Being an avid concert go-er, one of my fav spots to see a show is Hollywood’s Music Box. I would go as far as saying that most of the best shows I have been to have been at The Music Box.

Top 6 reasons I love the Music Box (in no special order)

1. It is very versatile in the sense that seeing The Kills is just as good as seeing Avicii; I wouldn’t want to see Avicii at the Wiltern.  I have seen a lot of bigger artists that I love here which is amazing because it’s smaller and a more intimate venue then lets say the Hollywood Bowl or the Gibson Amphitheater.

2. It’s the perfect size venue for me; any seat is a good seat or any place you stand you can see all that you need to see. (Let’s remember I am 5’3″)

3. Parking can be a huge pain for some shows but there is always parking somewhere for The Music Box

4. While the huge 3rd floor outdoor patio is a favorite of smokers, I love this outdoor area because it overlooks all of Hollywood to the west and east sides. I also love this area because I can hang out here and talk with friends while waiting for the band I came to see to start; They have TVs outside which show you who is currently on stage.  One is also able to get a drink on the third floor.

5. This theater is very gorgeous and so reminiscent of old Hollywood style theaters.  It’s beauty has withstood since it’s days as the Henry Fonda through today as the Music Box.

6. The acoustics and sound are always on par, unlike other venue’s where it is very hit or miss.

Hollywood’s Music Box has closed its doors, venue promoter Goldenvoice confirms. A spokeswoman for the promoter, however, noted that Goldenvoice was still hoping to stage its events at the space, and concerts that were due to go on sale this weekend, such as a March 22 show for the ’60s influenced pop of the Cults, would go on sale as planned.

“At this time, it is our understanding that the closing of The Music Box is a short term closure, please be patient with us as we work out the details as they pertain to our previously scheduled shows,” wrote the promoter in a statement.

A follow-up call to Goldenvoice yielded little more in the way of information regarding the 1,300-capacity venue, as Goldenvoice’s Lindsay Lyons mentioned the company was still waiting to speak to owners of the Music Box to hopefully sort out details. Calls to all of the Music Box’s executives all went straight to voicemail, and none has been returned yet.

The news was first reported on the blog of LA Weekly writer Lina Lecaro, L.A. Slush. While L.A. Slush quoted anonymous sources, the site reported that venue sound systems and lighting fixtures had been removed from the building.

Tis the season for giving; We need your help and all it takes is a card and a stamp at the least!

Little Lucas Hembree is only 4 and suffering with a terrible terminal illness called Sanfillipo Syndrome which effects his whole body. There is no treatment and no cure for the disease. He uses a wheelchair and rescue dog to help with his mobility and seizures. He has a lot of joint issues that is slowly taking away his complete ability to walk, run, and play. Lucas has 60% hearing lose and uses hearing aids and sign language. His ability to communicate is limited to just a few understandable words.  Doctors expect Lucas to be in a vegetative state within five years.

As a lot of you know I live and die for animal rescue, that being said I also try and do whatever I can to help children who are in need.  This being a child and a rescue pup situ is v close to my heart. Juno, the gorgeous loving sweet German Shepard (above) was rescued (by Lucas’ dad) from a bad shelter and was very close to being put to sleep as she was red listed.  Lucas’ father rescued Juno to train her to be a special needs / service dog.  Juno is very smart and loving which is obvi because it takes a very intelligent dog to be able to be trained this way.

Lucas and Juno have formed an inseparable bond, which makes my heart happy because not only does Lucas have a BFF, but it goes to show people how amazing shelter rescues are.  I have 4 dogs, 3 are rescues and I cannot even tell you how special they are.

Lucas’ family would be so grateful if he could get some cards for the Holidays – This is where we need your help! No matter what your situation is, everyone can afford a postage stamp (44 cents) and a card (if you can’t then use a piece of paper). You're gonna die in here

Spotted! No, not Ben Harmon or Adelaide, but the star of the new hit FX show American Horror Story, meaning the haunted house with a murderous past that resides on the precipice of Hancock Park and Korea Town in Los Angeles … and has quite an interesting history.

