Idiot Proof / Most Delish Sweet Potato Soufflé Recipe Ever…!

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

My mom made the most delicious sweet potato souffle that I have ever flipping had in my entire life. Here’s why this is good news for u: My mom cannot cook, literally… It’s not because she doesn’t want to, she just is really bad at it.   If this came out amazing then imagine how much more delish it would be if someone who could remotely cook whipped this up?! Given that my mom cannot cook, and this recipe wasn’t destroyed, then it must be easy to make ! F.Y.I. In a year of writing for the DT, I have never endorsed a recipe. Click to Continue Reading

Lanvin for H&M at the Beverly Center!

Lanvin <3 H&M

Wristband color codes for those waiting in line.  All over America, people started to wait in line last night.

I know I said I was going to get up at 5:30 am, but I didn’t, I just didn’t have it in me !

Lindsey and I headed over to the Beverly Center around 1:30 p.m., which was super crowded but not sold completely sold out.  I had gone in wanting a lot more things then I walked out with, due to the quality and what they had left !

There are a few things I want that were sold out, those I will go to other H&Ms for.

I walked away with 2 dresses and 3 canvas bags, totaling over 500$, and the sad thing is that I don’t know if I will ever wear either dress!

A few things I must note:

I LOVED how the employees all wore special Lanvin <3 H&M tees

I realllyyyy wanted a garment bag, but they only gave  them to men who bought suits or women who bought the huge puffy dresses

The giant puffy dresses will under no circumstances look good on anyone.  If you think you look good in this dress, you are delusional, or super model thin. Click to Continue Reading

Paparazzi Central, a Pumpkin Patch in Beverly Hills?

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

For whatever reason – I am guessing due mostly to its centralized location – the patch [MR. BONES PUMPKIN PATCH ON DOHENY DRIVE]has been a celebrity magnet ever since its inception almost two and a half decades ago.  Anyone who’s anyone stops by there during the month of October for a bit of Halloween fun.  Just a few of the stars who have been spotted there recently include Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott, The Girls Next Door’s Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt, Britney Spears, Marcia Cross, Scott Baio, Chris Noth, Sara Gilbert, Justin Chambers, Jessica Alba, Mark Wahlberg, Courteney Cox, Christina Aguilera, Laurence Fishburne, Halle Berry, Usher, Breckin Meyer, Dave Grohl, Victoria’s Secret-model Alessandra Ambrosio, and Cougar Town’s Busy Philipps.  I could literally go on and on here, but that gives you somewhat of an idea of the patch’s extensive celebrity clientele.  Unfortunately, the GC and I did not see any stars while we were stalking the place this past Sunday, but we did run into Heidi Klum and Seal during our first visit there back in 2007 (the two are pictured above) and last year we missed both Tori Spelling and Gwen Stefani by mere minutes!  UGH! – via www.iAmNOTaStalker.com

Fall 2010 Fashion: Dior Couture Show en Paris

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

The first thing I thought of while looking at the images from this show was the Flower Song from Alice in Wonderland.

Instead of my usual coverage from Couture shows (history, collages, details, front row scoop, etc) I have decided to just post some spectacular pictures from Olivier Zahm’s blog, Purple Diary.  I will be back to my old tricks come October for THE REAL Paris Fashion Week.

I just HAD to do something on this show because A. You know my favorite things ever are ball gowns and dress up, and B. The house, flowers, and some gowns remind me of Alice in Wonderland, which I admit I need help with as everything I see reminds me somehow of the book or films!

Anthony House in Cornwall, GB, used in Alice in Wonderland (2010)

I am obsessed with the abstract angles that these pictures were shot at; I want a few framed and put on my walls!  I’m also fascinated and in loveee with the up close pictures, I feel like I’m there and could touch the fabric.  These up close shots do much more for me than Style.com’s detail and beauty shots.

I included Olivier in piece I did with Blogs.com on the top 10 Fashion/ Party Photographers

Fashion Week AW10: Viktor and Rolf … Were they lost in Wonderland?

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Ok, so I admit that I have been fully obsessed with all this Alice in Wonderland buisness thats been going on (my nails are currently Mad as a Hatter from the OPI Alice Collection), but I swear that I haven’t let it effect my work!

With that being said, while watching the video and going through the pics from Viktor and Rolf’s Fall 2010 show, I kept thinking of the Red Queen, played by Helena Bonham Carter.

…. Cut to me watching Viktor and Rolf’s Fall 2010 runway show and thinking,”Wow, the Red Queen would really love this show”!  Throughout the movie she talks about how she loves largeness and she likes things that are abnormally big.

At one point, Alice eats a piece of a cake to make her grow but she eats too much of it, and is now visible to the Queen.  Red Queen is looking for Alice but is not aware that Alice is this “large girl” and tells her minions to “clothe this incredibly large girl immediately” (I have taken the liberty of providing you with a clip of the scene I was just talking about.)

