Trend Reports: Animal Hats & Headdress (pls buy faux)

Darling readers,

Have I missed something? What’s with this animal headdress trend?
Upon first glance of people wearing something animal related on their head at Coachella, I just thought that they were messing around and having fun + possibly on something. Now, everywhere I look I’m seeing it!
If you see any images that you think would make this post complete, please send !
Naturally, my friend Kelli (right), was ahead of the times.

Los Angeles on Tactical Alert to prepare for tomorrow’s United for Immigration Reform March and Rally

Los Angeles on Tactical Alert to prepare for tomorrow’s United for Immigration Reform March and Rally … Stay off the streets tonight & tom’r unless you are marching! Could be trouble brewing for anti-protest rioters and white supremacist groups who’ve already been rioting this month in LA …

Jerry Springer Interviews on Rodeo Drive

I snapped Jerry Springer interviewing two dancing men with colorful outfits and matching Birken bags on Rodeo Drive today.

To most people, this would be an oddity … For me, I guess I am sort of used to seeing things that are out of the ordinary in BH. Let’s not forget the man who was tightrope walking across Burton Way a few weeks ago!

On the way home from a meeting, I also happend to see my favorite Polish woman who is always at Rite Aid or Whole Foods, blowing air kisses to everyone and waves as she prances around in her spandex American Flag themed outfit. “VAT’S YOUR HERITAGE” she always asks followed by “OOOOOO, YOU CUTE!”.  Al Roker also happened to be jogging near my elementary school, Hawthorne.

L.A.’s Newest Barber

via Michael Williams’ blog “A Contnuouys Lean”

When I was in L.A. a few weeks ago I stopped by to see the gents from Baxer of California at their then unfinished barber shop on LaCienega. Well today the veil has been lifted, and the new spot dubbed Baxter Finley, Barber & Shop, looks even better than I had anticipated. It is opening officially tomorrow, if you want to stop in for L.A.’s newest (and possibly best?) wet shave.

I can see “clearly” now: Prada’s 2010 spring/summer show features clear plastic heels, bags and shades!

Fantastic Plastic? Miuccia Prada wanted her collection for Spring Summer 2010 to reflect a girl who would go from work to the beach. Overall, I enjoyed this collection because most pieces seemed very wearable and the silhouettes felt fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed the colors selected for this seasons designs because they were not your average spring slash summer colors. The colors chosen reminded me of the palette that Marni usually sticks to. I did not like the skirts or dresses at the end of the show with the dangling crystals. Maybe if they had been mixed into the show differently I would have liked them better.

This post is however not about the clothes, it is about the re- occurring theme of plastic, vinyl, and crystal accessories. What caught my attention about the accessories of this collection, was the repetition and cohesiveness of the designs. The shoes, sunglasses, and purses all fit together beautifully… Where there was a green pair of sunglasses, there was a crystal shoe with green accents waiting. Personally, I would never use a plastic purse of any style, unless MAYBE going to the beach. (I do not need the world to see what I am carrying around. My earliest memories of this style purse is from the workers on breaks outside Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdales. It is a rule for them that they must use purses where one can see all of the contents of the bag so one is no easily able to steal.) For runway use, I thought the purses were very cute and tied the whole look together of hip business gal goes to the beach. The only shoes that I really disliked were the half grandma half stripper clear shoes with the dangling crystals…I prefer to keep the chandelier pieces attached to the chandelier in the dining room ! Aesthetically, I thought it looked way tacky that you could see the velcro strips on each shoe, especially if you are going to be paying a hefty fee.

Chanel did a line very close to this a few seasons ago including all styles of handbags, shoes, jewelry, and sunglasses.

Clarification & Attention Please: The Hollywood sign was never in danger – Hugh Hefner DID NOT save it

Everyone needs to relax and STOP mis-quoting the facts.

ANYONE who actually reads the campaign to save Cahuenga Peak will see that AT NO TIME does anyone ever say the Hollywood Sign is in ANY DANGER whatsoever of being built over or being destroyed.

Tom Hanks, Steven Speilberg and Hugh Hefner rasied and put in their own money to BUY the land which is a good investment at the very least and a preservation of a natural habitat at the very best.

The HOLLYWOOD SIGN is protected by about 1,000 laws designed to preserve historic monuments and other things that fall into catergories near that.

INCORRECT headlines:

  • “Hefner’s $900000 ensures protection for Hollywood sign”
  • “Hollywood Sign Safe, Thanks To Hef”

CORRECT headline:

  • “Donations spare Cahuenga Peak from developers”
  • “Hef saves Cahuenga Peak.”

The SAVE THE PEAK website says very clearly it is the AREA WEST OF THE SIGN that is up for sale – NOT UNDER THE SIGN! PLEASE OBSERVE THE BORDERS BELOW so you do not sound as dumb as ten news channels and 15 magazines did today.