While most shows just use the facade of a house but film on a sound stage, AHS actually films in this house. These pictures give me the chills — I cannot imagine filming anywhere on the premises let alone inside!

For those who do not watch the show: American Horror Story is a TV show on FX that centers on the Harmon family (Dylan McDermott plays the dad/psychologist) that moves into a restored mansion that is haunted by its former inhabitants — the previous owner was murdered by his lover, who then killed himself. Along with the house comes kleptomaniac neighbor Constance (Jessica Lange); her mentally challenged daughter Adelaide (Jamie Brewer), the ancient and seductive housekeeper Moira O’Hara (Frances Conroy, Alexandra Breckenridge), Ben’s possibly psychotic patient Tate Langdon (Evan Peters), and Ben’s student and former lover played by Kate Mara. The show first aired in October 2011 and has been renewed for a second season.

The House: Alfred F. Rosenheim Los Angeles Historical Society Property #660 at 1120 Westchester Place and Country Club Drive.  At one point this brick mansion was said to be one of the finest homes in all of LA.

The Architect (if applicable): Alfred Rosenheim who built this house for his personal residence in 1908.  Mr. Rosenheim was a very famed architect who built a lot of well known properties in LA, perhaps most well known for building The Doheny Mansion for Edward Doheny.

Details: Besides being the creepiest house ever (only if you watch AHS will you think this) this house is quite interesting – and if you have 4.5 mil and luv it, it can be yours as it has been on the market for Y E A R S!

So whats inside this 3 story abode? Original Tiffany stained glass windows, Tiffany light fixtures, Tiffany leaded glass display cases, + a chapel that the nuns Sisters of Social Service built which can be seen from the street.  There is still a big plaque on the outside near the garage that has scripture, but the chapel was transformed to a ball room and now is a recording studio. This mansion is 15,000 square feet and has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.

The Sisters of Social Service used this home to operate as a covent in 1946, which is also very scary because in the 3rd episode there are nuns who live in the house and get killed.

In true Lady Gaga fashion (no pun intended), this video both intrigued and confused me…1/2 Girl Interrupted and Black Swan 1/2 Gaga’s creative insanity, Ms. Gaga has definitely not disappointed with this 13 minute long eye opening ‘oh so dramatic’ vid for Marry The Night.

Filled with bedazzled denim, naked Gaga bathing in cereal, crazy stiletto nails, cars up in flames, multiple hair colors, and oh yes, let’s not forget 15 inch ballet shoes- Marry The Night could not be more Gaga.

For every take I thought was cool or interesting, there was another take that threw me for a loop and left me bery perplexed.

No one loves a fairy tale more than I do (I was an embarrassment to society at Disneyland last week), so you can imagine my happiness that not one but two Snow White movies are coming out in 2012 — with epic costumes and phenomenal directors!  For me, the gorgeous costumes are just as exciting as these fairy tale live action films (we are not discussing or counting the Milificent movie as she terrorized my childhood).

I took it upon myself, as a civic duty, to share stills from the upcoming films because as you will see, the costumes are brilliant and I’m really excited about the director, Tarsem Singh (The Cell & The Fall - a truffle must see), whose proclivity for the most vivid and beautiful signature style is unbelievable.  I’m v excited to see him break into mainstream film world; first up for him is Immortals, out soon!

