Angie and Rachel at z Emmy 2010 ... next stop Soho then Trousdale!!
Rachel has been bombed by Mercury retrograde and I haven’t been able to concentrate because my book agent called this morning but we finally got around to reporting on our Emmy’s 2010 trip …
The whole lobby scene at the Emmys is the reason I’ve always gone back year after year. It’s my fav time to run into old favs-from the Letterman writers I worked for in college to the actors like John Krasinski who interned with me at Conan! And everyone back there is aware and trying to ignore the women dressed in 70s prom dresses with far too big of boobies and static faces from plastic surgery. I can never figure out who they are or how they get there (in order to attend the Emmy’s you must either be nominated or be in the Television Academy and be invited to buy a ticket).
I didn’t get to see my favs this year because they stopped serving alcohol at 4pm (either because of too many drunk nominees or fear no one would come in to watch the actual show). The lobby didn’t go party without the kegs tapped. So we were forced to go inside and watch the show – HOWEVER – after seeing Jimmy kill it with the Glee opening act we forgot about the missing booze….almost!
Here is our timeline:
3:45pm – Rachel and I walk through the doors of the theater for her first emmys and my 5th (kudos to Steven Selikoff). We find ourselves bombarded with some pretty interesting dresses and boob jobs …and make a beeline for the bar for bubbly.
3:55 – Rachel points to a sign behind the bar: “Bar closes at 4pm and will reopen at 5:30pm to serve food and non-alcoholic drinks.”
Our jaws drop and we double our order.
4:45 – Seat 420 and 421. We’re pretty high up there.

Our neighbors making out at the Emmys 2010
5:15 – Not as high as the two next to us during commercial break or should we say makeout break.
6:20 – Lobby break. Come on lobby boy – just one sip!!!
6:30 – Ricky Gervais mimics the murmurs heard around the theater regarding no booze. “Who wants a beer?” Psych! He too could only get non-alcoholic.
7:00pm – First set of our boozer buddies blitz and head to Katsuya (at L.A. live) for saki in place of ceremony
8:00 pm – Ceremony ends and we hobble out on our shoes almost Breaking Bad and stumble over Aaron Paul who cheers us with his golden Emmy!
9:30 pm – Where does Angie go when in doubt? Soho House for some vino and food (the AMC party was going on upstairs).
11:30 pm – We fall into Fallon’s after-party across the street from Soho at Trousdale.
12:00 am – The truth of Trousdale: impossible to stay sober …
