For those of you who are not familiar with the discreet atlieir on the best part of Melrose Avenue, tucked a stone’s throw East of Balenciaga and Alberta Ferretti, a trip to Coco de Mer is more akin to going to Savile Row for a bespoke hunting suit rather than a trip to the Pleasure Chest.
In honor of Tim Burton’s new movie Alice in Wonderland – Coco de Mer has thoroughly decked the store with an Alice in Wonderland mad hatter “tease” party.
Mannequins in La Perla bras and Stella McCartney panties, lounge in the store-front windows with their high heels kicked into stacks of over-sized tea cups. White tights cover tipped-upside-down plastique legs with black Mary Janes on one end and baby-blue aprons and white tulle tutus on the other. Bunnies, green grass, and Easter eggs complete the table displays.
Coco de Mer’s ever-discrete philosophy is known well through-out the world. The dressing rooms are confessionals that were bought at auction and flown in from Europe where they were once housed in beautiful chapels and cathedrals. The doubled sided changing rooms leave the lady in privacy but allow her man to wait next door with a lock-from-her-side window so he can peak and peruse at her discretion. The men’s side is equipped with films, a TV and hand-crafted, old-fashion typewriter, should he decide to take a note!
Despite their no camera/no press policy to help protect the privacy of their rather luminous L.A.clientele, they do allow The Daily Truffle in anytime to sneak a few shots for our readers. While some find it offensive, others are happy to be told of this sophisticated and well-done parlor.
The store is named for a very rare and quite extraordinary seed found in only two islands in world, both in the Seychelles. The coco de mer seed is the largest seed in the world, weighing up to 40 pounds, and has a distinct and uncanny resemblance to the female form.
Coco de Mer opts to support local artisans and since Los Angeles is one of the wealthiest cities in the world, the store ends up packed with home grown fragrances, candles and more sexy items from some of The Daily Truffle’s most favorite luminous locals. The store is also able to pull stock from their London location to bring us lingerie from some of their English society designers like Stella McCartney’s lingerie.

Coco de Mer is giving all The Daily Truffle readers 10% off when they shop in the store on all non-sale items ~ mention The Daily Truffle when you are there!
And for one lucky shopper they will gift a complementary JimmyJane white rabbit (pictured below) in honor of the festive Alice in Wonderland season!