These pics are also interesting for anyone out there who wants to attempt the Lily Collin‘s Snow White look for Halloween.  I must say, for someone who was never a fan of Lily Collins, I am tres excited to see her play Snow White … She looks just like her and I’m secretly hoping she will sing! #Imabeliever

Eiko Ishioka, costumer from Bram Stoker‘s Dracula is the genius responsible for these works of art …. I can see an Academy Award nod for best costuming in 2013!  Every time I see these breath taking costumes, I think of Alexander Wang and Viktor and Rolf. The craftsmanship, design, and aesthetic is unremarkable and has already stolen the show. The adorable and enchanting set design was by Immortals set decorator, Jille Azis.  My only complaint is that they should have made Julia Roberts look more evil or scary, like they made Charlize Theron in the other Snow White movie (Snow White and The Huntsman with Kristin Stewart, Chris Hemsworth).

#sidenote: Costume designer Eiko Ishioka has worked with Tarsem on The Cell, The Fall, and the upcomming Immortals.

#sidenote2: There are two new fairy tale-ish shows coming out this week as well.  Once Upon A Time Starts (featuring Ginifer Goodwin as Snow White) tomorrow on NBC and Grimms starts Friday the 28th on ABC.

Deets: The new exhibit opened at the MOCA Pacific Design Center annex where the museum held the Black Swan x Rodarte collection last year during Oscar season.

This show has 2 levels (we highly recommend the elevator if the stairs are crowded — no one seems to know it’s in use) – upstairs are three giant slideshows of Hedi’s work on a cube in the center of the room – the first level is several enlarged portraits framed in construction planks of wood, interwoven with mirrors.

In case you don’t know – Hedi re-invented men’s fashion – after working for YSL, he joined Dior and popularized a sleeker fitting look following the baggy trends in menswear of the 90s – Since leaving fashion design, he shoots for Vogue, V, LA Times and more – HS was recently a hot topic because of a portrait he took of full grown Francis Bean Cobain (pictured below). He has also shot lots of models, celebs and L.A. people such as LiLo, Courtney Love, Kate Moss, Jack Huston, Max Irons, Henry Hopper, etc.

Spotted at the opening: Kirsten Dunst, Dasha Zhukova, PC Valmorbda, DJ Myles Hendrik, Moca’s Jeffrey Deitch, Gus Van Sant, Flaunt’s Luis Barajas, Lydia Hearst, and more with Stefanie Keenan snapping them all. Several of MOCA’s bigger donors were there on a part of weekend excursion which included a dinner at Blum and Poe tonight, brunch at Jeffrey Deitch house this weekend and of course tickets to the MOCA gala tomorrow eve …

Lana looks like like Effie from UK Skins #justsaying

I came across Lana Del Rey on HYPE Machine tonight and found the situation she has herself in to be a very interesting one … according to the  UK Telegraph she only has two songs yet 1.5 million hits on YouTube and a controversial former history as a failed artist called Lizzy Grant which she admittedly re-habed into internet sensation “Lana Del Rey” with the help of a professional team. 

I think this whole situation is very cool and obvi more intriguing, which will propel her into fame-dome quicker.  Whatever the story, I love her sound and will def be sticking around to see what else she throws at us. Read the whole story and see her hyped-about-video below …

Lana Del Rey is a name you’re going to hear a lot of over the next few months. She’s the internet sensation whose debut song Video Games is already the ‘Single Of The Year’ pre-release, having attracted almost a million and a half page views on YouTube. Her first UK show (in November) sold out in about 30 seconds and she makes the buzz over Nikki Minaj seem like a shrew’s fart. Her lips alone have a CEO (probably). This, my friends, is Lanageddon.

Interest in the artist – who has only two songs to her (current) name – is propelled by the charge against her: that she is a big fat phoney. Let me explain. The 24-year-old New Yorker is actually called Lizzy Grant – she admits the name Lana Del Rey was made up by “a series of managers and lawyers”. She tried to make it as a mainstream artist in 2009, releasing a three-track EP. This failed, so she went away, wrote some more songs and returned transformed. Bigger hair, bigger eyes, bigger lips, bigger tunes.