Two other parts in the movie that have to do with un-proportionate largeness are when when the Knave of Hearts pins Alice aganist the wall and tells her ” I like largeness”, and when The Mad Hatter tries to get out of trouble by offering to make the queen a hat for her large head.
Members of Red Queens court all have LARGE exaggerated fake body parts, whether it be a a large nose, stomach, chin, boobs, etc.

-Never a dull moment-

Viktor Horsting and Ralph Snoeren, dutch conceptualists, always have the most interesting shows; its just a fact you must live with.  Their shows are always captivating and overly amazing because of their creativity and their ability to make every show so random and entertaining while keeping the clothing and design beautiful and intricate.

In 1998, Viktor & Rolf put on an unauthorized, underground fashion show during Paris Fashion Week designed to attract members of the press.

An early fashion presentation was titled ‘Russian Doll’ (Autumn/Winter 1999-2000). A lone model, Maggie Rizer , was positioned on a revolving platform to be dressed by the designers in nine garments, one on top of the other as a Russian doll in reverse.

Viktor & Rolf have gained attention for their artistic, concept-driven catwalk presentations.  They have also used a collection of International Klein Blue clothes as a chroma-key blue-screen to project video. In their Fall 2007 collection, each model wore scaffolding with her own lights and music, carrying their own fashion show as it were. For the presentation of their first menswear collection, they themselves modelled the clothes, changing outfits on the stage. Their collections have featured several performers, like Tilda Swinton, Tori Amos and Rufus Wainwright. Another longtime cooperation is with internationally known photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, who made the photographs for all three of their fragrance campaigns.

Further presentations saw models act as blue-screens in ‘Long Live the Immaterial’ (Bluescreen) (Autumn/Winter 2002-03) a parade that used chroma-key techniques to project moving images onto the garments.  Other collections such as ‘Atomic Bomb’ (Autumn/Winter 1998-99) and ‘Black Light’ (Spring/Summer 1999) have been presented twice. In both cases, models paraded the catwalk twice, first as a performative spectacle, and again to display the wearable collection.

Presentations have also featured several performers including Tilda Swinton on whom ‘One Woman Show’(Autumn/Winter 2003-04) was based, Tori Amos who performed in ‘Bedtime Story’ (Autumn/Winter 2005-06) and Rufus Wainwright who performed in ‘Ballroom’(Spring/Summer 2007).

Viktor & Rolf

Some refer to Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren as the Gilbert and George of fashion, a comparison that goes beyond their twinned, bespectacled appearance. Since Viktor & Rolf began making clothes in 1993 after graduating from the Netherlands’ Arnhem Academy of Art and Design, they have endeavored to blur the line between art and fashion. The Dutch duo’s runway presentations are typically high on concept, showmanship, and wit. And like all good artists they can infuriate as well as delight. A few (out of many) examples of their unusual approach: an entirely topsy-turvy show with upside-down dresses and an ear-splitting backwards soundtrack, a provocative all-black show (including the models’ faces), and a presentation featuring, on a revolving turntable, a single model who was layered in look after look like a Russian doll.

Though early on they were known for wowing the fashion press but not selling a stitch, Horsting and Snoeren have since tapped into their commercial potential. They made a move from haute couture to ready-to-wear in 2000, launched a perfume called Flowerbomb (and packaged it in a grenade-shaped bottle) in 2004, drew frenzied crowds for their collaboration with fast-fashion retailer H&M in 2006, and opened a boutique on the Via Sant’Andrea in Milan. Earlier this year the pair sold a controlling stake of its business to Diesel owner Renzo Rosso. “We have high ambitions,” Snoeren commented to The New York Times, which also reported their plans to open five more boutiques within the next few years. Nevertheless, their penchant for surrealism hasn’t diminished: Their 15-year retrospective at London’s Barbican Art Gallery, called The House of Viktor & Rolf, consisted of a gigantic dollhouse populated by 55 dolls, each wearing a Viktor & Rolf look re-created in miniature.

Fall 2010 Fashion: Just Cavalli and Albino Fall 2010

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

I am usually not a big fan of Just Cavalli and I have never heard of this designer Albino, but something about the images below I LOVEEE!

They are not usually things I would wear or like but for some reason I reallllyyy love them!

I saw a review of the Just Cavalli show which upset me earlier because for someone who writes for the highest authority in fashion, they need to wear glasses.

I wasn’t going to get into the horridness of the NYC fashion shows two weeks at fashion week, but based off a review I read of the Just Cavalli show, I feel I must address it….just a tiny bit.

The majority of the New York shows that I saw I hated because for 20 plus reasons (I may get into that on another day).

