L.A. Nightlife: Wednesdays at Jeff Beacher’s Madhouse

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Job well done to Mr. Jeff Beacher, as I really did feel like I was at a mad house last night! One would never guess that RIGHT off the lobby of the Roosevelt hotel, you can walk through a book shelf and down a hallway of mirrors, only to enter a world with dancing animals, flying midgets popping bottles, and contortionists.

Rest in Peace, Don Hill

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Word is just getting out that Don Hill, who ran his self-named famed rock club on Spring St. for almost twenty years, died today. There’s a memorial at midnight, 12 am Friday. No official word has come out yet but everyone from Moby to Bebe Buell is spreading the news with great sadness. Don was somewhere, I’d guess, between 65 and 75. He was ageless, though. With the end of CBGB and the Bottom Line and dozens of other clubs, Don Hill’s was the last original rock club. Recently Nur Khan and Paul Sevigny bought in and spruced the place up, but it was still Don Hill’s. All the great and legendary restaurateurs and club owners, from Elaine Kaufman to Don Hill, are disappearing now. We are at the end of not just an era, but maybe an eon. Rock on, Don. – Showbiz 411  Click to Continue Reading

Justin Timberlake is returning to music!! A friend of mine was cast in his music video. More to come on that!

Wow, Armie Hammer apparently has a spell on Hollywood! Hammer is currently filming the J.Edgar Hoover biopic with Leo Dicaprio, and is set to play the prince in Tarsem Singh’s Snow White.  I am DESP to know more about this film, as I love Taresm, but am not sure how he will come at a big budget main stream hollywood film… OH YA, Julia Roberts is playing the Evil Queen!

My favorite person ever, Chris Liley, creator/actor/genius behind Summer Heights High, is returning toHBO with a new show called Angry Boys. #thereisagod

#LAnatives: Beacoup B-days @ Spare Room in the Roosevelt: Adam Moonves + Whitney Davis

HBD to la natives Adam Moonves and Whitney Davis.

In true b-day spirit, I should be including silly photos of Adam and some of the crew from way back when (middle school, gasp), but I won’t. Not something I’d normally document, however, I thought important to highlight seeing so many family friends & LA natives for over ten/fifteen years, which you might call rare (There were a few friends that I had not seen in over 7 years)!!

PFW 2011: Givenchy, Balmain, Dior, OH MY!

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

This last week at Paris Fashion Week, Fall/Winter 2011 has definitely been one for the books !

Cha cha cha changesss

Balmain

• Where were you last Thursday? I was en route to get lunch with my bffer Sabrina and will always remember that day as the day I heard my god/hero, Balmain’s Christope Decarnin, left in office one day in January and never returned.  On the way to lunch I read that he was in a mental hospital, which i’m not going to lie devastated me ! I was probably not enjoyable to eat with (Sorry Sabrina!), as I was hooked to Twitter, reading tweets and opinions on why/how Christophe did not show up to his Balmain F/W 2011 show.  We later found out that dear Christophe had just been released from the hospital, most likely due to depression and exhaustion.

Dior

• Everyone has heard this by now: John Galliano was suspended, then fired for making racist anti-semite remarks on film. Click to Continue Reading

Rolling Stone + Justin Bieber + Terry Richardson = YES PLEASE!

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Someone take my temperature!

I never thought I’d say this, and I’m quite embarrassed to admit this, let along blog it, but I think I might be one of the last to come down with Bieber fever…

I’m not a fan of his music (I only know one of his songs), and I have no clue how he made 100 mil last year, but HOT D-A-M-N does Justin Bieber look muy caliente on the cover of Rolling Stone !

Come on though, what else would I expect from LA native, photog extraordinaire, Terry Richardson. Click to Continue Reading

Usher X Belvedere (RED) Pre-Grammys Concert

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Hier soir, the 3 amigos and I started off Grammy weekend the right way, with friends, an open bar, and front row seats to see URRRsher perform at Avalon for the Belvedere (RED) Launch.  The night was full of fun and surprises, with Usher, Mark Ronson and Beth Ditto, putting their musical talents to use… Oh ya, and Jamie Foxx got in an altercation right in front of Jermaine Dupri at the after party. (After, we went to close friend Taylor Russell’s lounge Hemingways, where everyone and their grandmother decided to go to.) Click to Continue Reading

NARS First Flagship // 413 on 2-10-11 // New York

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Francois Nars, genius and makeup lord, cut the ribbon today for his first ever, 525 square foot flagship boutique, in Manhattan’s, West Village.  But where was Marcel and Daphne Guinness ?! (Marcel is Mr. Nars most amazing french bulldog, that has come to represent Nars.)

**Umm on a side note, I’d just like to say that I own a ghastly amount of Nars makeup, and have been doing so since 10th grade ish (9 years?).  My favorite Nars blush and lips gloss dons the name ‘Orgasm” – If you are a cool girl, you know Orgasm. Anyhoo, back to the point of this blurp, I about DIED when Drake dropped Orgasm Blush in the song “Fancy, Huh”.

“I love Bleecker Street, it’s a cool fun area with great shopping, the boutique is very intimate and chic, and the exterior is very ‘old’ West Village, which is nice. The Bleecker Street storefronts are extremely charming.” – Francois Nars

This chic-ly modern boutique boasts a design conceived by Founder and Creative Director François Nars and long-time artistic collaborator and friend Fabien Baron, of Baron & Baron. The boutique fuses elements of modernity and artistry with the feeling of a residential space that is inviting and uniquely NARS. The black and white color scheme echoes the brand’s signature packaging. A red, high gloss lacquer block (color matched to Jungle Red Lipstick) stands at the rear of the boutique, positioned against a matte black wall. Offsetting the vintage accents are modern elements including floor-to-ceiling mirrors that feature hidden illuminated frames and a series of three screens featuring a loop of various films created by the brand. Sooo, what goodies are in store for you at 413 Bleecker? In addition to the full NARS cosmetics product line – displayed in a custom-designed unit , the boutique also carries items both accumulated by François Nars throughout his travels and those that have served as inspiration in his product development (such as Exhibit A, by Guy Bourdin; or Belle de Jour, a film starring Catherine Deneuve).

The boutique officially opens tomorrow, so if I were you, I’d run, not walk there.

François Nars takes a moment to discuss:

Q: What are your favorite elements of the boutique’s design?

A: It’s very sleek and very open. I love the lighting and the use of technology. We incorporated video screens which preview NARS films—it’s all very interactive. The colors are very basic, but strong. Everything is white and black, with touches of red lacquer. It reminds of Guy Bourdin.

I feel in love with Andrew Yang’s hand made dolls a few months ago (doll-gasm!), but was so busy that I did not have time to blog about them… Now I do! Given my mega unhealthy obsession with Nick Knight’s Show Studio, art, fashion, cartoons, dolls and couture you can see why this is so exciting for me … It’s like discovering Fifi Lapin, the Mulberry paper dolls, the Couture Designer Mice or the doll collections from Viktor & Rolf x Lanvin for the first time.

A Raincoat for Your Birkin

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

It is officially now Winter, and with that comes the inevitable rain.  Most fashion houses have already established  a cuter way to wear rain boots as well as other winter accouterments, but I haven’t seen anything like what I am about to show you. This morning, I got soaked upon walking to my car (with my umbrella that broke due to the strong wind forces and heavy down pour of rain). It was at this time, I wished my purse had a raincoat, because leather and water aren’t besties… It was bad enough that my adorbs boots were soaked, and now my Proenza PS1 was soaked too!