SAVE THE PEAK suggests that a potential housing development on the same skyline as the Hollywood sign would be an eye-sore and interrupt the view of the sign. It’s dumb and mis-leading and they shouldn’t have done it but they obviously didn’t think the truth was enough. The truth is that the ONLY CONCERN was for the 35 species who live on the peak who would be displaced by a housing development and the eco-system in this part of the Santa Monica mountain would be destroyed. NOW AS AN FYI to that. You can’t just build something because you stuff checks in city officials pockets. It would be nearly impossible for ANYONE to develop that peak and it’s just completely misleading to think it would ever be a serious threat. You have to get so many building codes to do these things and the issue of preserving the eco-system would be an instant NO GO! Believe it or not we actually do care about the future of our town and we do have laws for these sorts of things.

Don’t even get me started on the residents. That’s another issue. You have to get all the residents on board for any area that would be affected even from transporting materials. Ever heard of Robinson May? Its the old department store that even a relative to the Robinsons couldn’t get converted into condos and a mall. That land has changed hands three times in 5 years and NO ONE can get the residents on board.

The notion of the demolition of Cahuenga Peak is so far fetched I am just so sick of hearing about it and hearing the misleading campaign. It’s great that it’s been bought but the only real justice are when Steve, Tom and Hugh sanction the land for certain uses. Like the swampy field in Malibu that use to hold the carnival fair – that land was given as a gift to Malibu with a million rules for use (which is now over FYI and that gross hay ball of dust is actually going to serve a purpose now other than a massive divider for PCH and a hill).

I’m annoyed SAVE THE PEAK allowed the misleading campaign to go on and I emailed them a list of questions for a story about bringing the pertinent issues forth and they did not respond. They simply did not give enough credit to us and our city patrons who spends zillions of dollars on museums, hospitals and YES – preserving natural habitats, right here, in LA, all the time. And what a shame to think of the lost dollars they missed from people who may have been interested in helping the 35 species who live on the peak and the Santa Monica mountain eco-system.

As a member of the National Historic Society and as a former scientist and as an LA Native and resident, I find the whole thing really fucking annoying.

The Lipstick Diaries ~ Tom Ford + Lime Crime

Lipstick. Red lipstick.

These are two words that are very close to my heart, as I wear red lipstick every time I leave the house.

Those of you who know me, know that my lips and nails are always red; It’s just a part of me.

I don’t like to wear makeup during the day if I don’t have to and applying a bit of M.A.C. Red always does the trick of making me look like I’m alive and awake.

Because I have blond hair, blue eyes, and am really pale, the red just seems to make all of the colors (Blond, blue, light skin) more saturated and POP!

In general, I just love lipstick and all the different shades and consistencies.

(I don’t really like lip gloss because my hair always gets stuck in it.)

In the past two days I keep seeing new images of new lipsticks that are out, and boyyyy am I excited to get my hands on one or all !

Mac Art Supplies

Speaking of my favorite lipstick…..The genius’ at MAC have come up with a NEW product, MAC Art Supply Lip Stain.

Lets break it down; Arts and crafts + Mac = GENIUS idea

That’s right, you can go out, eat, drink and be marry, followed by snogging a ‘victim on interest’ and this stain will STILL be on.

Tom Ford’s Private Blend Lip Color

Yes, Tom Ford is building his empire, and has added beauty to the roster, which will be available in the U.S. on June 1st.

(Neimans, Saks and Bergdorf will carry)

The images of his new collection, Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Color, are mind blowing as well as the packing which is kinda brilliant….” So fresh and so cleannn”.

This collection features 12 lipsticks in all different shades of nude, dramatic, and bold colors.

The only issue with these works of art, is that one lipstick will cost you 45$; The Cleu de Peu of lipsticks !

“I took the most universally flattering colors that a woman can wear, and then I reimagined them in a modern and authoritative way,” – Tom Ford to WWD

Lime Crime’s Future Candy

So we need to talk about 4 things here:

1. The girl who owns Lime Crime is named Doe Deere, and calls herself the Queen of the Unicorns. 2. The AhhhhMAZING packaging (don’t all girls just love Unicorns?) 3. The colors chosen, and 4. The pigments.

Wow, a girl after my own heart.  Doe Deere, makeup artist and blogger, wasn’t able to find makeup bright enough for her, so she set out to make her own line of criminally intense and fantastic makeup.  Her line is like crack to me; I need more!

Doe- a deer, a female deer
Ray- a drop of golden sun
Me- a name i call myself
Far- a long long way to run
Sew- a needle pulling thread
La- a note to follow so
Tea- a drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to do oh oh oh

Sorry, I couldn’t contain myself.

I want to have a tea party with her and invite Lisa Frank to come with all of her illustrated unicorns from my childhood.

So this is pretty much the cutest lipstick packaging ever… One should just buy this lipstick just for the packaging!

The image above MAKES me want to wear blue, purple, and black lipstick.  Out of all the colors possible, I think these are the best choice because the opaque/matte-ness and the pigment is shocking and intensely gorg…I want them all !

Pigment is very important in makeup, especially in eye shadows and lipsticks.  One can tell just by looking that these lipsticks are very high quality and highly pigmented. (Looks like a fresh coat of paint!)

The worst is looking at pretty colored lipsticks, only to find out thats its nothing like the color they promised. These Candy Future lipsticks are screaming pigment, which we love.