For someone to say that this show “went amiss” because of the fabric, too many things going on, quality of the clothes, and the fit, is just malarkey to me !!! You saw Betsey Johnson’s show and said nothing…. her show was a disaster and everything times ten of what you said was wrong with this show!  You didn’t say anything about any of the real disasters but you choose to say it now…?  I have never been a big fan of Cavalli or Just Cavalli, I’m not defending them as much as I’m annoyed with the crap I saw in NYC that went unnoticed and NOW you choose to say something.

And I’m sorry but to say that ” There probably aren’t tons of girls out there who are going to rock that head-to-toe look, and add a lace-edged dickey into the mix.” is funny to me because what girl/ woman do you know who wears head to toe of one designer?  Hasn’t it been said a million times that one who can buy high and low and mix and match from different designers is one who has true style?  One who has to copy a runway look head to toe has no creativity or style at all.

I mean… you can actually tell that these girls are models, a lot of the NYC shows there was no trace of real models because the clothes fit so poorly and were so over sized.

And for my last point, most of the NYC shows (not the big ones) had no femininity or glamour to them.

There is a lot more I could say, but I shall not beat a dead horse.

Fashion Week AW10: Marchesa, SO THIS IS LOVE *Swan Lake*

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

So this is LOVE

Once upon a time, Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman were born with a future destined to make the most beautiful dresses known to man.

All the fairest maidens in the land would wear Marchesa to the balls, and would be delivered on white swans….can you hear the harp playing, I can?

In my day dreams as a child, the fairies and princesses wore Marchesa.

Didn't you know? Cinderella wears Marchesa

Early this morning I viewed the Marchesa Fall 2010 fashion show, and all the sudden my heart started to race and I got butterflies in my stomach, or shall I saw swans.

I have no idea what Heaven looks like, or if there is a Heaven, but I imagine Heaven to have flocks of women dressed in Marchesa gowns with these amazing bow heels.

This collection reminded me of the ballet Swan Lake, the book/movie The Ice Queen, The 12 dancing princesses, and gowns that an ice skater would wear.

I will be really peeved if someone amazing doesn’t wear one of these Fall 2010 gowns to the Academy Awards.

And they all lived happily ever after….

Fall 2010 Fashion: Cynthia Steffe channels Eloise at the Plaza

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Eloise makes me think of my sister, Wendy, and my tons of trips to New York per year as a little girl.  My sister’s favorite childhood book has always been Eloise at the Plaza.  We are 16 years apart, and when I was a little girl she would always read/tell me about Eloise, and I could never get enough!

I spent a lot of time in NYC as a child, and always wanted to meet and play with Eloise and her dog Weenie.  I would anxiously eat with my family at the Palm Court, hoping to get a glimpse of Eloise.  I also was known  for dragging various members of my group over to see her portrait.

Upon looking at the pictures from Cynthia Steffe’s Fall 2010 collection, I immediately thought of Eloise, and NOT just because of the white socks and black mary janes ;-)  If only the models from this show carried or walked pugs on the runway, it would of been perfecttt!

“Two years after the first Eloise book’s publication, a painting by Knight was hung in the lobby of the hotel. “We’ve had generations of mothers bringing daughters or grandmothers bringing granddaughters to the hotel to see the portrait or go to the Palm Court to have tea,” Curt Gathje, the Plaza’s manager of the office of the president and unofficial house historian said.

The portrait disappeared after a fraternity party. As the story goes, when Princess Grace toured the hotel with her children, she was dismayed to find the portrait gone. After that, Knight painted a new oil painting that now hangs opposite the hotel’s Palm Court, where Eloise lunches on rainy days. A postcard version of the portrait was sold in the hotel.” – Eloisewebsite.com

Inside the Plaza, there was an Eloise Ice Cream parlor and there was a special menu inside the Palm Court restaurant.

The Palm Court, Where Eloise ate on rainy days

I just got back from New York, which obviously meant that I went out of my way to go to the Plaza Hotel to see the new Eloise shop.  All I can say is that it is QUITE unfair this shop/tea house/boudoir/dress up haven did not exist when I was a little girl, or maybe it’s better for my family that it didn’t exist, as I would never want to leave!

About the Plaza:

The Plaza, home of Eloise is located in New York City at Fifth Avenue at Central Park South. Designed by famed architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, “the greatest hotel in the world” opened October 1, 1907. Built on the site of a 15-year-old predecessor of the same name, no expense was spared on the 19-story, French Renaissance “château.” Marble lobbies, solid mahogany doors, 1,650 crystal chandeliers, Swiss organdy curtains, privately manufactured Irish linens, and gold-encrusted china were just a few of its features. And now, as a member of America’s Family of Grand Hotels, The Fairmont Hotels, this National and City Historic Landmark structure is once again as it was always meant to be …the premier hotel of New York. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places. – Eloisewebsite.com
