The late DJ AM had been designing a dunk for Nike
In addition to AM’s sneaker auction on Ebay – you can also see what the L.A. Native would have designed himself as the perfect shoe. The much loved native had been designing a DUNK for NIKE that is now out for sale from Kasina. The Nike Dunk High Premium Quickstrike “DJ AM” comes in a black/red colorway with reflective 3M accents. The heel features a perforation that can be removed to reveal reflective 3M. The tongue of the sneaker is decorated with a DJ AM logo tag.

Me & Naomi Grossman at Lilla Zuckerman's wedding
L.A. Natives in the know are constantly bumping into to Youtube sensation and comedian Naomi Grossman. Made famous from her Madonna and Amy Winehouse impersonations, skits about toucy-feely yoga teachers and 30-something women “settle-ing” down, Naomi has been doing an under the radar comedy routine called “Carnival Knowledge” at the The Lex Theatre in Hollywood. “Carnival Knowledge” has been recommended by L.A. Weekly and extended for the third time; 2 more showings are promising free cotton candy – could life get any better?! L.A. Weekly says “GO!” Continue reading

Francis Fisher with daughter Francesca Eastwood, Autumn Whitaker, and Lady Kitty Spencer
Darling debs debut in designer duds … L.A. Natives Francesca Eastwood & Autumn Whitaker (daughters of Clint Eastwood and Forrest Whitaker) attend the Crillon Debutante Ball in Paris
I thought a lot this week slash weekend…. Thoughts included what I was happy and thankful for, what food I would be devouring on Thanksgiving, family and friends, AND The annual Crillon Debutante Ball.
Debutante comes from the french word, “debuter”, which means to lead off.
Ever since I watched Cinderella or any princess slash ball themed movie, I had always wanted to go to a ball…..(many of them, but only to wear ball gowns). Unfortunately, these days, one of the only places you will see people this dressed up is at this special event. I remember when I was little, that going to see an opera, play, or musical, was the time to get dressed up; Cut to years later and people are dressed in sweats or jeans and an ugly sweater to go see an opera at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion. (Some people just disgust me

W Hotel Los Angeles Westwood has opened “Chill at the W”, a synthetic ice skating rink over their pool. Order S’mores Tart With Star Anise Honey and Chocolate Sauce, drink spiced lattes or adult hot chocolates. There is no admission and no advance reservations are required. Skate rentals are $10 per person, per hour. Opens Sun. Mon.-Fri., 3-10 p.m.; Sat. & Sun., 10 a.m.-10 p.m. November 13, 2009 through January 24, 2010. We also here the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego and the Trianon Palace Versailles in Paris have also erected a skate rink for the holidays! YAY!
Disclaimer – I had fun with my little sister but this is not real ice and it’s kinda disappointing. Props to the hotel for even trying this and I am sure REAL ice would not be economical and it’s a really great community thing to do but it’s just not that great. I would definitely not bring children or go with the excitement and expectation of actually ice skating. When it gets a little colder – I think it’s a cool place to go have a drink but it’s not the wintery wonderland day of icy, chilly mitten weather and running into bungalows to heat up with coco that we were expecting – the “ice” is some wierd cardboard sheet that sucks. It looked like skating on hard plastic. That said, the hotel is beautiful and we got great photos and had a good convo over macchiatos. The food menu looked spectacular as well – I photoed it below.

Heartschallenger truck in NY - photo from New York Times
This weekend – look out of the Hearts Challenger ice creme truck touring around Hollywood for a collaboration with the artist Parra and the Los Feliz store Stones Throw. Find them on Twitter or Facebook. Heartschallenger trucks are all the rage in New York and many store such as Topshop have been using them as a temporary mobile pop-up store that comes to you. Before the opening of Topshop Soho last April, they sent out Heartschallenger vans driving around New York giving out free goody-bags! The trucks can carry a GPS tracker to add to your website or in the case of this weekend, Twitter page, so you can know their exact locations and times! They are also rent for parties and other branding and marketing efforts. Genius! The truck comes stocked with toys, candy, jewelry, glitter guns and ice cream, along with whatever you decide to sell on your rental day. The Hollywood collaboration this weekend features the drawings of Parra, a famous underground Dutch graphic artist and typographer, the Los Feliz store Ston’e Throw. Follow the movement on Stones Throw twitter account to see where the truck will be at. Continue reading
