A Look Back at L.A.’s Most Notorious Halloween Parties

You cant live in LA long before you get that 4am phone call from a friend stuck in Paul Allen‘s funicular. The sideways sliding elevator (more commonly seen in Europe) connects his main house to his recording studio down the hill where he hosts parties, including those on Halloween. The recording studio doubles as a party space where he jams with famous musician friends and party guests.

While the hottest ticket in town just may be trick or treating in the private enclave of Malibu Colony, and a stop by the witches house in Beverly Hills is an absolute must, major kudos go out to the party hosts who have helped make Halloween a blast in L.A. including Paul Allen, Jacqui Getty, Shane BlackHugh Hefner and LA natives Kate Hudson (Crossroads), Paris Hilton (Buckley), Justin Murdock (Harvard-Westlake) who has hosted his at the Regency Club in his father’s Westwood building Murdock Plaza, and Adam Levine (Brentwood) from Maroon 5.

Hugh Hefner is always the most interesting just because it is … you are either invited, dying to go or annoyed because you are his ritzy neighbor (Ronald and his wife Nancy use to live near here along with the Spellings and more) and cannot deal with the galopy cars parking up and down Beverly Glen who decide to skip the proper check in which is located in a parking lot a half a block south of Wilshire. Generally when a Holmby Hills house is having a party the cars on the street look like Bruce Meyer‘s garage but when Hef throws a party it’s beat-up brown Nissan, ancient 1980 BMW just so you can technically drive a BMW, cars with beds in the back, etc.

Most of the girls invited to Hef’s send their pics in and this gross lady oks you and sends you an invite – ironic! Even funnier, we’ve heard this was the practice back in the 70s too! Guess if it ain’t broke … !

But we hear Hugh Hefner is not even hosting his sought-after bash this year, featured on Entourage and a favorite for Paris Hilton, possibly because this year Hugh has already bought a hill (Hollywood peak) and reportedly tapped ICM parent company Rizvi Traverse to help him buy-out the rest of Playboy. Instead he has rented out his house for Kandy, the pay-per-party club run by the Karma Foundation, that regularly holds parties at the Playboy Mansion throughout the year.

We’ve also heard Justin Murdock will not hold his annual fete possible due to a bad incident on Page 6 last month … lol. Justin’s dad built Murdock Plaza in Westwood out brick and use to house LA upper crust’s most preferred bank – MetroBank *(when it closed the choice became City National).  If you are from L.A. you have been to the Regency Club at the top of Murdock Plaza for a tea, bridal shower, luncheon – or of course, Justin Murdock’s Halloween party in years past.

Witches House in Beverly Hills

  1. The Witch’s House is one of the Beverly Hills’ unique sights. In my opinion, this house has to be seen to be fully appreciated. Its owner, Michael Libow, a real estate agent, plans to preserve this historic house.
