The 30th Olympic Games begin today in London with an opening ceremony (televised live tonight at 7:30 PST on NBC) to launch the 16 days of competition. Special events have already been under way with an opening Gala for the US Olympics Committee last night with a pre-reception at Clarence House (former home of Will & Harry), and a welcoming gala this past Monday at the Royal Opera House.
Expected special guests, and VIPs in town: The Queen, Will & Kate, Prince Harry, British director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, and director of the Olympics, Michele Obama (the leader of the US delegation), Mitt Romney, Nick Clegg, Chancellor George Osborne, Labour leader Ed Miliband, former Prime Minister Tony Blair, London’s mayor Boris Johnson (who hosted an opening gala for the International Olympics Committee at the Royal Opera House this past Monday), Muhammad Ali, Vera Wang, Donna Karan, Prince Albert of Monaco and Charlene Wittstock, Lauren Bush & David Lauren, Daisy Lowe, Duran Duran, Paul McCartney, etc.
