Vanity Fair Portraits now al LACMA

Making it’s way through the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh, Vanity Fair portraits exhibition has opened at LACMA here in Los Angeles, and opens with a big semi-unusual party for the museum which is historically conservation and shies away from flamboyance and celebrity.

Delivery! Ona Spa New Products!‏

For years, Ona has been a premiere medical spa destination in Los Angeles and a celebrity favorite.  Known for their customized services and results-oriented treatments that combine up-to-the-minute technologies with centuries-old health and wellness traditions to relax your spirit, Ona Spa is the place to rejuvenate your body and reveal your most radiant, healthy self.

We got our hands on the Alpha Lipoic Firming Cream (retails for $125) for our Meg’s Make-Up Fabulous Fridays readers. This product takes some effort … the directions call for use every other night after cleansing and toning for two weeks before bed – and then every night. But remember – this is like a spa treatment at home. And if your anything like me – you already use a night creme, but forget to put it on or pass out before you get to it half the time anyway. So it all works out.

Consistent use of this creamy moisturizer does promote firm toned skin, smoother complexion, diminished lines and brown spots – I had a couple friends try it, as my skin in in reserve for a special product I am reviewing for October, and they all agreed, it was worth the effort. The smell is a bit strong – no doubt those Lipoic Alphas hard at work – but you definitely know you are using a serious skin care product – and not some frilly scented placebo. That’s how I like my skin care personally – hard core and clinical.

The owners, dermatologist Dr Stanley Frileck, and husband/wife team Fabienne and Laurent Dufourg, run the Beverly Blvd spa along with the downstairs sister salon; Privé. ‘Laurent D’, as he is called, is a veteran in the LA salon scene! Laurent  D use to be partners with Jose Eber back when ‘Jose Eber’ called ‘Maurice-Jose’ and was across the street from Jimmy Choo. My mother use to bring my in for trims and to learn a little french from Laurent, a native of Biarritz in France, and Maurice, a Parisian, who went on to open the salon at the Beverly Hills hotel years later. Laurent and Jose remained partners until Laurent and his wife broke off to start Prive and Ona. I had lunch with Fabienne at BLD across from the spa years ago and got first hand knowledge of the spa’s success. A not-so-secret gem in the long list of flashy spas in this town – Ona is one of my favorites for it’s more reserved ambience and tendency to cater towards a more discrete set – my kind of place.

All products are available at Ona Spa or online at www.onaspa.com

Bruno Strikes again! BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – The actor best known as “Borat” tricked the Alabama National Guard into allowing him onto a post, giving him a military uniform and briefly letting him train—all, supposedly, for a German TV documentary.

L.A. Natives Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen (Campbell Hall High School ’04) new book: “Influence”

Little mini super-models and business moguls are at it again. Their shy appearance on Oprah was adorable. I probably side with Ashley’s dressing habits more than MK’s but I love to watch the latter in photos and admire “starbucks and a magazine, just rolled out of bed, I am cooler than anybody” look … Also I have never met Ashley so I can’t say but MK is as sweet in person as she is on the page. I also like the answer she, and sister, give when asked why they never smile in pap snaps – they say it’s because they don’t understand why people are taking their photo when they “Aren’t doing anything”. They think it’s weird! Ha. Cute!!