She calls her shtick “Lolita in the hood” or “the gangster Nancy Sinatra”. The video for Video Games is certainly heavy with nostalgia. It’s filmed like a home movie with stills from old films, classic motorbikes, skateboards and 50s fashion. Despite looking like a duck doped up on Quaaludes, Del Rey is very beautiful and it’s a gorgeous video. But it hasn’t stopped people ripping her apart.

Music blogs hiss and froth about her “authenticity”. There are rumours she is a puppet controlled by a group of wealthy, clever producers. That her father is a multi-squillionaire although she claims she lived on a trailer park. There’s mention of cosmetic surgery. The vanishing of her old music online in place of the new has led writers to call her the “Frankenstein of Indie”.

Take the top eleven favourite tracks she chose for The Beat Juice. Each one seems to be a vehicle for the Del Rey narrative. She chose the theme tunes to The Godfather and American Beauty. And Lil Wayne’s Lollipop. Lil Wayne’s Lollipop. Either they were picked out by record executives chuckling into their blue M&Ms, or Del Rey has unusually bad taste in music.

The problem with Del Rey is this: her song is actually bloody good. Music bloggers agree almost unanimously: the voice, lyrics, arrangements, melody – it’s all there. Video Games is an earworm which will surely top both mainstream charts and trendy bloggers’ top tens this year. This leaves us in a conundrum. Becoming a fan of an artist is like embarking on a relationship. We commit to them, they comfort and support us. We open our wallets, they’re there for the dancing and the tears. We overlook their bad habits or dodgy political views because we want to grow old with them. But Lana Del Rey in her current incarnation would be the girl your mother warns you about. We simply don’t know how much of her is real or not and we can’t put our trust in her if she’s just a hologram concealing a load of greedy, soulless record executives in suits.

But is there anything so wrong with pop stars self-embellishing? Bob Dylan created his own back story after all. Pop doesn’t do ‘keeping it real’. It never has. It never will. The lives of artists don’t detract from the quality of their art. We don’t even really know who wrote Shakespeare’s plays, but it doesn’t lessen our enjoyment of them. David Bowie dressed up as all sorts of lunatic and we adored him for it.

All we know for sure is this: the song is good, and she’s more than just a pretty face.

(I understand that this may sound weird coming from me BUT I have been a huge boxing fan for YEARS now…so get used to it )

I’ve said it for years: I dislike Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather Jr… I am always rooting for whomever is his opponent. I now feel a bit vindicated (because everyone has always loved him but just for his fighting) that everyone can see him for the disgusting person he is.  I was appalled a few years back (On HBO 24-7) when I saw how he treated his family and how they live impoverished lives while he makes 25 mil + per fight and let’s NOT discuss endorsements and other monetary profits.

We get it, he is an amazing fighter (undefeated in 42 fights), but he is also a cocky, greedy, rude, violent idiot, so for me it gets cross cancelled.  I don’t need him yelling, making faces, insulting everyone in his path, and making a fool of himself during interviews to let me know how he is gods gift and the best boxer to ever grace this earth!

If you are wining a fight and are the supposed “champion” of the world, you do not need to stoop to low levels to win #justsaying.

Whatever – this is actually kind of good for Victor Ortiz because there will be a lot of press on this evening and he will become a much bigger name based off what has transpired… He will also look like the nice guy (which he is) who was cheated out of a match. This also looks kind of good for him because he did not really lose as there was only 4 rounds.  Victor has come out of this much better than he went in.

My only happiness out of this will come from seeing Pacman K I C K his ass, which BTW is and has been the only fair fight for awhile.

So not only did FMM earn 25 million dollars and unfairly win the fight, but he also almost fought an 80 year old man – that man being legend, Larry Merchant #notagoodlook!

Karma will be a bitch, for Floyd Mayweather and for Victor’s parents who abandoned their two sons and left them in dire poverty.  Victor rose to the occasion and found a way to pay for his brother Danny’s high school and college tuition, all while leaving foster care and starting a life for himself.
