Crazy bands banned from private schools in L.A.

A few days ago, I was on the way home from having fro yo with the lovely Nola Singer.  My mom called me to tell me that I had to see these bracelets that my 2 nieces brought over to my house.  My mom said something like, ” These are rubber bracelets that have a shape, like a poodle or L for lakers, but when you put it on it disappears.”  I was expecting something like a slap bracelet ?  Something that had a design on it while it was laying flat and then once it was put on the design disappeared…. I was wrong! When I got home I was sooooo disappointed to see a plastic band, literally.

LA natives ♥ Wild Bands!

My niece’s went on to tell me that this was the new “in” thing at their escuela, The Laurence School but that the entire school won’t be allowed to wear these bracelets come fall, as they have been banned for causing distraction! The same goes for schools attended by Classmates Ella Stiller, Olivia Pacino, and London Hudson (son of Slash).

Monday night, while with Kirsten Kay, Genie Fitzgerald, Laura Scheider, Sophia Phillps, and Sofie Moore at the Chief concert, I randomly looked down at Kirsten’s wrist and exclaimed WHAT ARE YOU WEARING??? <<She had one of these Wild Bands on….IT HAS STARTED TO INFILTRATE>>

CUT to today, June 16th.

1:30 pm – I noticed my niece’s bracelets were still in my house

2:00 pm – I gasped out loud while seeing that these nonsensical bracelets have made front page on Style.Com, because Mary Kate Olsen has been seen wearing them.

It became clear that I must go to the direct source of this madness and find out some answers!

Yes, you should be jealous that your nieces aren't as cute and amazing as mine!

Q&A with my AHHmazing niece’s Alexa (10) and Drew (7)

When did this trend start?

About two months ago

Do boys wear these too?

Yes, everyone has them.  Most people have at least 50-100.

Where do you guys get them mostly? Does it  matter which brand makes them, as I know many do like Wild Bands, Silly Bandz, Crazy Bandz, Zany Bandz, and Rubba Bandz?

Aahs, Justice, Cvs, and Target, but no one really knows Target has them.

Do you guys trade them, like I traded band aids, guitar string bracelets, Beanie Babies, and stickers?

Yes we do, we trade a few for a rare one or just do trades for different ones we like.  The rare ones are poodle, ice cream cone, monkey, apple, and the tie dyed ones.

My personal favorites are obvious… but for those of you who don’t know me, I love the poodle, as I have 3 of them, the Minnie Mouse shaped one, because I have a dog named Minnie Mouse, and I love the heart and the crown ;-) Which are your favs girls?

Ice cream cone or poodle

What other trends have there been at your school this year besides the Japanese erasers, Miss. Sunshine Tees, Webkinz, Club Penguin, Ipod Touch, etc?

Ichat, Smart board, fancy grips for pencils, Smencils (smelly pencils), and cool mechanical pencils.

According to Style.com, designer Reed Krakoff spent all weekend looking for tie dyed Wild Bands for his kids…..

* Hey Reed Krakoff, I have tye dyed Wild Bands… CALL ME ! *
