In the aftermath of one of the most devastating natural disasters to hit New York City, Hurricane Sandy, the city’s nightlife and social scene was highly impacted. As the entire downtown region of NYC suffered without power from Sunday to late last week, shutting down nearly every restaurant, bar and nightclub throughout the week forcing Halloween parties and events to cancel, postpone or move to various pop-up locations further uptown.
Several bars came uptown erected last minute pop-ups anywhere they could find space for a bar. Fashion journalist Jim Shi tweeted: “So apparently The Carlyle has become the Uptown Boom Boom Room? Like, woah.”
Heidi Klum’s Annual Halloween Bash on Wednesday October 31st at the EMM Group’s newest venture, Finale was also postponed and perhaps will be rescheduled for Christmastime as Heidi exclaimed on Twitter: “Canceling my Halloween Party…postponing to a haunted Christmas.”
Cipriani’s scrambled to move their Halloween party from their downtown location to their unaffected 42nd street restaurant.
The Annual Whitney Studio Party, scheduled for Tuesday October 30th at Pier 57 was postponed and will be rescheduled in the near future.
The Apollo Circle Benefit at the Metropolitan Museum should be fine, others that are downtown may have to change venues in the aftermath ie. Next week’s New York Taste Event, slated for Monday November 5th, was cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
The John Barrett Salon, located on the penthouse floor of Bergdorf Goodman, offered reduced-rate wash and blow-drys to those without water and power over the weekend while others took to Equinox. Only in New York.
