Introducing: BEAUTY BENDER

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Today some friends of the Truffle are launching a new site “Beauty Bender” – specifically designed to deliver Monday and Thursday email newsletters full of expert tips, new products and a monthly photo shoot.

Co-founders Alexis Johnson and Kathryn Romeyn draw upon their editorial backgrounds (Alexis worked at Angeleno and Kathryn is the current deputy editor of L.A. Confidential) to approach beauty with the same journalistic intention they’ve brought to topics such as entertainment, lifestyle and current events. Their monthly photo shoots feature editorialized beauty ideas. This month’s is all about metallics – Next month Alexis and Kathryn will turn to ’12 beauty resolutions’ for 2012. Click to Continue Reading

Friday Restaurant Suggestion: Caulfield’s Beverly Hills

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

The best thing about going in to Caulfield’s is Laurie (the owner) chases you out with caramel at the end of your meal. Made in house, the caramel is always kept in a basket at the front entrance underneath a chalkboard which changes daily for specials. The last time I was in for lunch, Lauri came all the way out to the valet to bring me some, as the basket had run dry.

We decided we want to start doing restaurant dinner suggestions on The Daily Truffle and we are starting with Caulfield’s for many reasons. First off, Click to Continue Reading

Meet the FW 2011 ‘it’ shoe: Miu Miu Glitter bootie

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

Ok, we have all seen this shoe by now (which originally made it’s debut during SS 2011 fashion week in New York this past September on at least 20 prominent editors, celebrities and it girls) and we don’t want to be the bearer of bad old news but this shoe is now on sale and because it is a little … specific shall we say, we thought it would be good 411 to know. This Miu Miu Glitter and suede peep-toe ankle boot was $890 and is now $623. If you need a gift for a 16 – 45 year old woman, any daughter, girlfriend or hip wife would appreciate this for Christmas or one of the various other holidays. Also not a bad gift to get yourself and of course you barely need to wrap it because it’s already sooooo sparkley. 10 more pics and shots of ladies who’ve worn this shoe … Click to Continue Reading

Magda Berliner Lace Collection Trunk Show — Art Basel Miami

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

While you are at Art Basel this week, might we suggest taking a break from partying with Pharrell to shop the Lace Collection from LA native Magda Berliner who is having a trunk show at Curve in Miami Dec 2 – 3.

The Lace Collection “MLB” is made up of signature, one-of-a-kind, hand assembled from vintage, lace dresses. In-the-know fashion devotees, such as MK and Ashley Olsen, and the Traina sisters have long been fans of Berliner’s one-of-a-kind, hand assembled from vintage, lace frocks, tops and skirts. A selection of styles will be on hand at Curve in Art Basel this weekend for orders and purchase; styles are reproduced in silhouette — yet components of garment are unique to that piece.

Delivery!! Style Firm Yoga Pants!

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

A few of our friends recently started this line of fat-proof yoga pants — not that we need it, but we can appreciate a good idea when we see one. The ladies behind the brand are the same girls who’ve been working the backstage fashion show circuit in L.A. for the past decade got their training at Macy’s in-house events department. These two have seen models making multiple changes behind the scenes and therefore can be considered experts when it comes to knowing what makes a good looking rear. Click to Continue Reading

Trek Nation to premiere on Science Network: November 30th, 2011.

Gene Roddenberry, The Creator of Star Trek, also known as “The Great Bird of the Galaxy” passed away in 1991. His Son Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, Jr. was only 17 years old.

Trek Nation, is a feature-length film documenting Rod’s trek across America to understand who his father was through the touchstones Gene left behind: His Friends, His Family, His Work, and His Influence. Including surprising, revelatory conversations with actors, fans, NASA personnel, entertainment-industry leaders and other prominent figures, Trek Nation is a film that explores one of life’s most universal stories – the discovery of a parent.

Rod, who is a longtime friend of the Truffle added a note to his friends on Facebook this morning thanking everyone for their support and in true Rod fashion, added credits and gratitude to teammates from his documentary project: Click to Continue Reading

#newLA: The Art of Shaving, Now Open in Beverly Hills [SLIDESHOW]

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

There are a couple things to know about the new Art of Shaving that just opened on Brighton Way — half a block from Rodeo Drive. It’s huge, it’s pretty, and they have cappuccino. This mens salon, though women are welcome, opened last Wednesday and will have their official opening party next week hosted by George Kotsiopoulos. 8 barber chair stations offer hot shaves and hair cuts to men. We happened to notice a certain special product that we wanted to mention and put out there — a sulfate-free (suds-free for the rookie) mens facial cleanser. It’s rare enough to find these for women so seeing one for a man was quite impressive! In fact, we’ve added it to our xmas rec list.

