President Obama $38,000 fundraiser dinner at the Bell’s in Holmby Hills, $250 Foo Fighters concert in the backyard

Guests were instructed via email to arrive between 3pm and 4:3pm at 8030 Century Park West in Century City to board shuttles that would take them to the house of Colleen and Bradley Bell (who brought you soaps such as the Bold and the Beautiful, and his parents who brought you the Young and the Restless). The email also reminded guests to bring their driver’s licenses or other ID, and to dress warmly as the fundraiser was held outdoors and there was a high chance of rain and that umbrellas would not be permitted as they pose a security risk.

After parking guests met on the ground floor where they were queue up to get through a metal detector and a waved down with a handheld wand. Volunteers with click boards checked names of their lists and verified IDs off driver’s licenses and gave out green (GA) or pink wristbands (VIP).

Black tour buses and yellow school buses transported guests (who paid $250 for general admission, $1500 for VIP and $38,000 for dinner) to the Bell’s home at 391 N. Carolwood Drive in Holmby Hills, just North of Sunset Blvd slightly West of Beverly Hills.

Guests queued up again on the street (Carolwood) to walk up the driveway and either queue (yes a 3rd queue) up again for a ‘drinking wristband’ which was white with blue stars, or else make their way to the back lawn of the Bell’s home which had a sound stage set up on one end.

Along one edge of the perimeter of the lawn were two folding tables with red table clothes acting as a cash bar where red and white wine, beer and bottled water were served for $6 each.

5 to 6 security detail (many on their cell phones) lined a perimeter of the lawn that also boarded the Bell’s pool and tennis court.

A hot dog and chero and pretzel stand were set up next to the bar.

A single open-sided tent was set up some distance from the stage where the Foo Fighers would perform.

A VIP area was separated by metal gates about 20 ft from the stage. The VIP area ran the length of the stage and had an open bar near the west side with cheese and crackers.

Spotted in the VIP: Mila Kunis with David Castro and Colleen Bell’s sister Shannon Bradley, Don Cheedle, Jack Black and his wife, Rashida Jones, Ricky Lake, Gelina & Wolfgang Puck, Kevin Parker (HW ’95) manager at Rain Management Group with sister Kim Parker (HW ’98) Communications Director at Brave New Films, businesswoman Amber Cohen (Beverly), Chris Hopkins (HW ’92) who was recently appointed to Obama’s entertainment advisory council for the campaign, and more.

Around 5:30pm, the bar closed.

Rashida Jones came on stage with Jack Black following, each with 3 to 5 minute speech. One of them or both of them mentioned all of the following:

Ended war

Ended don’t ask don’t tell

Ended tortured

Restoring reputation around the world

23 months of job growth

“Just remember no matter what the other side says, Barack Obama kicks major ass.” — Jack Black

Will Ferrell who was listed as a co-host did not speak. ABC news reports he is filming and had to back out as host.

The Foo Fighters performed 4 songs – “Walk,” “Learn to Fly,” “My Hero” and then lead singer Dave Grohl was left alone on stage and said a few words about Obama before playing a solo version of “Everlong”.

Dave Grohl said of Obama — that when he now travels overseas to Japan and Australia for concerts, it’s easier to be an American. Said when he tells people he is an American, people say “Oh yeh? Cool.” Then Grohl remarked “that hasn’t happened for a while”.

After another 30 minutes around 6:30pm Colleen Bell came on stage and spoke about her interest in Obama including an early meeting with the President many years ago.

Said the middle class is still struggling and there are people in the lower class still trying to get into the middle class

Mentioned immigration reform but no specifics on which he way he leans or how he wants to do it

Mentioned forgiven policy and cited that re wants to restore America’s reputation overseas as country that plays by the rules and helps those in need

Still wants to end Afghanistan and bring troops home

Mayor Anthony Villarosa as next Democratic Convention Chair was announced.

He then returned inside the house. A dinner was held inside with attendees George Clooney, Jim Belushi, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and others.

Roads were closed on the route between the Bell’s house and the Beverly Hilton where President Obama is staying.

Proceeds from the event go to the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee authorized by Obama for America and the Democratic National Committee.
