The only thing I needed to know about this movie is that Big and Carrie are still together. The relationships Carrie maintains with Big on the show, and frankly, the relationships maintained by all the women, are downright pathetic, uninspiring to me, and I think, a really bad example for women to set who are suppose to be the “ideal,” sucessful beautiful women, “making it” in NY. I could pick more stylish, sucessful women who are “making it” in Manhattan a lot better than any of them, just among my own friends. Carrie’s obsession with Big, AT her age, is something no one needs to see, and not something to be celebrated, understood, explained, empathized with, considered, or anything really. He is emotionally abusive, clearly unavailable, selfish and shallow. The only girl who will ever survive in a relationship with him is someone who really truly benefits from something he can offer them, ie. money, travel, connections, etc. Carrie doesn’t need any of these things. And that is why this relationship does not work. A guy like Big simply wants someone who will be beautiful sexy and young forever, and that is really all her requires in a woman. His feelings for Carrie are nice, it’s great that he does have that spark of an ability to love more fully but it’s not enough to support a real long term relationship and definitely not “til death do we part”.
As far as Big being irresistible and romantic goes … I understand and see that [sorta] but anyone who is use to being around men with real breeeding, manner, class, chiverly, what have you, would see right through Big in a second. It’s a shame too because Carrie has everything a girl could want, she has been given more than most and has a great capacity for friendship and love. The only thing that would make me want to see this movie or any other sequel is when she meets a guy that is really right for her and is really deserving and she forgets all about Big, who will only continue to make mistakes, break her heart and cheat on her (*if not in this sequel, he will in the next one), until she ultimately has no choice but to leave. Women out there! Do not hope for a man like Big to ever be any different. Choose your battles wisely. Ok I’m off to Spago! Meeting my sister, photographer Yvette Roman, and my dad for Christmas daughters lunch! Will post pictures of pretty Spago lights!
