some sort of beauty salon for Mademoiselle. I use to know of an old doll hospital in Santa Monica where I took my Madame Alexander dolls for repair. If anyone knows where to get stuffed animals cleaned, please let me know.

From left to Right - Mademoiselle's bunny, Mademoiselle, my brother's rescue Kukui, my lamb from New Zealand.

Hollywood Meets the Hill: New Political Column Asks Celebrities What They Would Say in 5 Minutes with The President

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Our friends over at The Creative Coalition (representing Hollywood in Washington DC) just told me CEO Robin Bronk  will be furthering their mission to connect Washington DC with the world via Hollywood (a genius plan and one of my future missions as well) in a new column she is writing for The Hill’s gossip section “Washington Scene”.

The Hill’s (DC’s newspaper and online blog) Washington Scene is literally better than Page Six and one of my models for The Daily Truffle. They go inside DC as best anyone can to highlight the social players and connect the dots between legislation, lobbyists, people and parties.

The concept of Robin’s column, based of the book she edited for Harper Collins while George Bush was in the White House, also called “5 Minutes with The President,” is to have producers, actors & directors give their view on what the most important issues are right now – and how to fix them.

Now with a new President in power, Robin thought it was time for a new edition. The Hill publisher Fran McMahon, thought so too this year when she and Robin were seated at the same table this year at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner – which is arguably the most important and glamorous party in the world. The event is held annually at The White House and invited media outlets are asked to send celebrities and correspondents for a night of connecting and collaborating with politicians in DC.

This year The Creative Coalition brought along Tim Daly, Adrian Grenier, Patricia Arquette and several others, proving that Robin’s strong connection with celebrities and influence in Washington makes her the perfect player to pen this column.

I just got on the phone with Robin, a friend of a friend, to find about more about her new column. “It’s not a place to rant and rave. This is where you have 5 minutes to convince the President; what do you say??” – Robin Bronk, CEO Creative Coalition

Her column will appear on Wednesdays when Congress is in session and will be featured online at The Hill’s Washington Scene website (washingtonscene.thehill.com). Upcoming columns feature interviews with Adrian Grenier, Trudie Styler, America Ferrara, Tim Daly and other notables.

The Creative Coalition (TCC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity organized by the creative community to learn about pressing issues so they can better inform the public and nation.

Ramen Pop-Up Restaurant at Breadbar on 3rd Street in WeHo

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

I’ve seen the pop-up store, popularized in L.A. by Commes des Garcon in a downtown alley. I’ve seen a pop up gym at the Muscle Milk fitness retreat in a Beverly Hills residence earlier this year. I’ve seen pop-up food trucks, and pop-up sex books – but I have never in all my years seen a pop-up restaurant within another restaurant. This month, Breadbar hands over it’s kitchen to uber Japanese ramen makers “Yatai | Ramen Twist.” Click to Continue Reading