If Pockets Talked x Milk Boutique on 3rd — Month long vintage pop up — Buy and Sell

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

For those of us staying in town this Thanksgiving weekend, might we suggest spending your Black Friday on 3rd Street perusing the new deliveries to Milk boutique? A vintage pop-up inside the shop is bringing you some new vêtements to choose from via Masha Gordon’s re-sell site If Pockets Talked …

It was quite the L.A. alumni scene at the launch party for this collaboration between Masha and Milk owners Bari Milken Bernstein and Marni Flans. All three girls are L.A. natives and as natives like to represent, we saw support from all their alma maters and a few others — Cossroads, Beverly, Brentwood, Buckley and HW – along with fashion publicists, bloggers, designers, DJs, and husbands of the ladies. Versace for HM pre-sale shopping event in Beverly Hills

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

The new Versace for H&M collection doesn’t officially go on sale until 8am tomorrow, November 19th, 2011 — but we with friend of the Truffle Christine Chiu to Versace’s private pre-sale in L.A. to a very tiny small crowd of 25 who were given a 3 item max (all shoppers will be allowed one item each in the Versace store tomorrow – Saturday – as well). There are legit lines of H&M collab die-hards camping on Sunset right now waiting for the WeHo store to open in the morning (not surprising considering this was the norm during last year’s Lanvin for H&M spectacular). The party tonight was put on by Versace for stylists who regularly pull for their clients or on-screen projects.

There was a 25 person guest list (we actually saw it and it was literally just over a page with a single column of 25 names — like the shortest guest list on the planet). That didn’t stop Versace from having a full bar and DJ on the balcony upstairs where they tucked about 100 pieces from the collection next to menswear. Click to Continue Reading

Highly Anticipated Trailer Follows Up Broadcast Debut On Good Morning America With Online Debut On iTunes Movie Trailers

SANTA MONICA, CA (November 14, 2011) – The full trailer for the highly anticipated upcoming film THE HUNGER GAMES, which will be released by Lionsgate on March 23, 2012, debuted today. Following its national broadcast premiere on ABC’s Good Morning America in which the trailer was introduced by Josh Hutcherson, it was made available worldwide on iTunes Movie Trailers (www.itunes.com/trailers). The trailer can be viewed here.

In an attempt to preserve the anticipation and mystery that fans are relishing, the trailer only shows footage from the first half of the film, chronicling events leading up to but not including the Games themselves. After giving fans their first look at all of the book’s beloved characters brought to life, giving viewers who haven’t read the book vital information about the world of Panem, the trailer ends with an electrifying cliffhanger right as Katniss enters the arena.

2011 Cinema Italian Style in Los Angeles

FacebookTwitterTumblrShare

The road to the home of Martha De Laurentiis is a lot like Europe’s Upper Corniche. While Embassy cars from the Italian Consulate and professional drivers in tinted town cars whizzed along — we were amused by the many others pulled over along the route to check their GPS and call their assistants. But everyone had the same goal – to get to the Cinema Italian Style kick off brunch and press conference by noon.

Cinema Italian Style (pronounced “Chin-e-ma” by the Italians) is a six-day festival in Los Angeles where a selection of Italian films are screened at the Egyptian and Aero Theaters (November 10-15). The annual celebration of Italian cinema is always dedicated to a particular outstanding Italian in film and this year they chose to honor the late film producer Dino De Laurentiis, who died exactly one year ago from the opening day of CIS 2011, at the age of 91. Truffle Picks: Autumn / Winter 2011 Gloves

The Daily Truffle | Fall Winter GLOVES 2011

In a nutshell, we ♥ gloves. For the most part, any gloves will do but we do have our faves. Sadly, there was an absence of gloves on the fall/winter 2011 runways with the exception of Lanvin, who featured gloves in nearly all their looks (pictured above). We also need to give a very special hats off to Valentino without whom we would have about half as many gloves to choose from … Keep reading to see individual shots and prices … xoxo
